They told me that there are other complications for a bariatric patient than a "regular" patient.

Yeah I am not sure of the hows and whys. Just super bummed that my friend is so dependent on this and now I can't help. I know there must be something or some other way I am supposed to help.....but....

So I have a friend who is in desperate need of a kidney and is starting the search for a donor. I applied and got a call this morning. They told me that since my surgery was done in July they won't even consider me. That sleeved persons have to wait at least 10-15 years! But all research I have done has stated this is not a barrier to stop a donation.....So bummed!!

Pre vs post op diet...prepare yourself! (This is somewhat of a rant also)

Sorry you are having a hard time. First about the pre op diet. Not everyone is the same. I had a liquid diet for 2 weeks, no food whatsoever! Then 2 weeks clear/full liquids after surgery. I am 3 days shy of a month out. I am on real food, but only fish and eggs. I dont like cottage cheese or yogurt. Is it hard? YES! But this is where we need to retrain ourselves. I have cooked for my family since the pre op diet. At first it bothered me, not now. Yes there is hunger, but i choose to drink my water especially if I ate recently.I haven't had any problems as of yet, which is an amazing blessing, and shows no 2 people are alike. You kind of scare people who come here wanting helpful information. You have to take the good with the bad, as this is not an easy thing for anyone. I am looking long term, not dwelling in right now. If i'm having a hard day I just see what I did this for, to be healthy!! -
Post-op day 2 and regretting
chopsitter replied to Ashley1213's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It gets better! I was so excited before surgery to get it done. First 2 days I told hubby I wasn't excited anymore. I was in so much pain. After that my post op had been great. I wish everyone could feel that way. I'm a couple days shy of one month out, sleeved July 2nd. I feel great! 14 days post op I was white water rafting and hiking! Only pain I have is when I eat just a bite too much. I have lost 21 pound post op and 39 pounds since the first appointment. Look forward, you will be so happy, and healthy! Praying it gets better for you. -
What to do when no one supports ... Your decision
chopsitter replied to Running2theSleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm so sorry you don't have the support you need. I am lucky that my family is 100% behind me. Friends on the other hand I would say half support me. I even got into a little student with one. She is a licensed personal trainer but I'd probably 350 lbs. Has dieted but never successful. Told me I should just increase exercise, no need for surgery. I told her why, that I duet, exercise but even when I'm strick I end up gaining. Dr started it's called a setpoint. Where your body feels it needs to be a certain weight. You can lose 50 lbs but body fights to get back these pounds. She flat out told me, nope that's not true I disagree. Well, I'm sorry sounds right to me and my fight. Other friends since I told them I'm having surgery have distanced themselves from me. Others have been amazing. It's hard. But you will find a ton of support here!!! -
Anna glad your doing good .

You will be able to drink more, just listen to your body. Luckily I haven't had issues getting my water. I do when I have added protein to my brother, that's when I feel full. I'm not having pain really, just discomfort. I was able to sleep in bed for the first time last night, I was sleeping on the recliner. I have a little more discomfort today, maybe because of that. Had a blah day yesterday, but better today. How are you doing?

Good luck to you! My surgeon is real big on discarding just watching calories. Protein lower carb. As he pointed out, a slice of chocolate cake can be 1200 calories, and a steak dinner with veggies can be 1200 calories. Which is better? Will chocolate cake help you lose weight? It makes sense. I never put it in those terms before. It's so frustrating doing everything you can to lose weight and not be successful. That's why i had it done. Dieted and stuck to it only to end up gaining the weight I lost plus more. I started going to my surgeon in March and just got sleeved July 2nd. It just depends on what they recommend and insurance recommends. Hope all goes smoothly for you~

I don't mean to sound gross but....

I finally went today after a week. Kinda figured it was all due to liquid diet. Passed gas ok, so i figured nature would eventually take course. -

I have done really well with hunger issues thru the 2 week liquid diet, and post op so far. Today I am feeling like I want food, but it's not a horrible feeling. Woke up with a migraine, and it's better. Pain from surgery is doing great. I just feel BLAH! I just want to be in bed and sleep it away. Is this normal. I don't really feel depressed, but blah. Losing weight amazingly, following instructions to the t.
