Since I can't have any liquids orally and am just on IV fluids until the leak test, I guess it makes sense that I would be terribly thirsty. But I haven't seen anyone else mention excessive thirst on here. Even when I wet my mouth with the swab I'm still horribly thirsty. All I think about is being able to drink. Anyone else feel this way? If so, does it go away when you finally are able to sip?

Awwww, I'm so sorry! How stressful. I know, having to work the night before stinks. I got off at 10pm last night. The good thing is that you'll have the best sleep ever the next morning. No matter how old we (or they) get, we still need our parents sometimes. I'm sure they are happy to drive you. There is a lot to look forward to. Don't let this get you down, ok?

It makes it so much better when you deal with great doctors and staff, doesn't it??? Good luck with your surgery in June! It's gonna come really fast!!! :-D -
Amazing place with amazing doctors and staff. This whole process has been so easy. And they have done all of the work for me with the insurance company. They provided me with the psych eval and the nutrition consult with their own doctors, so I didn't even have to worry about finding them on my own. I can't believe how easy this has been! My surgery is scheduled for tomorrow morning at Bayshore Hospital. So excited! I have Dr. Greco performing the surgery, but there are actually two surgeons in the room for the procedure. I couldn't have dealt with a better place!

Yay! That's so exciting. And don't be nervous, you'll pull through it like a champ! You would think I would have been nervous, but somehow i wasn't because I was just so happy to be getting it and everyone I dealt with kept my mind at ease. The whole experience has been rather pleasant, to be honest. The pre-anesthetic was great. They gave me midazolam and induced with propofol. So I was comfy, relaxed, and then I was out like a light. It wasn't the least bit scary. So go into it thinking it's going to be a really nice experience and you'll see how much better that makes it. You'll do great!!!! Let us know how it goes!

It went very well! So far a very pleasant experience. Thirsty as heck though. I can't drink until after they check for leaks tomorrow. I just have those sponges to wet my mouth. Other than that, no pain other than the gas in the upper chest and shoulder, but on a dilaudid pump. Everyone at this hospital has been so supportive! The patient advocate was just sleeved January 5, he's 87lbs thinner. He brought me in pictures of himself. He's thin...I would never have guessed he had one! He brought me a birthday card and happy birthday balloon for my new beginning <3 -
Mine is the 13th too! Tomorrow morning! I can't believe it! It doesn't feel real!

Unsure of what to do...
Jaimianna79 replied to Jaimianna79's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thank you so much for your input, everyone! So...after consulting with the surgeons, I've decided to go with the sleeve initially. Perhaps the weight loss alone will improve the acid reflux. My Barrett's will be closely monitored with regular scopes. IF - worst case scenario, i do experience worsening acid, I can be converted to the RNY. I'm comfortable with the sleeve for now...and having it revised in the future might even be an added bonus if I end up one of those people who have severe hunger return after a year or two. So - I pack my bags tonight and have my surgery in the morning!!! :-D -
Unsure of what to do...

Sigh...I called the bariatric center to ask them about requesting a change of procedure. I'm hoping it doesn't delay things...I was so ready for Monday. And I'm terrified of the bypass, although I know that the RNY will likely solve the acid issues completely. -

What complications has she had from her Barrett's? Mine is very mild. I'm just afraid of making it worse. Obviously, being overweight helped to develop it to begin with. I'm just terrified that the acid reflux is going to be horrible after the sleeve, making it worse. -

I honestly may have said ok to the full bypass, but that means resubmitting for a whole new procedure to insurance. I've also only had issues with acid reflux (that I've noticed) at higher weights...and I've always had bad habits with eating and then going to sleep. I'm terribly frightened of the idea of a bypass though. The sleeve seems so much safer. -

Finally told someone & OMG, smh! :(
Jaimianna79 replied to SeahawksGirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's the worst...I do think the issue for a lot of people is fear. And in some cases, it's jealousy. Sometimes people get used to you as the "fat friend" and don't want it to change. My answer when people try to say that it's risky or bad for my body is this: being obese for my entire life is an even bigger risk." And when they try the typical, "you can lose weight naturally, you've done it before" line, I say, "yes, cumulatively, I've probably lost 5 times my body weight over the years. And I've gained it back. Losing weight isn't the issue. Losing it all at once and not gaining it back IS." It's funny how people "know someone" who had it done and gained it all back. Some people just do their best to discourage. Tell more friends. I decided to tell friends, family, and coworkers (kind of had to due to time off) and most have been super supportive. I think in general, the supporters outweigh the naysayers! -
