How could I have been so stupid?

I discussed what happened with my doctor and nutritionist yesterday at my 6 week check up. You were right @@blashlee, I probably had a temporary blockage. I had not idea -- I don't remember being told about that. I agree with you @@Tomojac, I will miss corn this year, but believe me it's not worth it! But the good news, this shouldn't be forever.

    First Appointment Today

Welcome! I had a bypass on May 21. I had wanted to have a sleeve, but my doctor strongly recommended the bypass for me because I had a hiatal hernia. You're smart to keep your options open until you hear what your doctor has to say.
  3. I am finding this thread a little late, but it's nice to find so many people at the same stage after the same surgery. I had by bypass 6 weeks ago today. I have been doing phenomenally well until this week. I think I got a little too cocky with new foods and didn't think about introducing veggies that are naturally high in sugar. Two days ago I had peas and suffered a lot after just a few bites. And then last night I had a terrible episode after two bites of corn on the cob. I should have known better. Today, I'm taking a break and having just yogurt and protein shakes.

No energy 3 weeks post op

I'm six weeks out. My energy level goes up and down. Don't expect your energy level to rise in a straight line. As with most things in life, we all have our ups and downs.

    Am I really that vain?

Someone noticed! A friend at work who I haven't seen in a while said, "Something's different about you. Have you been losing weight?" I was thrilled, but of course didn't want her to know how over the moon I was by her comment. I simply said in reply that I've working hard at it and it was nice of her to notice. I've been smiling ever since!

    Am I really that vain?

Wow, you're all being so nice to me! Too bad I don't work with any of you! (FYI: I have been wearing well-fitted clothes (clothes that had previously gotten too snug).)

    Wich is better

I was all set on having a sleeve. The by-pass seemed like too much rearranging of my insides -- I wanted simple. Then I found out that since I had a hiatal hernia, the sleeve was not a good idea -- essentially, I was told that I would likely always suffer from heartburn and have to take medication. Well, my long-term goal is to get rid of all my medication (except for vitamins). Plus the doctor convinced me that it has a long history and is considered to be the "gold standard" when it comes to WLS. I'm now 5 weeks out and am doing much better than I thought I would at this point.
  11. When I started this journey in January, I decided I was only going to share with my husband, 2 teenagers, and sister. But now that my surgery date is a week away and I've started my pre-op diet, I think I need to tell at least one friend. I need someone to talk to about this. I wonder if my reluctance to share is because despite my rational argument that having WLS is a positive thing, I'm still feeling like I'm somehow a failure by not doing this on my own without surgery. I know, I know (I can hear you now) - I would be a failure if I did not have WLS. But still, the feeling persists....
  12. @@sleeve32 - If you don't want to talk about it, that's okay with me - what are your reasons for keeping it quiet?
  13. I'm halfway through my first day or a week-long pre-op diet, and I'm already struggling. All I can think about is how hungry I am. I know it's suppose to improve after a couple of days, but how will I make it that long? I don't mean to sound too dramatic. I will make it -- this is soooo important to me. But it makes me feel better to whine :-)
  14. Today is my first day of my pre-op diet, too. Time can't pass quickly enough for me!
  15. My surgery is a week from tomorrow - May 21. I'm excited and nervous! :-)
