Feeling left out
TakeitorSleeveit replied to nikkimapr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My local Chinese buffett has peel and eat shrimp on the salad bar. I have found that my new tummy is very very happy with shrimp. And it's lean and healthy. -
My plan is pretty strict. The only Greek yogurt my surgeon and nutritionist wants me to eat is Kroger Light Greek. It only has 7 grams of carbs, which is way lower than any of the others. And it tastes great!

Is / was your nutritionist all that helpful?
TakeitorSleeveit replied to VSGAnn2014's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I'm almost six weeks post op. I feel really blessed that my NUT is amazing. She is available to me via email or phone, in addition to the regular appointments when I see my surgeon. With my surgical center being a Bariatric Center for Excellence, I have FREE access to her and an exercise physiologist, FOR LIFE! Anytime I want to talk in person, I can just call and make an appointment. No charge. She's been very helpful with the post surgical eating plan, as well as with my Vitamins, etc. I'm very pleased. -
In two more days, I will be transitioning to Phase 4, the way I'll eat until I lose ~75% of my excess weight. To say I'm excited would probably be an understatement. LOL Anyway, I'd love to hear some of your favorite recipes for "real" food. Thanks in advance!!

Let's share some recipes!
TakeitorSleeveit replied to TakeitorSleeveit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh, thanks! I searched at the top for recipes, but not using a specific forum. Heading there now! Thanks again. -
That sounds delicious. I used to enjoy a good salad and hope to again some day, but I could really enjoy that too.
-
I'm the same as you. No raw vegetables at all until 3 months post-op. I'm looking forward to them.

Pureed foods, really?
TakeitorSleeveit replied to Jim in Utah's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm allowed blenderized chicken salad on my soft foods phase. But you should really check with your surgeon or nutritionist to make sure about your own plan. -
Pureed foods, really?
TakeitorSleeveit replied to Jim in Utah's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was on clear liquids for a week, and then full liquids for another week before I got to have pureed/soft foods. So, yes.....by the time I got to that phase, I loved those eggs and blenderized tuna salad a whole bunch. LOL -
I don't really feel like it dehydrates me, but my surgeon said not to count it, so I'm not. I figure, extra liquids will only be a good thing for me anyway. )

I'm only 3 weeks post op, so take my reply with a grain of salt. My surgeon said it's fine to have a cup a day, but to remember that anything caffeinated doesn't count toward my minimum liquid requirements for the day. I don't really need the caffeine, so I've been having a cup of decaf daily with 1/2 of Premiere Protein shake in it. It tastes good and helps me with my protein intake.

Valuable Things you should know or consider prior to surgery and after surgery.
TakeitorSleeveit replied to Nikki Monroe's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It seems simple and elementary, but read, READ, READ!!! Research everything you can get your hands on. The good, the bad, and the ugly. And most of all......realize this is permanent. -
Boyfriend's mom doubts my potential success.
TakeitorSleeveit replied to meowmers's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've only been here for a few weeks, but I love SurferGirl.....ADORE! LOL And for the original poster, hang in there. I know it's hard not to let people like your boyfriend's mom get under your skin, but you need to focus on you and why you're doing this. And I hope you aren't doing it for her. I doubt you are. So, just use this as a little extra motivation and move on from her. I would also ask your boyfriend to refrain from sharing her negative predictions with you in the future. ) -
Excellent article to read.......

Is everyone out there on 2 week liquid diet post op?
TakeitorSleeveit replied to halfpintvsg's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yep.....seems like all surgeons are different. Mine is really relaxed on some things......like straws are fine with him. However, he's on the strict side for eating. 10 days Clear liquids 10 days full liquids 2 weeks soft foods Until I've lost ~ 75% of my excess weight, all foods I can tolerate, EXCEPT: no starchy veggies no bread, crackers, Beans, Pasta, rice, etc. no fruit or sugar no liquid calories (milk, juice) except Protein drinks as needed to make sure I get between 60-90 grams daily -
Any tips on surviving the post-op liquid diet?
TakeitorSleeveit replied to elleschaeffer's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It's still just liquid, but I really enjoyed my broth once a day. It was warm and savory and provided a change from the sweet tasting Protein drinks. I actually bought Campbell's soups and diluted them with a can of Water, heated them up, and then strained them through a fine strainer. Not the healthiest choices, but they have so much more flavor than the plain cooking broths. Also, be sure you are getting as much protein as possible with your liquids, as you are able. That will help you feel fuller longer. You can do this! It's only two itty bitty weeks. ;o) -
Medication Absorption
TakeitorSleeveit replied to anahajara's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've actually had the opposite experience. I used to take a Benedryl every night to help me sleep. I took a liquid dose of it for the first 2-3 nights after I came home, and I found that it took effect really fast, post surgery. Like in 20 minutes, I was ready to conk out. I stopped taking it (just didn't like that feeling). Ever since (three weeks post op today), I've not even needed help to fall asleep or stay asleep. Not sure if that's a result of losing a few pounds or what, but I'm happy about it. *IF* your surgeon approves it, try the liquid Benadryl. It tastes good and works quickly (probably due to the fact that it's liquid). -
I was in the hospital for two nights.....went home on the 2nd day after surgery. I only took one dose of pain meds after coming home (that first night). I was a bit sore during the day, but not in terrible pain. It was mostly painful when in the process of getting up or moving to lie down. But keep in mind that everyone's pain tolerance is different and everyone has a different experience.

8 days post op gurgling?
TakeitorSleeveit replied to meggieo79's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 20 days post-op, and mine does that too. I'm learning that these feelings/sounds (for me) are sort of seeming like my "full" signal. -
You sound like you've got a great plan. I totally agree with you.
-
With my plan, it's not necessarily pureed. But all post op plans are different. If I were you, I'd check with my surgeon and/or nutritionist. Here's my plan: 10 days = Clear liquids 10 days = full liquids 2 weeks = soft foods 6 - 12 months (or until I've reached ~75% of excess weight lost = all foods, except bread, crackers, Pasta, etc. I actually used 0% Greek yogurt in the place of light mayo. It tastes just as good and gives me another 2-3 grams of Protein. I did hit my tuna salad with a processor a couple times, just to make it smoother. Will continue that for another week or so, just to be safe.
-
I just started this phase yesterday. Yesterday, I had two over easy fried eggs (in PAM), tuna w/2 TBL of plain Greek yogurt, and for dinner I had a piece of poached fish. All went well with no issues. Today, for breakfast I tried scrambled eggs and couldn't eat the entire two eggs. Scrambled didn't cause me any problems, but they just took up more room, I guess. I'm having tuna w/plain yogurt again for lunch. I'm loving the savory tastes after all my Protein shakes being sweet for the past three plus weeks!

Eggs, Glorious Eggs......Oh, how I've missed you!
TakeitorSleeveit posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Today is my first day of soft foods. My post surgery plan included 10 days of Clear liquids, and 10 more of full liquids, and now soft foods! Yay! I was able to eat (very slowly) two eggs. It's like heaven after three weeks of nothing but drinking my day away. ) Last night was my high school reunion of 35 years. And today starts the next phase of my new life. I've never enjoyed two eggs more. LOL What was/will be your first "chewable" thing? -
WTH? All these different post op diets after sleeve! Ughhh
TakeitorSleeveit replied to daveintx's topic in Rants & Raves
Whatever the differences are, I'm going to stick to my surgeon's instructions. He's getting paid a lot of money for his wisdom and experience, and obviously, I haven't been the best food picker over the years! LOL -
Vomitting after surgery
TakeitorSleeveit replied to FireWife's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've always been prone to nausea and vomiting after anesthesia. But I didn't have any problems at all after my Sleeve surgery. They put a nausea patch behind my ear pre-surgery and gave me anti-nausea meds. They worked like a dream. Don't borrow trouble. They will take good care of you, I'm sure. Just be sure and let them know about your tendencies.
