WTH? All these different post op diets after sleeve! Ughhh

Haha....it is sort of crazy, how different everyone's plan is, isn't it?
  2. I just fried mine with a little bit of spray margarine. They were delicious!

    June 24th Peeps chime in!

My surgery was June 23rd. I'm still on full liquids. My surgeon is a little stricter on the stages of post op liquids/foods. I'm feeling great. No problems getting in all my liquids, plus some. No nausea at all (not even once). I've lost a total of 28 pounds since the pre-surgery requirements began (a total of 9 since surgery). I get to start on soft foods in 3 days, but who's counting, right? LOL
  4. Here's my advice. Don't borrow trouble. Read and study about the surgery. Talk to your surgeon and his staff. But don't borrow trouble. I had my surgery 16 days ago. I am usually prone to nausea after anesthesia. However, due to the meds they gave me pre and post surgery, I had no issues. Also? I haven't had one bought of nausea or vomiting since my surgery. Except for the first few days after surgery, I've gotten in upwards of 70 ounces of liquids every single day. You *may* have some nausea. You *could* even vomit, but I believe it's more likely that if you follow instructions to the letter, you will be fine. Good luck! Here's my advice. Don't borrow trouble. June 24th Peeps chime in!

I'm doing great. I had my 1 week follow up with my surgeon. I'm getting in plenty of liquids and got moved to full liquids, so no more clear protein drinks. Now I'm having the creamy ones, which makes me much happier. Just a tiny bit of soreness of incisions (mainly the underneath sutures of the muscles), but no real pain since last week. I have energy, and I'm thrilled with this decision. I'm glad to hear you guys are doing well! Keep it up!
  6. I would talk to your surgeon about this. All plans are different, obviously. My surgeon says that until I lose 75% of my excess weight, I'm to have no carbs, except for vegetable based carbs.....and even then, only 5 per meal.....15 per day is my max. I also am not allowed Pasta, bread, etc. until that point. I strongly suggest you speak to your surgeon and follow his/her plan.

    New Sleever Needing Advice

    I need protein

I'm not sure about your surgeon, but mine told me that for the first week it was much more important to get my liquids in than to worry about my Protein.
  9. I haven't been here long.....almost two weeks post surgery, so I probably shouldn't chime in. However, I'm happy to see other people besides me with their heads close to exploding. LOL There do seem to be a lot of people who had this surgery who want to skip steps and/or eat things they shouldn't (and many within just a few weeks of surgery). It terrifies me. But I think the worst ones for me are the posts that say something like, "I've been doing everything perfect, and I've lost 30 pounds in the past 4 weeks since surgery, but OMG.....I haven't lost anything in the past day!" Sorry, I couldn't resist. Back to lurking. )
  10. Bless your heart. I hope you start healing soon. I'm so sorry you are going through so many complications. I also pray that you have someone by your side through all of this. In any event, come here to vent and get support from us.
  11. I was sleeved on June 23rd. My instructions are two weeks on clear liquids. Then I have two weeks on full liquids. Only then do I progress to two weeks of pureed, then two more weeks of soft foods. So, that means it will be 8 weeks before I have real food. Two things.....1) I'm not hungry. The surgery has been a wonderful thing for me. 2) This is my new life. I would never have put myself through major surgery to not stick to what my surgeon has told me to do. I read and prepared and made myself knowledgable about how this works. I'm so excited about the future. I figure I can get through a few weeks of liquids to get to the good part of less (or no) knee pain, of feeling better, physically and emotionally, etc. Hang in there. You can do this!

One week post-op HOW ARE WE DOING?

I was sleeved on the 23rd. Home on the 25th. Feeling good. Just a little sore on one side, where they removed the excess stomach. I also had a minor hiatal hernia repaired. I'm having no trouble getting in my liquids, plus some. Building up my Protein intake. I have a clear liquid diet for two weeks, then full liquids for another two weeks. Only then do I get to progress to pureed foods.

    Home from the hospital!

I had my Gastric Sleeve surgery on Tuesday, June 23rd (one month after my 53rd birthday). Everything went well. My surgeon said he repaired a small hiatal hernia while he was in there. All in all I feel pretty good. The only real pain is when I'm going from a sitting position to standing, or from a standing position to sitting. No nausea, no vomiting, and I'm doing pretty well on my liquids. The staff at the hospital was great, and my husband could not be more supportive. I remember there were several other people scheduled for the same day as I was. I hope all of you are doing well!

    Surgery tomorrow

I'm tomorrow, too! Good luck everyone. Oddly enough, I'm not really nervous. A little anxious, but I'm ready. I feel very informed and have no doubts this is the right thing for me. It's sort of a peaceful feeling actually.

    June 24th Peeps chime in!

I'm also scheduled for the 23rd! I have a two day clear liquid diet that I started today. One more day and then I'm on my way! Good luck to you.

    Drinking through a straw

This is another of those things that is different with every surgeon. Mine says it's fine.
  17. TakeitorSleeveit

    Nervous

Your plan sounds just like mine. I have clear liquids Sunday and Monday, and my surgery is Tuesday morning!
  18. TakeitorSleeveit

    Nervous

I'm actually in Nashville, so we have different surgeons. LOL
  19. TakeitorSleeveit

    Nervous

If you don't mind my asking, who is your doctor? He sounds just like mine. His words to me? "I could force you into a liquid diet for two weeks like my colleagues, but all I need you to do is eat high protein, low carb for the next couple weeks. If you can lose 10 pounds or so, that's great."
  20. TakeitorSleeveit

    Nervous

Don't be nervous. Every doctor/nutritionist has different guidelines. My doctor just told me to eat lean Protein and veggies like a sane person. LOL That's for two weeks pre-surgery, and then I have two days of Clear Liquids right before surgery. My surgery is 6/23. I've lost 8 pounds already and still have 5 days until surgery. Just follow *your* doctor's/nutritionist's orders and don't worry about what other people are doing. You'll be fine.
  21. That's great. I can really see the difference. And I LOVE that Rocky shirt. I may need that. ;o)

    June 24th Peeps chime in!

My surgery is June 23rd! I don't have a liquid pre-op diet, except for the two days right before my surgery. I just have to eat high Protein and low carb until then.

    June 30th Sleevers?

I'm so ready to be there too! Please feel free to private message me or just post here if you want to talk or share how it goes. Your surgery is on my pre-op test day so I know my nervousness will really kick in that day. I'll be sure to say some prayers for you to have a super speedy recovery while I'm sitting around waiting for all my tests to be done that day. It will be certainly help my nerves to have your surgery to think about and pray for instead of my own during pre-op. Have you had any pre-op diet to follow? How much do you have to lose if you don't mind me asking? Prayers and positive thoughts are always welcomed! Thank you. Oddly enough, I'm not nervous. I'm excited and ready to get this next step moving. Once I made the decision to move forward, I have been really at peace with all of this. My surgeon has a very strict POST surgery program. Until I've lost 75% of my excess weight, I'm not allowed more than 5 grams of carbs at any of my three meals per day. He doesn't want me to have the refried Beans, the oatmeal, cream of wheat, etc. I see so much of from other people's posts. None at all. Only meat, eggs, yogurt, etc. and healthy carb veggies (if I have room). However, he's more lenient on the PRE surgery diet. He just told me that for the two weeks prior to surgery, he wants me to eat low carb, high Protein, and ditch the sods (which I've already done). He said if I could drop about 10 pounds, he'd be happy. His words...."I don't force my patients into a pre-surgery liquid diet."

    June 30th Sleevers?

Not the 30th, but my VSG surgery is scheduled for June 23rd! I'm in the last week of pre-surgery life, and I'm ready for the other side.

    Preparations for after surgery

I just got my approval today from insurance. I'm probably looking at a mid July surgery date. My head is spinning now about what I need to get done between now and then, so I'm interested in the suggestions from the more experienced people on this board, too!
