Parents pick prayer over docs; girl dies

How is not getting your child to a doctor, neglect? I mean I know its extreme but why is someone required to use modern medicine? I mean this country has it completely backwards now days. We don't want anyone to use certain drugs that are proven to work, yet we want to force other people to use the regulated care system? Who are you to tell someone who and what they HAVE TO beleive in. I mean believe me, I am the first one to tell you that most religions are just man created houses of worship and know nothing about life and the spiritual. But religion needs its freedoms, as much as atheists do.

All you people do is complain...

Cat's meow hmmm CM doesn't work.
  3. I know, but if you read my post earlier this is what all pro lifers result to at the end of every abortion debate. They have to bring partial birth aborstions then work their way down. If sperm is just sperm and a egg is just an egg why is it all the sudden special? The chemical reaction now makes it illegal to not discard it? You saying mothers are killing babies when they take some birth control pills causeing the wall of the uterus to not be able to hold onto the fetilize eggs? If the morning after pill is killing babies wouldn't that make it the worst drug in the world's history? Can't understand sarcasm can you? And this is the crux of the matter. Spiritually, I would say this might be the start of life. Legally I say no. It doesn't even have a social security number. Problem is no one knows when life starts, but no one is forcing you to have abortions. I agree abortions are bad and should not be taken lightly. I have the option ( and take that option) to express my views against abortions. However I consider the end decision is with the woman and the man (if present) to decide on their own. Why can't pro lifers leave it at that?

This thread is going to be sooo inappropriate!

Apparently you don't read numbers but thats ok. I can also post the 50 threads I found from Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery and Duodenal switch'es wondering if they can get revised to get a lapband too. So its not only lapbanders that don't finish. As for the smell thing that this forum was about? About 90% of the Duodenal switch'ers posting about how they don't stink always seem to follow up at the end with "When I do stink I (insert gross remedy for bad smelly person here)"...... Not saying they all stink but its definitly a problem and definitly is wide spread. Last thing, your proving the OP right. You look at the banders on OH and most of them try to give honest opinions, while a majority of the Duodenal switch'er just start spewing hate for all surgerys. Just like here I said the band is safer and healthier, yes in the short run and long run it is. The only thing most of us have against Duodenal switch'ers is their attitude, which you're clearly showing now. Oh and thanks for investing in a company that helps other people. I try to do the same when I buy stocks. Apparently we all see why the lapband didn't work for you and why you chose a riskier more life altering method, it cuase you don't have a work ethic and blame everyone for your own faults and try to lie yourself into makeing bad choices. Grats on losing weight, hope you gain back some self dignity you lost on your way.

Parents pick prayer over docs; girl dies

I think we under estimate people's faith here. Religion has built and destroyed countries. Religion shapes and defines people. With so much influence some people will ignore everything else. I for one think the parents should not be prosecuted. We can't start forcing people to ignore their religion. That would be like China telling us to change to communism. And you can bet million of americans would give their lives to avoid that. One other example, a co-worker of mine is a jehovah's witness, and her sister went in to get part of her colon removed. The surgery lasted twice as long and they needed to revive 3 times, all because she wouldn't take blood. I ask my co-worker if she agreed with that choice and she said yes, for her and her children. All I could say is "I wish I had that much faith".......
  7. And so like all the other pro lifers you want to take it to the extreme. You will say "If partial birth abortions are illegal then why not make abortions over the second trimester illegal? "Then you would say fetus in 2nd trimester is not much different then the third trimester why not make abortions in the 2nd trimeseter illegal". You would then work your way down till all abortions are illegal and that jacking off in a tissue would get men arrested. Oh but I forgot, god will burn those men. No thanks, I think women should have their right to choose.

RNY vs LAPBAND This is the kind of crap the OP was talking about. In that thread somone wanted to know the pros and cons and of course lapband people and the most of th Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery'ers are pretty a target with their comments then couple Duodenal switch'ers gt on and start hollaring about how much better their surgery is and how lap bands kill people. Its funny you can post that the lapband is safer even when the numbers prove it yet Duodenal switch'ers scream foul.:crying: Everyone on these boards warn people what the band is a tool and not a magic pill. And DS'ers and revisionists claim banders keep that quiet dcause most of them either jumped into it too fast or didn't understand what their specific problem is with wait.

You must be talking about the alter universe lapbandtalk. These forums help alot of people including me. I haven't seen many negative posts against soone asking a question, except on the rants and raves boards. Hmmm wish I could say the same about over forum sites Theres also alot of people who have expressed their frustrations and failures with the band on here. Also, I don't believe lap band people are better then ds'ers. But I do knowthe lap band is the healthiest choice of all the surgerys IF they can handle the work and with limited complications.

    I dont get it

Well here's my life story. All of highschool I battled my weight. Then I went on serious diet. I am 5'8" and went from 265 to 155. Did I get "you look great"? Did I get "your donig a good job"? No, everyone including friends and family would say things like: "Your too skinny, you need to eat" "Are you sick, you look bad" "I liked you went you were chubby" Now I know alot of people will say I only remember the bad things that were said and not the good. But there wasn't any. The only reaasurance was from myself and a few close friends. I told my close family and no friends about my choice for a lap band and I am already getting the same kind of negativity. My wife who I met in my "skinny days" is really the onnly one that supports this decision right now. Oh well, thats enough for me.

    kids & bus stops

I was thinking the same thing. The kids would probably laugh but I'm sure the parents would care when their wet children gets into their new cars.

    Worst dieting experience EVER...

I aint responding to this to change your mind about atkins. However the diet isn't quite that bad when done right. Sure the 1st two induction weeeks are insane but after that you can have a little bit of carbs. Just enough to make other selections of food , like low carb bread ad vegetables. Heck I've seen what people's menus on these forums look like after they get restriction and most of them are following the atkins diet and don't even know it. Little chicken, little vegatables, sugar free drinks. Thats all atkins type diet. Theres two flaws withthe atkins diet and these flaws are actually the person's fault not atkins. 1. Atkins only requires strict no carb diet for two weeks then you can slowly eat more per day till you find the "sweet spot" no pun intended. Here most people think tsaying on the induction period for the full duration of the diet will make the lose wieght faster and their inablitly to research what else they can have that is low carbs, keeps them just eating meat/cheese/ eggs till they get that greasy, sick, clogged arteries feeling and quit. 2. Atkins diet is "UNFORGIVING". meaning you can't cheat. At all. You cheat and you will gain weight and have to start all over with the induction two weeks. Atkins can be healthy if done right. But like every thing else you have to work at it and be commited.

    Worst dieting experience EVER...

Funny thing is if they are just looking for ketosis you could have eaten all the meat you wanted and also threw in some eggs and cheese.

    Common sense anyone?

I was going to rant like this also but since you did I will hold back. I have not been banded yet and only been to one consultation. I have read my post and pre op guides and read these forums and am amazed at how many people who been banded already ask the weirdest question. Like the "omg, its been 5 weeks since i banded and i gained or stayed the same weight. Well, there is 30 stickys here and on almost every seminar, presentation, video i saw at least mentioned once the fact you will probably not lose or might even gain weight at this time. But oh well, it doesn;t hurt me any
  17. And I answered you. An aborted fetus is less strenious on somone then pulling alive baby out or having a C section. Ask a doctor. As for when a limit could be made? I don't know. If we did pro lifers will get an inch and try to take the mile. Thats why there has been nothing done about partial birth abortions. Where did you get the information then?

Parents pick prayer over docs; girl dies

I say this is a horrible story and feel bad for the girl. But also, people have their beliefs and should be able to live their lives and raise their families the way they want. However, this should work both ways and the bible thumpers need to let the other people live the way they want (i.e. gay marriage, abortions, birth control, sex, drugs, rock n roll type things).
  19. Try getting info other then some evangelical site. And just FYI, I only support partial birth abortions under extreme situations and would like to see a cap on when somone can have an abortion under any circumstance.
  20. Cause going through labor and doing surgery (like a C section) would be highly risky with somone with a lung blood clot. Yes you can say why not risk the mother's life for a chance to keep the babies. But I wouldn't want to force someone to make that decision one way or the other. And why every arguemnt I have with somebody about abortions ends with me argueing partial birth abortions? Because thats the only small part of pro choice option that you can remotely argue about.

    Vegetarians...

Well by the title I thought you meant you were a vegan. But FYI, Person who practices "SEMI-Vegatarism" Which is what you do is still by definition considered a vegetarian. Sorry, I didn't mean anything by my earlier comment. Anyhow, even though I am not banded yet I can still tell you shouldn't have any problems getting your Proteins. Here's a link to a small site to look up high protein veggies. But if you eat fish alot then you will be fine. Protein in the Vegan Diet -- The Vegetarian Resource Group
  22. Anyone use Dr. Farhan and/or had experience with Hurley Bariatrics? I am in the middle of getting cleared from my insurance company. So far so good. I talked with Dr. Farhan and so far the staff there seems nice. Just looking for anyone that has gone through with the band at hurley and maybe specifically with Dr. Farhan. Thanks in advanced!

Advice you can take or leave, but please listen..

I think most people that ask questions like that and other questions better suited for a professional is the "embarrassment" factor. Some people find it easier to post semi anonymously on message boards, rather then talk to someone in person. I don't think its right but thats what alot of people do.

    Dr. Farhan Flint, Michigan

Thats good to hear! I only been at the office once. I see most people haven't talked to him until after the surgery. I met him my first day down there. He was pleasant. You go to the support groups in flint? I live in saginaw so too long for me to drive me thinks.
