Is anyone freezing?
butterfly56 replied to LisaDomalewski's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is for @@julie Morten saying AZ looks good. Well I am here in Phx and the temp hit 100°F today. I am so looking forward to being cold. But unfortunately that might be next summer. We have 115°F+ weather coming, it is just too early, but I guess it is here to stay till the end of October! Guess I will have a cold winter. -

Impatiently waiting...June sleevers?
butterfly56 replied to Seahawkgirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Does anyone from the Phoenix area know of a local WLS support group? By the way I thought I better introduce myself because I have been lurking in background, too. My name is Kim I am 57 years old, happily married for 39 years, I live in the "Valley of the Sun" which is the greater Phoenix Arizona area. I have 3 children. 30, 27 & 26. The 2 older ones are married but no grandchildren. The youngest still lives at home while still in school. I have been overweight for 25+ years and have thought about WLS for years, but finally started looking into it a couple of months ago. Thanks for sharing this group with me. I think I am going to be a June Sleever. -

How do you decide it is time to have VSG
butterfly56 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
1st time post. Question: I would like to hear comments on how you decided that it was time to have the sleeve surgery. I first started looking into surgery in March 2015. I had my first appointment on March 25, it was the introduction and free information seminar. They were able to tell me that my insurance would cover me if we had 3 weight loss evaluations and march 25 was my first one of three. Then we had to provide them with a 3year history of obesity, which my PCP provided. Then I had to jump thru hoops to get all the testing done and pass them. My 2 of 3 ( April 29) appointment will weigh in, psych evaluation, nutritionist and exercise supporter. Along with blood tests, etc. My 3rd of 3 appointments is on May ,19 and will be my 3rd weight loss evaluation. And my pre-op with the surgeon. Typically they schedule surgery 3 to 4 weeks after this appointment. Am I getting nervous or is this too fast? I really hadn't been thinking about my weight for awhile because 7 years ago I almost died from pneumonia and contracted MRSA while hospitalized. I ended up with a poor immune system. And I was happy because I was alive and that I was getting better. Obviously I was eating a lot while I was happy and gained back 65 pounds. Plus my back problem flared up and the medications that I take for the nerve endings and the pain increased which caused weight gain. Partly because of the 65 lbs I gained. The only way I am comfortable is laying flat on my back in bed. I can't exercise because of my back. This has been a vicious cycle. So my husband and I discussed that maybe it was time to go to a free seminar. But March to June is just 3 months. Maybe I'm scared about my future eating restrictions. All our family activity's revolve around food. It will be so different. I know this is probably the only way for me to loose weight. Which will allow me time to meet my grandchildren, do activities with my grown children, travel with my husband in out retired years. -

It is to bad that your insurance is so naive that they don't realize they will save money when you are lighter and healthier. But congrats on being a "June Sleever" Mine will probably be at the end of the month due to family obligations. Welcome. -

Impatiently waiting...June sleevers?
butterfly56 replied to Seahawkgirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
. I have been reading these posts for 2 weeks and still can't figure out how to start my own topic, so I will use this "June" Sleevers to ask my questions and get the June Sleevers to give me some vision. So... I have been to one appointment which was the introduction, then medical evaluation. At this 1st appointment, March 25, they already knew that I had coverage and told me what my cost would be. They scheduled me for a follow up which will be my psych, nutritionist, blood work, etc and my second weight loss appt. My 3rd visit is my final weight loss visit and my pre-op visit. I am still doing some of the requirements ie; cardiologist, Endoscopy, chest xray, etc. Then my surgery will be 3-4 weeks after. My insurance had to have a 3 year history of obesity, which my PC doctor has now provided. And I qualify for that. I read @@Seahawkgirl that you had 6 months to get to be a June Sleever, but I have only had 1 month so far. I wonder if this is going to fast?Tonight I went out to dinner with my grown kids and husband. I sat there thinking about what I will be doing after the sleeve. Probably 1 lettuce wrap, that would be it. Tonight I drank 4 glasses of iced tea, ate 2 lettuce wraps, a cup if wonton soup, and ate 1/2 of a portion of sweet and sour chicken and rice. What will I do while everyone else eats and we were there 2 hours. Sorry, so many question. But thank you for the help! -

Thank you @kidzmom this is a great idea. I have stopped the carbonated drinks. But every time I am eating and grab my large glass if tea, I seem to choke and really worried about not drinking while eating. We have had this habit all of our lives and I need to read posts like yours that give me great ideas. I have my psych evaluation on April 29. I'm scared about that too. But so happy to hear everyone's comment. I'm So scared that the psychologist will say, you haven't ever stuck to a diet before so why would you stick with it now. Bam, denied. So I will keep reading. My final visit with the surgeon is May 19 and they say approximately 3 weeks for surgery. So I will be a June Sleever. Anyone from the greater Phoenix area? -
