    Medicare

Sleeved 4/13 with Medicare primary and Blue Cross Blue Shield supplemental. Surgeon said Medicare didn't need prior approval if records showed co morbidity with one extra condition because I had a BMI <40. My BMI was 38. I have not had a single piece of paper from Medicare indicating they were not going to cover the surgery. My supplemental has already paid their share. I received that notification yesterday.. A friend had bypass 18 months ago under Medicare and she never received a bill for any part of the surgical costs.

    Any April Sleevers?

Sleeved April 13. Five weeks out and feeling terrific. Everything gets better a week or two after surgery. Fellow ganders are here to help each other on this journey. Welcome to a new life!

    Confession

You have the power to get back on the horse! Start out with your pre op diet. Two protein shakes a day and use a kitchen scale to weigh 4 oz of protein for your third meal. No snacks, no carbs, no sugar, no fruit, no vegetables, no dairy. Reset your body for at least two weeks then start with the week two diet plan of weighing 4 oz of protein three times a day. Still no carbs, no dairy, no fruit, no vegetables. Do that for two weeks then start incorporating 1/2 C low carb vegetables ONCE a day for two weeks. Still no fruit, no carbs, no dairy, and NO SNACKS. Three Bariatric vitamins a day during the entire time. Walk daily for 30 minutes. You can do this and you will feel much better about yourself. You have lots of support here and we want you to succeed!
  4. I have to weigh every meal otherwise I would eat too much and I'm only five weeks out. That scares me a lot! I don't feel much restriction at 4 oz of protein which is the limit set by my doctor. I could eat more and that is terrifying to me.
  5. Am on week five post op and still feel cold. Wonder if this will go away. Always wearing sweatshirts and have furnace set at 70 degrees. Chicago has been in the 50's and I'm freezing. Even taken to wearing socks to bed.

    Scrambled Eggs!

Scrambled eggs mixed with a little cream lighten the eggs. This was on my puréed diet.
  7. Surgery was April 13 and today, nineteen days out, I am on soft Protein. Am getting between 60-70 grams of protein containing 700-800 calories per day. Also getting in my 64 oz of Water and walking 2 miles a day. In two days I get to add 1/2 C of cooked vegetables. First follow up appointment with the surgeon is 5 days away. This process has been much less stressful than what I imagined it would be. The first two days out of the hospital I wondered if I had made a huge mistake. I couldn't get down much water but as the swelling diminished that improved. I tried to follow the post surgical instructions to the letter and that proved to be an asset. My message to prospective sleevers is that the process is worth the effort and that your concerns prior to surgery are not nearly as bad as what you experience after surgery. Good luck to all those beginning the journey.
  8. What are the symptoms of a gastric leak in sleeved patients?

    Gastric leak symptoms

I'm doing fine. The pain went away during the night. I see the surgeon for my first follow up appointment since surgery this afternoon. I will know better after I see him.
  10. RaginCagin There was a typo in my original post. Waiting is 30 minutes before meal is what my surgeon wants not 3 minutes. I agree that 90 minutes after a meal is a long time and is very hard to adhere to.

    Any Illinois Sleevers?

kk-Bear, my first appointment where he approved my surgery if I passed all the permissions from Cardiologist, psychologist, and pulminologist was about six weeks before surgery. From my paper signing day and doctor review there were 4 days before surgery. The hospital experience was excellent and I had very caring nurses. I actually walked three rounds around my floor the evening of my afternoon surgery. By day two I was able to make thirty rounds in groups of ten rounds. Walking was the key to keep the gas from settling in my joints which I'm told is very painful. Day I came home from the hospital I walked a mile with minimal discomfort. I've followed BMI's regimen to the letter. They really know what they are talking about. I'm in day two of soft Protein and 1/2 C vegetables. I hope you have a terrific recovery. Best of luck in your journey

    Any Illinois Sleevers?

Sleeved 4/13/2015 at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox. Dr. Christopher Joyce was my surgeon. Excellent surgeon and superb hospital. Recovery has been very smooth. First check in with the surgeon tomorrow.
  13. Four weeks out from surgery and I still have periodic tenderness around that site but it is much much less profound than week one post surgery. I still have a small bruise that is yellow now in that location. The rest of the incision sites have healed well. This too will pass.
  14. Walmart carries Premier Protein.
  15. Nausea only on day two after surgery. Dairy products were out for me until week six so I couldn't mix milk with the protein powder. One string cheese stick per day was allowed at week three. I start my forth week out tomorrow and the program is running smoothly. I still have one spot of pain between two of the incisions but I think that's where muscle was cut.
  16. Tiredness for me at three weeks out comes primarily after my 2 mile walks. I too had a terrible time consuming water after surgery but ne day in week two suddenly water consumption was much easier. The swelling in the stomach must have gone down significantly in week two. I still have to rely on Miralax once a week however to have some bowel regularity. Your symptoms will diminish greatly with time. Walking every day seemed to be the most important thing to me besides getting in 4 oz of protein three times a day as well as working on increasing my water consumption. Best wishes to you for a smooth recovery!
  17. My surgeons instructions were and ar no fluids 3 min before and 90 min after a meal. I find that if I try t take a sip too soon after eating I get a shar pain in my stomach

Gastric Sleeve and E. Coli :)

You did the right thing. Heal your body first and then get back on the routine. Hope you are fully recovered soon and I wish you much success in obtaining your goal. You and I are at about the same weight and I am encouraged that you lost so much. I am only three weeks out from surgery however.
  19. Help! Today is day two of the soft food stage for me after 11 days of puréed foods. I am faithful about measuring with the kitchen scale 4 oz of Protein three times a day. I am getting in my 64 oz of Water in each day and am walking two miles a day seven days a week. In three days I've gained almost a pound since finishing the puréed stage. That scares me! I do have one sugar free pudding cup as a treat and one string cheese stick a day. Should I grow back to one or two protein Meal Replacement shakes and have one soft food meal a day? I need advice from veteran sleepers. My surgery was April 13, 2015. I have lost 27 lbs since my pre surgery weigh in. The weight loss is going MUCH slower than I thought it would.
  20. Make that "sleevers". Darn auto correct error.
  21. My surgery was April 13. Am on my first day of soft food after 11 days of puréed food. Everything has worked smoothly. First follow up with my surgeon on the 6th of May. Walking 2 miles a day.

    well, no wonder!

Age 72 and had sleeve surgery 4/13/15 and recovery has been smooth. I feel great and have lost 26 lbs since consultation and first weigh in.
  23. Age 72 and had sleeve surgery 4/13/15. Easy recovery so far. Lost 26 lbs since initial consultation in March of 2015.
  24. Age 72 and had successful sleeve surgery April 13, 2015. Recovery has been a breeze so far - much easier than I thought it would be. My surgeon at first only considered banding but after personal research I asked him to reconsider as I explained my concerns with banding. Luckily, he listened to me and after careful consideration agreed to do the sleeve.
