I am going to blunt here. Just warning in hopes not to offend anyone. Nobody will EVER reach their goal without exercise. Sure in the beginning here you might be losing weight but eventually you will stall. The only way to get over the hump without exercise is malnourishment. Eating badly and not exercising is unhealthy whether your fat or skinny. Exercise is key to any weight loss program or surgery so don't kid yourself. With that said, my story was the same as mekadig's, so I can relate. With my sleep apnea and other medical problems, I was tired. Add the fact that I have a desk job and I was downright unmotivated to do anything physical after work. It would get so bad I would almost fall asleep at the wheel on the way home from work. When I finally got my band date I promised myself I would start exercising two weeks after surgery. Sure enough, exactly two weeks after surgery I came home from work and was not feeling like walking. I told myself, "I am doing good, don't blow it now". So, I strapped on my new running shoes and started walking. My first day I did 1 mile. Got home and felt fine that night. The next day I was sore. I got home from work and was debating whether to go walking or let my leg soreness heal for one more day. I ended up going that day anyways. Halfway through I realized my leg pain went away and I had plenty of energy to finish the mile. I did this everyday until the following Monday. That day I noticed something when I drove home from work. I wasn't tired! I didn't have to have it below 60 degrees in the car to stay awake! When I went out to go walking I decided to do two miles. When I got home after the two miles I still had energy. So the following day I turned the corner and walked 3 miles! Needless to say, this has continued for the last 30 days. Now I walk 5 miles and even jog some of it. I walk the 5 miles in 1:12:00, and hoping to get it down under an hour in a month or 2. So bottom line, we all might get a small energy boost from losing weight and we might get motivated to lose more when people notice our current weight loss. However, the true energy boost and the true weight loss and healthy living all those health nuts talk about is never going to happen unless you exercise. I never believed it. My doctor told me for over a year. Get out and exercise, you will get energy. I always thought I had some immune disease, or it was the apnea, but it wasn't.

Sometimes your body just has to be reminded that your not trying to starve it, lol.

I wrote this same thing up in another thread. My sister has a trainer, so I asked her what to do since I only lost 1 lb in two week. She said to give myself a "high" calorie day. Get myself 2000+ calories for a day or two every 4 weeks. So that Sunday I went and bought myself a huge Peanutbutter Cup flurry and I had 2100 calories for that day. The following week I lost little over 5 lbs! My next "FAT" Sunday will be in two weeks. Can't wait,LOL! EDIT: ALos, the trainer said, no matter what you will always hit 2-3 week plateus at least a couple times while losing weight. But your body is just adjusting and still doing the job of burning fat. So hang in there, your body is still doing good things!

I have to agree with this and the OP. I too find myself eating just to make sure I can eat. However, this should be a good thing. This is how your suppose to feel. Eat cause you have to not because you want to. Its definitly a lifestyle change whihc I don;t mind doing. But also, if you feel bored have you thought about treating yourself? I don;t mean with some ice cream or fast food joint. I was went grocery shopping with my wife the other day. I kept pulling healthy food of the shelves. Howevr , I was getting expensive stuff. I didn;t want the oscar meyer packaged turkey. I went the deli and got the most expensive awesome turkey. I didn't by the local store brands of healthy Soups and Snacks. I bought the named brands.I buy the expensive yogurts. Now usually I am the one that shops with coupons and what not. She asked me about it and I said. "I eat ten times less then I use too. Even if I bought the most expensive stuff my grocery bill still wuoldn't be as high as before my surgery. Now I got all this wondeful(yet healthy) food to choose from. I treat myself with grilled fish instead of plain grilled chicken everryday. I treat my self to crab legs oncein a while (i know not he best for you.) Witht he healthy bread, turkey, lo fat butter and , lf chese I can make grilled turkey sandwichs. I have millions of ideas and will be having fun trying them all. OH ya, I still treat myself to fast food also. Every other day I either go to taco bell and get two "pint's and cheese" or wendy's small chili before I go home. They both taste awesome and still feeel like I got some old fast food food in me.

For two weeks I only loss 2 lbs. I know 2 lbs was in the threshold, but I was eating about 750 calories and walking 5 miles everyday and still only lossed 2 lbs. I talked with my sister's trainer and she told me every 4 weeks have a high calorie day. Eat at least 2,000 calories for that day. So last monday after my walk it was hot, so I went to the ice cream shop. Got the nutrional info on their softserve icecream and Peanutbutter cups and had a monster large Flurry for 1,000 calories. It was delicious. I felt soooo bad afterwards. Soooooo guilty. However this Monday I weighed myself and lossed 5.5lbs!!!. Now I can't wait, cause in 3 weeks I can do it again .

Family (Especially mother) ticking me off

LOL, thanks Cathy! -
I had an argument with my mother the other day that ended badly. I'm staying with my parents till I heal up then moving to Orlando where my wife is (long story). Anyways, every day for the last few weeks my mother calls me down for dinner. I don't eat anything and she asks me what I can and cannot have. Every day I tell her the same thing, "I can have what your cooking, but I choose to eat what I bought cause I know what the nutrition value is and can log it." Last weekend we had alot of relatives over for my bro's B-day and the same thing happened as usual. This time everyone chimes in. They say things like " suck that you got the band you can't eat this" and "is that healthy when your not eating". Bunch of stupid stuff. But calmly I say what I always do, "I choose to eat certain stuff right now for nutrition not the band". So this past week I have been leaving the house or going up stairs during my parents dinner time. They don't say anything and all seems fine. This weekend my sister has a birthday. So again all the relatives come over. This time I head upstairs while people are eating. I come down after a half hour to walk in on my mother talking about me. She's telling everyone how I don't eat, and how miserable I am. I tell her I feel better then I ever did. I have been going out more and have been generally happier. She then goes on to say "I don't see it. How can you be happy at parties and things if you can't eat anything. Your so miserable you have to go up stairs to get away from the food." I growled and started telling her in a angry voice "First of all, I don't go up stairs during meal times to get away from the food. It's to get away from you and your constant badgering about what I put in my mouth. Secondly, I can eat anything I want, I just don't choose to put that garbage you make in my stomach. And lastly, I no longer need food anytime to make me happy. If you raised us not to depend on food to make us comfortable and happy, maybe this family wouldn't have the weight troubles we have. I then left. I kinda feel bad, luckily my bro and sister weren't in the room when I said that last part. But I am sure my mother will tell them. The problem she is always doing this. With not only food, but my exercise. Everyday I come home, get my shorts and shoes on and goes walking. And everyday I have to here why I shouldn't go out that day. She says "your gonna burn yourself out", "it might rain in a bit", "you should watch the game with your dad". Driving me up the wall I tell ya. Anyways if you finished reading this thanks for taking the time. I just had to vent. Who knew men could be so emotional too.

Its been a week since my surgery and doing fine. I forgot my laptop at work so getting good Internet time in at home has been difficult. Today I updated everyone that has PM'ed me so far on the spread sheet. We have 86 people so far!!!! If there are new people or people who haven't had the time to send me your information yet please PM me. I am always available for additions and updates. Expect a 24 hour max wait time on any updates. There has been a few changes to the data since it was created. Please PM me with any data that has changed. 1st - I changed the "surgery weight" and "surgery waist" to "Pre-Surgery" weight & waist. So if you gave me your sweight at surgery time and it was more pre surgical please send me the update. 2nd - I added a "goal" weight column. Most people sent me their goal weight. If you haven't sent me your goal weight I put in there the recommended weight for your height instead. If you want it changed just messege me. So what about the numbers so far? Well I got bad news and good news. The bad news is we as a group have almost 10,000 lbs to lose for us to reach our goal:eek::eek:!!! The good news is we already lost over 1,000 lbs:thumbup::frown: Here is the link: Jazzy June Data Sheet Good luck everyone! Keep those JJ's coming in and keep losing that weight!

We go to Vegas once or twice a year, so I would probably be game. Oh, and some of us are not ladies, hehe. -
I have been staying low at work and home. Also, all my ld skinny people clothes are in Florida at the moment.

Broccoli needs to be really cooked down. Probably more then people would like it to be. But the way the stalks are and the mini stalks it really needs to be soft.
-
I was only getting about 500 a day in. Then I started splurging on more "quetionable" food. Like cheese on my refritos and such. It really does make the difference. I feel fine after exercising if I have above 700 calories. Now I am averaging 865 calories a day, which is perfect for me. I will consult my nutritionist in 3 weeks though. Maybe you should too.

Well, I surpassed my first goal finally. About 8 years ago I weighed 165lbs. In just two short years I blew up to 250lbs because of quitting smoking, other health issues, and picking up a desk job. The last two years I blown up to 282, and thats when I decided to get banded and get back to 165. Well, my first mini goal was to get that extra 32 lbs off so I would be at that 250 mark. Today I weighed myself and I am now 246. Thats bleow my mini goal and only 46lbs from my next mini goal, breaking 200. I know it will get harder and hrader as I lose weight but I think I am on the right path.

My weirdest thing is I use to hate going outside. Now I am walking 4 miles a day. Seems like I can't get enough of it now. It's what I look foward to after work every day.

How much is too much Protein
snuffy65 replied to LeslieR041906's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
100 Grams is not too much IF YOUR EXERCISING. Exercising is the key, especially if your trying to build up a little strength. I will be at 120 Grams when I begin my weight training. -
Phoenix: your doing awsome. You started out with a pretty low BMI compared to most people on here. So, losing weight for you will be slower. When we all get to 31 BMI we will slow down too. Just the nature of the beast.

Though I agree regular chicken may not go down like the canned. Its more of moisture issue rather then anything. A good thing I like to do before banded is cook up chicken and cube it. I then marinate it in some spices. Throw the chicken into a plastic bag and let it sit overnight then drain some access fliud then freeze. You can freeze them in one big bag or make seperate small ziplocks like I do. I can take them out anything, microwave them and they come out perfect everytime. Don't get my wrong, canned chicken is a good replacement for canned tuna. However, I wouldn't replace canned chicken with regular chicken unless I was under severe time constraints.

Whats wrong with tuna? I love tuna. Personally I wouldn't waste time with canned chicken. Getting a 4lb bag of chicken breast, cooking it up, cubing it, and freezing is alot better then the canned. It tastes better, has more nutrients, and hardly any sodium compared to canned chicken. Or if you go online you can buy frozen cubed chicken. The same stuff found in restaurants.
