Hi.  I'm Phyllis!  I am 65 years young, hopefully 65 in the new 50!!
I originally had lap band surgery, 2007.  I was able to keep the band for 6 years and finally had it removed.  There were side effects, the hardest was the acid reflux.  I also started to learn how to "eat around the band" and slowly started to gain back so of the 70 lbs. I had lost.  I thought once I had the band removed, it would be no problem for me to maintain my weight.  After all, I did it with the band, why shouldn't I be able to do it on my own.  Well, the answer is "no!"  I was obsessed with my weight gain trying every which way to lose weight and found it very difficult to do.  I decided to start my new journey by looking into gastric sleeve.  It actually took me 9 months to go through the process of meeting with the doctor, going to the seminar, meeting with the nutritionist for 4 months, pre-test, ultra sounds.  At first I received a call from the insurance company telling me I have NOT been approved.  There was part of me that felt RELIEVED.  The decision was taken out of my hands, it was made for me, and figured I will find another way.  Maybe a prescription diet pill!  The next day I received a phone call from my doctor's office telling me they appealed it and I had won and now I have been APPROVED!  I was very scared to have the surgery but also knew that if I didn't go through with it I would continue to gain weight and continue obsessing about why I didn't do the surgery.  So, March 12, 2015, I was the first patient of the day for surgery.  First patient eliminates the stress of waiting to be taken.  My surgery took 1 hour 20 minutes, all done laparoscopically, everything through the belly button.  I remained in the hospital for 2 days and then went home.  It has now been one month post-op, 18 lbs down, I'm in the 180's and very excited to be seeing a difference and doing the work.  The surgery is an extreme tool but it is still up to me to do the work.  Small portions, chew, chew, chew, slow, slow, slow.
I'm so grateful that I have this new chapter in my life to look forward to.  I wish everyone all the best and please feel free to ask me any questions, pre or post op.
