  1. I intended to tell only a select few family members, and told them I didn't want it getting out. Well get out it did, my in laws called today and asked how I was after the surgery. I don't really mind that they know really, it's just the rest of the 40+ family members on my husbands side that also will know. I don't feel comfortable talking about the surgery with thin people. Somehow if someone is struggling themselves with weight they have a better understanding of why I did this. For the others, it's none of their business.

Not a happy camper on the liquid diet!

My doctor recommended a Atkins type Low Carb diet for two weeks. He said my liver looked real good at surgery too.

    Why are YOU Fat?

Interesting thread, I've enjoyed reading the posts as many rang true for me. Why am I fat? Well it's alot of things for me, including: I snack when I'm stressed. I can remember night after night studying (as my children slept), and pouring a big bowl of M&M's to reward myself. Abuse as a child, I think pushed me to subconsiously overeat. The therapist during my psych evalucation told me that this is a very common thread with heavy women. I also use food for comfort. One of my favorate foods as a young adult was a pot of hot Tapicoa pudding made from scratch (yes I'd eat the whole thing). And finally I'm firmly convinced that dieting made me fat. Even though I was over weight for a few pre-teen years, I really didn't gain significant weight until I started dieting after the birth of my first child. Lose 30 gain 50 etc. Thanks for asking the question, and for everyones posts.

    New to this all!

Can only answer one of your questions. I'd recommend to take off a full week after surgery. I tryed to come back in 4 days and really regreted it. Some say it works for them, but it sure didn't for me. Good luck with you voyage of discovery . . .

Anyone Out There Have Pacificare Hmo?

I'd say go ahead and submit the requests through your doctor. I was told absolutely not but they were my secondary insurance so I kind of excepted that. My doctors office sent it in any way and low and behold got back an approval letter. Just had my surgery!

    Greetings from TX

I'm a Newbie from Washington State, and was banded last Thursday. I'm 52 and made this decision because I was tired of well feeling tired all the time. I know it will be great in the long run, but the short run isn't alot of fun. Having a pretty tough time with gas pains -- way worse than the incisions. Went back to the doctor today and got some nausea meds, and additional pain meds but still feeling rough. I'm loving the weight loss, but I'd really like to feel better soon. The wonderful support on this site is very encouraging, I'm so happy that I found it.
