I know he is old news. But 2 things just get to me with his demonetization of the lap band. These things are nothing against the MGB procedure but the surgeon who "promotes" it. 1. This is from a lapbander who wants a revision from their clos.net site Its obvious this person got the band in, maybe got one fill and complained she gained all her pre and post op surgical weight loss and only went in for a fill 2 times over 2 years? Yea, thats a great example of a failed lap band. 2. He has a video of two people that had their bands removed and going into a MGB. Sure these people had problems but half their story didn't make sense. The video is only half the story. If you watch the video or don't, just look at Dr. Rutledge's comments from jsut 3 months ago. He is actually citing LabBandTalk.com forum polls at evidence. A DOCTOR SHOWING FORUM POLLS AS EVIDENCE HIS PROCEDURE IS BETTER? IS HE INSANE? HE SHOULD BE DISBANDED, DISBARRED, OR WHATEVER THEY DO TO DOCTORS WHO BEHAVE SO IRRATIONALLY. Here is the you tube video: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FBURPv9zS6U&feature=related]YouTube - Two Failed Lapband Patients Converted to the MGB[/ame]

I did something bad today. 1st off my lapband is well over a year old and have been doing great. I never add the band filled because I had enough restriction nad have been losing weight. Now on to my bad thing that I did. I was eating "something I probably shouldn't have" and must have swolled too much at one time and it got stuck. I got thinks stuck before and usually went away in a couple minutes. However this time and didnt go away and I did the unspeakable thing adnd drank a gulp of Water. Well my stomach became really tight and then a sharp pain. Then I felt the food push through my band. I felt fine. However, after a few minutes later I took another bite and now all the sudden I cacn;t feel the restriction. Its like my band is not there any more. Anyone know if this is a sign of slippage? I mean maybe my band wasn;t in the right place to begin with and thats why it felt so tight without any fill? I am just not sure.

I created a spread sheet for everyone to view online. It tracks your weight, waist size, and BMI before and after surgery. It will keep track of how many lbs we loss and inches around your waist. I thought it would be cool if we can track the progress of all the JJ's out there and total them up. So if you want on just click my name and private messege me the following info: 1. Weight at Surgery time 2. Waist at Surgery time 3. Current Weight 4. Current Waist 5. Finally your height. I will making revisions on the look of the chart over the next week or so. However I still can input everyone's information. Here is the rough draft! http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=p6evGubdxcy_4ky4_aiiDAg&output=html Hope to get alot of people on here so we track our group.

snuffy65 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I created a spread sheet for people who were banded in June. Its kind of a way to keep tabs on how your doing along with others that have been banded close to same time as you were. I posted this in the June 2008 forum but see alot of new people that have been banded in June so thought I would post here as well. If you would like to be added just PM me with your: 1. Height 2. Goal Weight 3. pre-surgery weight 4. post-surgery weight 5. pre-surgery waist measurements 6. post-surgery waist measurements You can always find the updated chart here. -
Any Support Groups in Sainaw/Bay City/Midland
snuffy65 replied to casscitymom's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Just fYI, there is a general WLS support group that goes on in the tricity area. Only a couple banders but most of them post on obesityhelp.com. I moved to florida weeks after surgery so I didn't get a chance to check it out. -
Greyhoundmom's chili reminded me of the white chicken chili I've been making at home. This is healthy and filling on a cold day. If you never had Ruby Tuesday's chicken chili go try it. It's awesome! Mine doesn't taste like Ruby's but its still good. FYI: This the first time I wrote this recipe down. I created it from scratch. In a pot throw in: 2 - 15oz cans of Great Northern Beans 3 cups of Chicken broth 5 tbls of Light Cream 9 (OPTIONAL!) Bring to a boil..... In a large pan ( I like cooking my veggies and spices first): 1 cup of Chopped Yellow Onions 2 - 4oz cans of Diced Green Chiles (for hotter chili use diced Jalapenos) 4 Tbls of Chili powder 2 Tbls of Cumin 1 Tbls of Red Pepper 2 Tbls of Garlic powder (I usualy use fresh garlic but either is ok) 1 Tbls of Black Pepper Cook until Onions are SLIGHTLY done..... Dump contents of pan into pot..... Lower heat on pot to just under a simmer.... Add 2 - Drained 15.5oz cans of Diced Chicken Breast to pot.... Let cook on very low eat for 3-4 hours until desired consistency. When disired consistency is obtained salt and spice to taste if need be. Again, the light cream is OPTIONAL. I like it either way, but my wife likes the cream in there cause it gives the chili a creamy and almost cheesy taste to it.

Grill 6 chicken breasts. Slice Chicken into thin slices and let cool. In a large ziploc bag mix: 1/2 c. olive oil 1/3 c. lime juice 1/2 tsp. salt 1/4 tsp. cumin 3 cloves garlic, minced 1/4 c. vinegar 1/2 c. chopped onion 1 tsp. oregano 1/2 tsp. pepper 3 tblsp. Chili powder After chicken has cooled off throw in bag and shake up. Keep this bag of chicken in your fridge and pull out to make stuff like: Chicken with wheat tortillas and peppers Add chicken on top of refried Beans and cover with cheese and fesh pico Or just eat chicken plain. Many many other stuff you can make with this and it keeps well in the fridge all week.

Sorry I haven't responded to these Michigan threads in awhile. I been spending most of my time with fellow june bansters in 2008 June forums. I have been doing great. As you can see, I lost a total of 67 lbs with 47lbs of that coming off after surgery. I would love to comment in depth about Hurley Bariatrics' post-op care but I have only gone in 3 times after my surgery. Once to get post-op check up, once to get a first fill, then only 1 week later to get my band unfilled. I talked with the nutrionists and PA's there and we agreed I am one of those lucky people that don;t need a fill for a long time. Lost all this weight and its still coming off fast (almost too fast). I think just the fact that I have to eat slow and choose my food wisely is enough for me, go figure. Anyways, hope the rest of you are doing great!

I need to avarge 2.5lbs loss a week to hit 100lb loss by Christmas. I am averageing 3 lbs a week right now. That would be a crazy goal to hit but its possible.
-
Well, I broke the 60lbs loss marker. Which brings me that much closer to putting me under 200lbs before Thanksgiving. I am also over half way to my final goal, weeeeee! Glad to see other people's successes as well. Its a real inspiration.

I had a job interview last week. I got the suit I wore for an interview couple weeks before surgery and it was sooooo big on me, it looked horrible. So I got my suit I haven't been able to wear for about4-5 years now and it fit great! It had pin stripes but at lest it was a suit that fit.

I forgot to post about my first fill last week. I got 3cc's in my 10cc's band. The bad thing is I don't even think I needed it. This will probably be my only fill for at least a few months. The nurse says I look like I was of those lucky people that do good with just the band in and not tightened. I can only hope

Delicious food and product recommendations

Chopped chicken, fried in a pan with salsa, then put in bowl and topped with lo-fat cheese. -
Well, just to seperate me from everyone else here, I am not talking about losing the weight. I too, was struggling with the same thing. It's funny becuase the op's arguements that she is making in this thread sounds much like the arguments me and my PCP had for the last two years. He told me I will never get out of this depression if I don't exercise. I would always respond with "I am always too tired to exercise" and "I just go home and sleep because I am too tired". I was always trying to have him give me that "silver bullet" treatment that would get me out of the slump. It was an endless cycle which amaziningly is alot like the OP's situation. I am too tired to exercise and I was tired becuase I didn't exercise. Then I lost 20lbs pre-op. That didn't help any. I lost another 10lb after surgery and I was STILL tired. Finally, the band and surgery gave me enough incentive to just go out and do it. Even then it was hard for me to exercise the first fews days. I almost fell into that same cycle even after the surgery. But luckliy I didn't. Its that nudge out that door the first few days that will change your life. Sorry if it sounds like a lecture, and maybe it is. But its SUPPORT none the less. We suggested exercise, because its the right thing, the only thing, that will make you feel better. We are blunt because we DON'T want you to fail. If everyone on here said "don't worry about your sleepiness, just keep losing the weight", then 6 moths down the road when you lost 60lbs and still feel tired, then what? I myself would be even more depressed. We as a group, would have let you down because we weren't honest. The worst thing a support group can do is feed the excuses. Excuses are not holding most people back. Sleep Apnea doesn't keep people from exercising. Work, school, children, do not keep you from exercising. Borderline "coma" feeling when coming home from work does not keep you from exercising. Its the idea that all these excuses are the cause, that is holding you back and if we feed this idea by holding back and trying to be "polite" we are making these forums pratically useless. This will be my last post in this thread, for I think the June people have been going nicely. I just hope we can still give "correct" and "good" support to people without them going into denial and snapping anymore.

With all due respect mekadig , Jachut said nothing wrong. As a matter of fact, even though you Jachut's situations may be different, her advice was the correct one. My situation (like I stated earlier) was like yours. And I can tell you that you will not get better until you exercise. sleep Apnea is not the entire problem of sleepiness throughout the day. Thats why CPAP doesn't help. Losing weight doesn;t help. Sleep APnea makes you tired but not the extreme tiredness you are feeling. We both developed the habit of using as little energy as possible and your body, for a lack of a better term, goes into hibernation mode. The only way to get out of that mode is to exercise. If you start burning energy rather then just trying not to consume alot your body will change. I am a prime example. I lossed 30% of my excess body weight so I got another sleep study done. I still have sleep apnea. They couldn't even lower my CPAP pressure yet. However since, exercising I find it hard to go to bed earl so now I am getting about 6-7 hours a night of sleep instead of my usual 8-9 hours. yet I have no problems anymore staying awake at work. Me and Jachut are not trying to throw our success in people's faces. But its disheartening to hear people talk about exercise not being a major concern. When the fact is exercise should be just as much if not more of a concern then what you put in your mouth. I understand people hate to hear these things even when they are losing weight. I blew up at a couple of people these last few weeks becuase they have all these "suggestions" on how to improve my weight loss while they sit on the couch eating cheeto's.
