  1. kell778 - you poor thing - you sound like you are having a rough time. Is the pain present all the time - or when you move/bend? Mine is mostly with the later which makes me think I have sprained a muscle or something. it is good you are going in to see your surgeon since such localized pain is not good. I would also ask your surgeon if you can proceed to something more substantial than just clear fluids. I hate the swelling too. I feel like I have a stomach of a 6 months pregnant woman! I keep hoping to pee it out - but it is slow going! Keep your spirits up.
  2. I hope everyone had a great July 4th. I personally had to avoid the social events - I don't think I could have faced any hot dogs or burgers! I admit the smell of food still makes me want to eat... So 6 days out from surgery on 29th, time flies but I am finding it a struggle. My stomach is still very swollen, however I am 4 lbs down from my pre surgery weight. I have a hellish pain on the LH side which feels like a torn muscle but I see my surgeon on Tuesday so I will follow up with him. I have been interested to hear the different nutritional guidance from everyone. My surgeon advised me to start my protein replacement on Thursday, 3 days after surgery. I managed it fine but ended up in the bathroom with very watery diarrhea (sorry if TMI). It is improving but because I also started drinking broth and ate small amounts of cottage cheese - this really helps. Sorry to ask such personal questions but did others find that once their GI tract came back to life(!) they also experienced such an effect? I guess liquids in - liquids out.!!
  3. How is everyone doing today? 4 days out and I feel I am now starting to turn the corner. sleeping better and starting on my Protein replacement. I've reduced the dosage on my pain med but not the frequency which I think helps me function. My stomach is still very swollen and full of Fluid. It may be a week or so before I start to see a change in my weight. Thinking positive and long term!
  4. Hi TeeNahh, sorry to hear you are experiencing the nausea. Me too. You should speak with your nurse or surgeon. I asked my surgeon to give me Zofran oral disintegrating tablets - they work very well for nausea (but can cause some constipation.) I was fine with sipping the Water but as soon as I was asked to try the apple juice I started to feel sick. I stopped and went back to just water. I am taking it slowly - this evening I had some chicken broth which felt good. Take it slow and at your own speed.
  5. Hi smrogg My surgery was long because my surgeon had to do a revision from previous thoracic surgery resulting from a paraesophageal hernia and diaphragm repair. (I am a cancer survivor and had bad vomiting from the chemo which caused the damage). I did not know when I went into surgery on Monday whether it would be 2 hours or 6 hours it depended on the scar tissue. I am fortunate that my surgeon is very experienced and a center of excellence he was able to revise the previous surgery, remove the scar tissue and perform the roux-en-y. I am very fortunate. I don't think my post surgical pain is worse then others and today it has become more manageable. The nausea
  6. I came home this afternoon after a 6 hour surgery yesterday. Not feeling too bad, mostly a lot of discomfort in the area of surgery as well as my left shoulder/neck. I was told this was deferred pain. Pain medicine is helpful but I have a heating pad on the stomach area which also helps. I am struggling to drink Water, I get reflux. I think I have to learn to drink much smaller volume. Does anyone who had surgery experience similar problems? I keep remembering that this is a temporary phase and I will get through this to follow my journey.
  7. Finally after months of tests, medical appointments, paperwork and hours of explaining to my good friends why I have finally come to this place in my life, my surgery is tomorrow. Check in for 5.30am and surgery at 7.30am. After fighting cancer 14 years ago, complications of the surgery, chemo and radiation caused significant side effects and damage that left me with health effects and took away ability to exercise and my love of trail running. My weight increased significantly. Failed diets made my weight yo-yo upwards. I started to withdraw, didn't want to go out socially. I've struggled to keep up a professional career, fit in plane seats, turned down job opportunities and put up with derogatory comments from business colleagues. I have everything planned, Protein drinks, non caffeine tea (this will he hard), vitamins/calcium supplements and chicken broth..... I have lists of the to-do's and not-to do's from the folks in my Bariatric support group..... Today this has been the first time I have nerves and second thoughts. I so want this to be successful, I am tired of being overweight for so many years, of it ruining my life and my health. I want to throw my BiPAP in the trashcan! My journey starts now - I am scared but oddly excited. Have others felt the same way?
  8. bbvh Thank you smrogg and all the best to you too. I have a 5.30 am check in and a 7.30 am surgery. Best wishes to everyone for a successful surgery tomorrow and to our new journey.

    2.5 month post-op update

That's amazing! Congrats on such an achievement both before and after your surgery. How do you keep focused? What is driving you towards your prize? To see the 2 number will be great!

    Sleep machine

I am sorry that you have also this bad news. At least by using your cpap you are taking a step in the right direction to managing your health. Without good sleep it's hard to find the energy to take the steps we need to in order to get healthy. When I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea 2 years ago by doc said she was amazed I was even functioning.
  11. Hi everyone. I am scheduled for June 29 too! I have a 5.30 am start and I can't wait. I am trying to get everything organized since I live alone and do not want to worry about shopping for food after. A friend is coming to stay with me for a few days. After that I'm on my own! I go for my pre op tests on Monday June 22 and some more instructions from the nurses but apart from that I've not being asked to do any special pre surgery diet. I am wondering why I didn't get asked to do this?
  12. Good luck! I'm scheduled for RNY on the 29th June so I hope to hear and learn from you. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
