Anyone else have something planned as a reward for hitting their goal weight? I have my eyes set on a new Miata (Club Spec). A little expensive for a present to myself, but I also see it as motivation. Been in the market anyway for a second car.

Started to come down with some form of cold, and after researching it appears the general consensus is that Tylenol Cold products are okay. I'm a little over 6 months out of my RNY. The Tylenol Cold/Head Congestion Severe is working, but wow -- it upsets my stomach. Just curious if anyone knows which of the ingredients could be upsetting it?

Weight loss is definitely slowing down from the first 2 months (I'm a little over 3 months post-op), but I'll take it. Down exactly 75lbs as of this morning. I'm only weighing myself once a week because I don't like seeing the scale fluctuate (well, going up) throughout the week when I weighed in every day. Come Monday mornings, I'm super anxious to get on the scale at 6:00AM, but am always happy to see it trending down. I've also noticed I seem to be able to eat much more, but I've been told since I'm much more active now (strength training + cardio nearly 5+/week) that it's okay to eat a little bit more to keep my energy up. Decided to treat myself with the Whispbar rails and a Yakima roof rack for my bike since I'm riding it again. Can't wait for it to arrive so I can install it and try it out.

Just takes time. It took me a while before I could get to 64oz of just water alone. I was instructed 64oz of clear liquids, but I always wanted it to be just water, not counting anything like broth. Now I can hit 80oz daily with no problems. Just have to keep a water bottle nearby. I use one with measurements on the side, 20oz, and just keep taking swigs from it regularly.

How much of a Quest bar are you eating? I used them all the time prior to surgery, and I still have a few boxes left, but haven't tried them yet post-op. Even now, at a little over 3 months post-op, I would probably only eat maybe half of one at most. Not just because that's all I'd be able to eat, but because I'd want to make sure it wasn't going to cause any problems.

Maryland/DC/Northern VA Hospitals

Dr. Moazzez is excellent. Dr. Pourshojae (from the same practice) did my surgery, but Dr. Moazzez visited me often to check up, as did the NP, Kim. You'll be in good hands! -
I'm just over 3 months post-op (RNY). Had one NASTY gout attack a few weeks after surgery, and I understand this is not uncommon. I get in approximately 80 oz of water a day. This morning I woke up and the right side of my foot has a flare up. Since we cannot take any NSAIDs, are there any OTC medications recommended for this? Don't want to have to go on a prescription if I don't have to, since this is not a common occurrence for me.

OTC recommendations for a gout attack?
F4T-TRAP replied to F4T-TRAP's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Wound up going to the ER since none of the urgent care places seem to be helpful. Prednisone 40mg/day and Norco (I think that's the name) for pain relief. I took the Prednisone just a few hours ago and it seems to have helped already. -
Great job! I have a ways to go, but with the progress I've made already, I've already started running again, have a personal trainer, and I'm getting my bike ready. I feel like I have much more self-confidence now too -- I can't stress that enough.

Loose Skin, Plastic Surgery and Insurance Probably Won't Pay
F4T-TRAP replied to Dabliss111114's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
It varies with everyone's insurance from what I've researched. Some have a "no way" policy, and some will pay if it is limiting your abilities/impacting your life. Obviously I hope that once I get to a comfortable weight, if I have to, my insurance will cover it -- if I need it. But if not, I will gladly pay out of pocket for it... begrudgingly. -
Chili, meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and salmon were mine.

Is not wanting to eat at all normal
F4T-TRAP replied to Phosphate's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't feel like eating for a few days. But that feeling will dissipate eventually. It's rare I get "hungry" now 2+ months post-op. I also set reminders on my mobile phone to remind me when to get my Protein shakes, Vitamins, and meals in. Otherwise I could go half the day before I even realized I haven't eaten. -
Today is the big day!
F4T-TRAP replied to Phosphate's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Definitely not a waste of money. Are there downsides? Yeah, just like any life-changing surgery... but it's definitely for the better. I don't regret having my RNY done. -
After only a 2 lb weight loss last week, that is me. Luckily I noticed the clothes getting saggier.

Doesn't happen to everyone. I've had some minor thinning, and picked up a bottle of Biotin vitamins yesterday. Going to give that a shot. As I recall, the general consensus is a vitamin deficiency can cause it.

Depends on what your surgeon says. They cleared me after about 5 weeks, if I recall correctly. Unfortunately, my knees are protesting!

Anyone else in a stall?
F4T-TRAP replied to Stephanie Ged's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Only lost 2 lbs this past week... and 3 lbs the previous. I'm eating ok, have really only cheated once. Frustrating, but hey, a loss is a loss. And this is the lowest weight I've been at in years. I felt much better last night because multiple friends told me my clothes were hanging off me. I hadn't realized it, so I went through my closet and wound up with 3 trash bags full of clothes to donate. Much better now. -
Nice find... I actually buy those individual shakes from Costco to take to work and on-the-go. So far, I like all 3 flavors I've tried (chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry).

Pre-Op confusion
F4T-TRAP replied to ShrinkingButtercup's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Follow the surgeon's instructions, in my opinion. They want you to get lose weight to make the surgery easier, and also prepare you for eating better in general. -
Feeling blah....
F4T-TRAP replied to christina.banks's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It gets easier. I didn't want to even drink after surgery -- I just didn't have the urge even, but eventually it subsides. How long does it take you to drink half of a protein shake right now? -
Congrats on the weight loss! The lady that has cut my hair for the last... I don't know, maybe 8 years -- said she noticed my hair has become thinner since the surgery. However many here have said the hair loss stops eventually. I sure hope so.

Quest Bars were my go-to bar prior to surgery. I still have a few boxes left, but am scared to try them since I'm only a little over 2 months out. Might try a few bites this week now that I think about it.

Anyone else's post op like this?
F4T-TRAP replied to Big Opie's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I also saw everyone had varying diets -- and just wound up trying to stick the best I could to my nutritionist's recommendations. I figure everyone has different plans, bodies, and doctors, and I am by no means an expert, so I ultimately decided to just follow what my bariatric team instructed (usually). -
I found my chest was really itchy -- and even 2+ months out I still get a little itchy -- though not as bad as just after surgery.

Food Network/Cooking Channel
F4T-TRAP replied to muzical1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did the exact same thing post-surgery. My girlfriend noted that all I watched was Food Network for a while.
