I'm almost 5 wks banded, and boy am I having a serious case of the grouches. Work has been a real challenge lately and it's really been more than I can handle with the new band and all. I'm not really sure why, but I suspect that since my coping mechanism is gone (potatoe chips, candy, etc.) and I haven't found another that I'm on melt down. I took 1/2 day vacation on Friday and plan to take another this coming Friday, just got a perscription of valium, and have tried deep breathing, but still on the edge. My question is has anyone else been here? If so how long til you got a handle on the subconcious feelings?

Yes, I'm good on protein most days, and take good vitamins. My job is high pressure and highly visable. And I'm behaving in ways that senior management isn't used to, of course they've recently doubled my work load and I'm pissed. But the culture doesn't allow for anything but a professional can do attitudes from management. So the quick fix for me is the valium just so I don't get fired (I have 2 years til retirement). I will be careful, and only take it at work. The counseling sounds like a good idea, as does the exercise maybe I can take a couple of 10 minute walks around the building during the day. It's like realllllly bad PMS, where I know I'm being mean . .. but don't seem to care. Thanks for all of the encouragement and support.

Several previous posts have suggested Biotin which I began taking, and it seems to have slowed the fall out. But, also I added a good multi at the same time.

Diane -- it is a tricky dealing with family. I guess I would try to keep peace for your husbands sake and for the marriage. In the long run hostility never helps anything, regardless of who is right (and clearly you knew the reaction which is why you said San Diego). I think I'd go with the letter, it won't allow them to dominate the conversation. Tell them that you didn't tell them initially that you were being banded in Mexico because you thought they would worry, and you didn't want that. Explain the price different (maybe in % if you don't want them to know the dollars). And leave it at that. But don't expect support -- it sounds like they don't have the skills.

Haven't had a PB, but then I haven't had my first fill yet. I do have a strange thing happening however. When I know I ate too much or too fast, it doesn't hurt in my stomach but down by my port. Any ideas?

Well actually No panties and No bra. It's 3 pm and I'm still in my jammies, my favorite clothes of all. I have cleaned the kitchen, but the husband is fishing. So the dogs and I are relaxing, and watching college football. Go Huskies, Go Gators . . .

Kare and Margo, I'm with you . . George is the one for me too. Every Gorgeous Inch of him. . . In Italy on his veranda . . with a view of the sea. . the smell of ripe olives in the surrounding trees . . the taste of an exquisite regional wine . . the sound of Bocelli on the stereo . . . and the feel of --- well you get the picture.

I'm a month out, and have a fill scheduled at the 6 week mark. The nutritionist was very insistent about the first fill saying "I would want it". But I'm not so sure I do, unless things change in the next two weeks. I am able to eat fairly normally (a whole lot less), still have pain if I eat too much (any about over 3/4 cup). But I can go out to dinner, and eat my left overs for 2 more meals. I can have a taste of wine, half cup of oatmeal for breakfast, and I've started being able to have a couple of bits of cooked vegetables without pain. I'm still most days under 1000 calories, and I don't want to go back to liquids and not sure I should eat much less than I do right now. I'm starting to feel like I can live like this, still alot of restriction and very small amounts. It would be helpful to get some other views . . .

During surgery...local anesthesia or are you "out"?
aneffie53 replied to tztmama's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I enjoyed the first night in the hospital especially the hospital bed. Being able to move the top of the bed upright was great right after surgery. But, it wasn't necessary and if I was self pay I wouldn't have stayed. -
Count me in. This is great, I really need the push.

How about meat substitutes, like tofu burgers. All kinds of products one of my favorites is the barbq chicken patties, but the burgers are great too. I've found them really easy to eat. Loaded with Protein too!

ReneBean -- Don't know where your at, I live in the Northwest which have Fred Meyers. I get it in the healthfood section, there. I've also seen it at Super supplements. Super Supplements has a good selection of powders and liquids. I got the B12, Calcium and Biotin there. At first I was so happy to find a liquid I got a multiple from costco, but after looking at the levels of Vitamins and minerals I wasn't impressed. So when I found the "All One" I was looking for specific levels of vitamins and minerals. It does take a couple of days to overcome the color thing, doesn't taste but looks really yucky.

I've been banded almost a month, and have recently been bothered by the area around my port. In fact it is more like a muscle soreness. I'm afraid I might have pulled a muscle or something but don't see how. In fact it seems to hurt more after I eat, which seems even stranger. Any ideas?

I take "All One Powder", which is a multiple vitamin mineral powder with a green phyto base. So I get vege's and vitamins. It is a organic supplement and the "green" gives it the equivalent of 3 services of vege's. I mix it with 1/2 cup juice in the morning, and also add additional B12/Folic Acid (liquid) and Calcium/Magnesium (liquid), and a Biotin lozenge (for hair loss prevention). Seems to be going good, I can actually feel the difference.

Would you convert to Bypass if...
aneffie53 replied to DeLarla's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
No I would never consider a bypass. -
Things I want to be able to do: 1. Accept invitations from old friends (if I'd like to go) and not worry about my size first. 2. Get in a hot tub or pool during the day light hours. 3. Feeling comfortable in a regular seat when I fly. 4. Kayaking 5. Getting out of bed without hurting 6. Not needing my CPap machine (for Apnea) at night. 7. Not believing my weight is causing every problem that I have. 8. Wearing "normal" clothes. 9. Camping/Hiking trips in the mountains. 10. Thinking about the adventure first, not my lack of stamina. 11. Boob job, so that I'm not flat like I was when I was thin. 12. Being able to shop for things I like, not things that fit. 12. Growing old with my children, grandchildren, great grand children (hopefully).

I'm a little over 3 weeks post op, and the other day I was sitting at work and had just finished by Atkins shake (at 9 I had started to drink it at 7:30) turned the can around to see in the discripition it said "great 60 second meal". I laughed outloud, that 1 minute meal had taken me and hour and a half. Sip, sip, sip at your stage. I remember horrible back pain from drinking too fast during the first week. Take Care it gets easier. . .

I had my gall bladder removed 4 years ago and my surgeon said the surgery for my lapband was one of the easiest he has done.
-
Gallbladder symtoms can vary significantly between people. As an example my husband (unbanded) was hospitalized 2 years ago with constant vomiting, lots of pain, and a complete shutdown of his digestive system. In the hospital they put in a stomach tube because even saliva would make him vomit and kept him on IV's so that he wouldn't get dehydrated. He was in horrible shape (and this from a guy who doesn't complain). After 4 days and no improvement, they assumed (tests I was told wouldn't confirm this) he had a kink in his large intestine. So he was scheduled for emergency surgery the next morning. Well low and behold after exploratory surgery for 4 hrs they discovered the problem was his gallbladder. Unfortunately he had been slit from steam to stern to discover it. The surgeon hadn't thought the symtoms matched gall bladder attacks and the duration didn't either. I realize this was a very long story, but it shows how doctors can be fooled by the source of problems. I would do as 'the best of me' suggested "I would remove the gallbladder, heal, no fill at all, and see how you do . . . and while you are banded, never take pills again without crushing them" - you know almost everything is available in liquid or chewable. Boy I sure wouldn't have the RNY when you already have undiagnoised stomach/intestinal issues. So that's my two cents. I hope you feel better soon, and congrats on the amazing weight loss.

Have a question -- Is it common to be cold all of the time? I'm 2 weeks post surgery and I'm freezing. My husband says it is from the significantly reduced calories -- but I don't know. Nope no fever, and it's in the low 70's, so not cool enough to be cold.
-
You made me LOL Jachut -- yep I'm sure I'll have a similiar look. Reminds me of the childrens song '"Ears" hang low and they wobble to fro' -- or something like that.

I've got at least a year before cosmetic surgery (recently banded). But I'm anticipating probably getting a boob lift and enlargement. Before I was heavy I was a A cup and never liked being that size. Have any of you big loosers had breast lifts and enlargments, and if so could you share your story and how much the surgery cost?
