May Sleevers...where are you?
Sabl3r replied to bvenegas's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
***update*** post op day 5. I went home the day after my surgery and slept most of the day. My husband andministered my meds and provided me with my prescribed liquid pain meds. That's when everything spiraled out of control. I got so sick, dry heaving all over the place, anything that came out was white foam. Something was definitely wrong. I was brought to the ER on day 3 with nausea, chest pain, sob, liquid intolerance etc. They took me immediately into a CT scan and barium swallow and ran a lot of blood work. By the grace of God I did not have a pulmonary embolism or leakage but I got readmitted to the hospital . I received a cocktail of meds that night and I awoke the next day a new person. I felt amazing and I was able to take in all of fluids and learned I can swallow a lot of liquid. I am walking every hour, use my incentive spirometer every six minutes and I'm passing gas. Yay! The surgeon came by and it was explained that I had a reaction to the pain med and I had inflammation in my diaphragm. Here I am on day 5 and I should be getting discharged. Though I felt great the morning of day 4, they wanted to keep me another night for monitoring. This whole ordeal was the absolute worst feeling ever! I'm not going to sugar coat it. Some have it easy but there are a few who will have a hard time. My suggestion, don't leave unless you are 100% percent sure you are ready. Listen to your body, the moment you feel like something is wrong, go back to the hospital. You don't deserve to suffer and the hospital doesn't want you to either. They will do everything to make you feel better. At the same time you won't get much sympathy if you're the person two rooms down from me who had their family bring them fried chicken on post op day 1. That's a whole other story.... Anyway, good luck, and listen to the staff! -
***Update*** had surgery at 8:45 am yesterday. It was supposed to be 7:15am but I got bumped. They provided me with something for the anxiety. I came to in the recovery room but in a lot of shoulder and chest pain from the gas. I was given pain meds and passed out. I awoke in my room and experienced a lot of gas pain and severe nausea. I'm not going to lie, the aftermath was very uncomfortable and I was constantly asking for pain and nausea meds. By night fall I was feeling MUCH better and was able to walk. I had interrupted sleep last night but that's to be expected when you have nurses coming in all night. Today, I feel great! I do have some soreness in my abdomen but it feels like I did too many crunches. The nausea non existent and I've been cleared to go home. For those of you about to go in, yes it will suck at first and then it gets better quick. Just rest, walk when your ready, don't be afraid to ask for meds, and moisten your mouth frequently for dry mouth. Good luck to you all!!

It's surgery day! Here it is 4am, i took my antibacterial shower, my bags are packed and now I must report to the hospital at 5:15am for surgery at 7:15. Scared? Absolutely! Feeling regret? Yes but only because I'm being wienie about it. I will post when I'm finished. -
good luck!! Give us an update when you're able to!

How have your legs changed since getting surgery? I have pretty thick legs and I've always hidden them behind pants or capris. I also have thick ankles and it kills me. Believe it or not I run but my legs just aren't shapely. Has anybody gone from thick legs to shapely somewhat athletic legs?

I'm with you on that! I was just telling my husband that I want to cross my legs comfortably too! -

May 6th here! I'm a medical professional, healthy despite my weight, but terrified. I started my liquid diet today and yes, day one has been rough! It's really put things into perspective how much my life involves food. From lunch meetings to dinner with friends, brunch on the weekends along with game night vittles and stuff to nosh on at movie nights, it never hit me until today that food is more of an activity than something to sustain life. Luckily I prefer healthy foods over junk food so I'm golden when it comes to that. I question though, if having a reduced appetite is going to affect social situations. This is scary but I'm also intrigued to see how creative I can be in those social situations. Maybe I can relay a thing or two, to my patients, you never know. Anyhow, I bid you all the best of luck on your journey! I hope everybodies surgery goes smoothly and God bless you all! <3

How has recovery been?

Did anybody experience a change in shoe size after surgery?
-
You look fantastic!!! What is you exercise routine like?
-
Yup! I'm going there.... (This is geared to those in long term relationships) Do you find yourself more active after weight loss? My hubby and I have no issues in that dept. But I've often ponder whether or not it would improve the way I feel about myself this increasing activity. Thoughts?

Hi everybody! I'm new to this forum and I'm 3 weeks away from my surgery date. I'm not going to lie I'm pretty terrified... BUT I've found comfort in all of your stories. Thank you! I just have a couple of questions , I know everybody is different but on a scale of 1-10 how bad was the post op pain? (1 being none and 10 being unbearable) Also, how many days post op did you feel you could perform a sedentary job? I will only have 5 days to recover from vsg and small hernia repair, any advice or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Glad to read this! I feel like I read more horror stories. How soon could you have gone back to work?

Thank you, this really helps me put things into perspective. Any issues getting liquids down?
