I've been a poster child for the perfect sleeve surgery and recovery these past 4 months. Lost almost more than average, and am able to eat anything. A few days ago, I started getting more acid reflux and actual pain in my stomach, mostly my left side. I'm going through a major (good) life change that had me super stressed out this week. My surgeon thinks I'm producing more acid because of stress, and put me on carafate for 2 weeks. I'm feeling a little better today, but I'm scared. I didn't have any stomach pain, even right after surgery. I've not had one regret with this surgery, but now I'm wondering, what if my reflux gets worse? What if it does damage, like an ulcer or Barretts esophagus. What if I eventually need a revision? I knew these risks going in (I had reflux for years before), but I'm managing it now with an h2 blocker, which would have never gave me relief before surgery, so it's a great improvement. Anyways, I'm rambling because for the first time, I'm scared that this pain won't go away. I'm hoping this was all just brought on by stress.

You guys are great. Thank you! I'm feeling better these past couple of days. :-D

This is why I wrote here, to get out of my own head, and for others to slap some sense back into me. Stress will make my issues worse. I think I need to get into some relaxation techniques.

I'm having the sleeve on Tuesday. I've been in my hospital's program since March, and have lost 52 pounds. All of a sudden, I've had a hard time following my two week pre op diet. I was good for one week, and have been eating off plan all week. (3 shakes, any veg, 2 fruit, 4 oz of meat daily). I've been having food I'm thinking I won't be able to eat anymore. Now I'm wondering if I will even be able to do this after surgery. I'm sure I'm just being down on myself, but don't know what happened this week. I have an eating disorder therapist, and a sponsor in OA. I'm hoping to hear other people went through this before surgery, and was able to do the right thing afterwards. Thanks for any and all advice!

Has anyone had Gerd and gotten the vsg? My surgeon recommended the bypass because of the gerd, but said I would really do well on any surgery. I was always set on bypass because I thought it would cure my gerd. He told me he wants me on a ppi indefinitely no matter what surgery I have. So I think I want the vsg. I just want to know if anyone else got it, and your experience with gerd. Thanks!!

I appreciate all the feedback. I know I'm late to respond. My surgeon had an upper gi done, and they found no physical cause for my gerd. This led him to believe that with weight loss and stress reduction, my symptoms may not be as bad. I decided to do vsg. My surgery is January 5th. I keep researching, and keep wondering if I'm having the right surgery. I really rather have this one than the bypass, and I'm ok with having to continue a ppi indefinitely. I'm just worried what if they don't calm my symptoms, and I will need another surgery. It's a difficult decision!

What have your surgeons done in addition to your staples
tany1157 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm curious how other's surgeons have reinforced their staple line. Mine does a polyurethane coating over it. I'm having my surgery at a Center for Excellence, and feel very confident with my surgeon. Their complication and success rate are better than the national average. I've tried to look up what he uses, but can't really find anything. He also says he uses a 1-1 1/2 cm sized bougie. I would love all the input I can get! Thank you!
