  1. I was able to return to side sleeping about 7-8 days after surgery. I had lots of difficulty sleeping on my back especially with my CPAP nasal pillows. My mouth kept opening and thus defeating the machine. Also had to prop myself up with two pillows when on my back.
  2. I weigh everything. 4oz is my limit. Then, get my water and vitamins in. I am hungry however but if I eat more than the 4oz I pay for it almost immediately with heartburn and stomach discomfort. Sleeved 4/13/15. Day 7 of 11 days of puréed protein only. Soft foods begin 4/27/15. Looking forward to that but I will still use my kitchen scale for every meal.

    First night of CPAP

Have been on CPAP machine for a year with ResMed P-10 nasal pillow. The nasal pillow is very comfortable -much more comfortable than the mask I had on in the sleep study. I was sleeved on April 13, 2015 and used the pillow in the hospital without complication. I would recommend trying a nasal pillow if it is possible in your case.
  4. Day 7 on puréed protein. I am able to consume 4oz of protein three times a day but I feel quit full by the end of the last bite. Still working on getting in 64 oz of liquid a day.
  5. Yes! At day 5 of purée stage it is uncomfortable to eat more than a 1/2 teaspoon of purée at a time for me. Then I have to wait 45 sec to a minute to take another bite. Can get down between 3-4 oz of puréed protein in about 35-40 minutes. However, for me, water is painful to get down at times.
  6. Potato soup sounds wonderful but I have a hard time getting protein in to reach 60 gr that I couldn't afford potato soup which must be loaded with carbs which we all are trying to avoid.
  7. Puréed foods for 11 days after day 3 clear iquid post surgery. Am now on day 4 /11 of purée and am tolerating fish, chicken salad, hamburger with melted cheese, cottage cheese, plain Greek yogurt, and scrambled eggs made with a little water to fluff them up.. Will try chicken soup tomorrow - just avoid the noodles. Can just today get down 4 oz of puréed protein. After 11 days I transition to soft foods for two weeks, then regular diet.

    Post op pain

Surgery 4/13/15. Morphine evening of surgery as well as catheter. Morphine stopped next day (14th). Injectable hydrocodone rest of 14 th. hydrocodone stopped night of 14th. Dismissed noon 15th. Took pain prescription 15, 16, and stopped 17th. Haven't had pain pill since. No gas pain in shoulders as some describe, but I walked the halls from day of surgery on through hospitalization and walked a mile first day home. Now, 19th, have walked three miles last two days. My pain was worse lying down. I prop myself up with two pillows at night which helps. Now just sore and no real pain to speak of. The whole process was MUCH easier than I thought it would be. Still hard getting puréed food down. Takes me 45 minutes to get 2 oz down. Water consumption is painful in morning but eases up during the day. Up to 48 oz of water a day six days after surgery. Came home from hospital 8 lbs heavier than when I went in but that disappeared in about three days after coming home.
  9. Today day 6 post op and on puréed protein 4 oz. started that on plan on day 4 post op. Hard to get down 4 oz. am managing 2-3 oz per meal and working to increase water consumption with Benifiber.
  10. Two regular prescription melds not related to VGS. 8 Chewable multivitamins a day from surgeon's office. 1 Co-Q 10 a day 1 vitamin D capsule

    Nauseas during protein?

My surgery was the 13th as well. Still am only getting about 40 oz of water and that is hard to do. My directions were different. Told clear liquids the 13th, 14th,15th and to start puréed food 16th. Today is 18th and I can only get down 2 oz of puréed protein per meal. Told to put Benifiber in water (12gr a day) which is causing gas. Am still on pain pills twice a day. I thought the pain would be gone by now. I am walking two miles a day spread out in one mile stints twice a day. Sure wish the pain would go away.
  12. Hi all, Surgery April 13, 2015 and today (April 18) the pain continues. Advised to take benifiber (12 gr a day) but it is producing gas which is very uncomfortable. Today is day three of puréed foods. Can only get down about 2 oz at a meal. How long will the surgical pain continue?
  13. P.s. I am still taking pain melds twice a day.

    Medication crushing

My cholesterol pills can't be crushed. I am swallowing them whole.
  15. Surgery 4/13/15. Clear liquids 4/13, 4/14, 4/15. Puréed foods started 4/16 and will last 11 days. Soft foods start 4/27. All surgeons are different. Second day of puréed foods and am only getting about 2-3 oz down and can only drink about 40 oz of water a day.
  16. Staples and steri strips. Staples were removed on day two post surgery and told that steri stops would come off naturally. No belly band.

    Any April Sleevers?

Home today. Surgery was Monday. Day two of Clear Liquids. Walked evening of surgery three rounds around ward. Tuesday walked 30 rounds in three stages of ten rounds. Wednesday, release day, walked a mile in neighborhood. Gas pains are pretty severe and burping a lot. Walking definitely is the key to recovery. Haven't been able to get down more than a few ounces of clear broth. One more day of clear liquids and then 11 days of puréed food. First check with surgeon May 6. This is workable! Water retention is a problem. Came home 8 lbs heavier than when I went into the hospital.

    The journey has begun!

Hi Tim, My surgery is in two days and my weight is similar to yours. I started out at 268 and lost 18 thus going into surgery at 250. I am twice your age (72) and I had to do some convincing for the surgeon to do the sleeve on me. I will be interested in your progress.
  21. H Matt, My sleeve surgery is in two days. Your post helped me understand what is ahead. I lost 18 lbs during the two week pre op diet. Started at 268 lbs and am now 250. It helps to hear what other men have experienced. Keep us updated on your progress.
