  1. All of the "stupid" questions that you all have mentioned is exactly why I haven't told many people. My immediate family and a few really close friends know and that's it. It's amazing when you tell someone you are considering it, they automatically have a horror story for you. I don't need to hear it and it's not like I don't know that some will gain their weight back. I've researched this for quite some time. I'm not embarrassed about having surgery, I just feel that it is a personal decision that I made with the input with my immediate family.

    50lbs gone!

    Awesome job!
  3. I had my surgery on spring break and though I was tired and not back 100%, I was able to make it and sit through all 5 of my classes. I also have to walk between classes which total about 3 miles. I didn't have any complications, but i think if all goes well, it's doable! Good luck! By the way, if you really feel awful they have to accommodate you, I'm sure your surgeon will give you a note. Good luck.

    ANY KAISER PERMANENTE SLEEVERS?

I have Kaiser and I'm in Northern California. I had my surgery 4/2/15 and from start to finish, 5 months. Orientation class in November. Appointments with the psychologist, dietician and surgeon in December, met my goal wait set by surgeon in February, additional appointments in March and surgery beginning of April.

Weight Loss Stall at 2 weeks Post-op

That is one thing I wish I knew before my sleeve. It is totally normal but incredibly frustrating! It happened to me as well, it took two weeks to get it moving again, but it's moving down!! I'm 6 weeks out!

    Any April Sleevers?

Hi Carmen606 Well, prior to surgery I was a fast eater. I was talking to my sister while I was eating my egg and not being very mindful of my eating. Let's just say, I won't do that again! It was painful. I took about 1/2 hour to pass before I felt right. My instinct was to take a drink of water to wash it down, which I didn't do because I would have made it worse. As for how I'm feeling, I've been pretty good. No nausea at all. I feel pretty good about that. I had my surgery during my spring break and went back to school at 10days post op. I walk a lot on campus and think I over did it on Monday. By days end I had logged 5 miles on my fit bit. On Tuesday, I had zero energy. I laid around all day. It was like I hit a wall. I called my nutritionist and asked her and she felt it was a combo of things that zapped my energy, one she felt was low blood pressure. I was on a blood pressure pill for my diabetes. My dr took me off and I feel a million times better. If I had more stamina, I'd say I was back 100%. But it's really more like 85%. Prior to surgery I had been exercising regularly. Running about 3-5 miles a day. I even did my first 5k the Sunday before surgery. I think that helped me rebound so quickly. I have been waking a minimum of a mile each day, and three days a week between 3-5 miles. It takes me a lot longer than before surgery and that frustrates me. I hope you get back to feeling yourself soon. As far as ketosis , I'm not sure what that feels like or is. I know when you eat a lot of protein your body goes into ketosis, but what does it feel like. If it's a nasty metal taste in your mouth, I've got that off and on! I hate that taste. Today was my first day of soft foods. ( first two weeks were protein drinks only) I can have eggs, beans, cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, quinoa, cheese, peanut butter. There is a few other item, but can't remember off the top of my head. My goal is 40 grams of protein, it was 30 the first two weeks. I had a hard time getting it with the shakes because I was so turned off by them. Today I did it! I've gotten my fluids in most of the days, and I know that helps. Pre-op I lost 40lbs and I have lost another. 19 since surgery. It's crazy how fast it falls off. I had a post op yesterday and the surgeon was quite happy. I'm curious to follow your journey as well, it's interesting to see how everyone's experience is different. So far, it's been ok for me. The first few days were the hardest. I'm looking forward to seeing just how the path unfolds for me. I look forward to seeing yours as well. I'm not hat great at this site yet. Not even sure how to edit my profile or add friends. I'll figure it out though. Hope all is well for you, Kathy G

    Any April Sleevers?

Hi Camen606 I had my sleeve April 2, I'm on week 3 diet which includes scrambled eggs (tuna next week) I agree with you about the protein shakes! I am so OVER them. My surgeon said that I may have to supplement my protein with shakes to get all my protein. That did not thrill me. Anyway, I did something stupid today, I ate one egg in probably 5-6 minutes. Not a good idea, it was very painful! Lesson learned. I think I feel better and sometimes forget that I had surgery. This week is cottage cheese, yogurt, beans, cheese, eggs, and a few other things I can't remember, probably because I don't like them anyway. Good luck on your journey, I like hearing what others are doing that had the surgery around the same time. No one I know understands my choices, so I have found this page very helpful!
  9. @rin52 I totally understand your fears and concerns. I'm a three time chicken out for the surgery. I kew I needed it but I have young children and I really couldn't imagine how their lives would play out if something happened to me. I kept trying to do it on my own. Then last year my mom was preparing for surgery. Her plan made her have a mammogram before surgery due to her age, well sadly she found out she had breast cancer and unable to have the WLS. My mom has had diabetes for year. The day if my moms mastectomy, my sisters and I all went and had mammograms and full check ups. Well I found out I had diabetes! That for me was a huge wake up call, I too do not want to have a chronic illness. I got serious about weight loss and exercise and again got back on track to have the surgery under my insurance plan. I lost more than what I surgeon asked for and lost 40lbs before surgery. Many family and friends were surprised at my decision to have the surgery. I heard, " you're doing so well, why have the surgery." I realized that I needed to see this through to the end. I had my surgery two weeks ago, I did have regrets the weekend after. (Mostly out of frustration and pity for myself) but the pain has subsided and the scale has been favorable. I have lost 19 lbs in two weeks! I am full of hope that I will finish this and lose the weight. Best thing, I'm no longer on my diabetes medicine! I also lower my risk of cancer. That thrills me to all no end. The right decision is the one that's best for you! I wish you luck on your journey. Kathy

    HAD SURGERY 3/31/15

It has gotten so much better. I'm two weeks today and pretty much pain free. The only thing I'm struggling with is stamina. It takes me a bit longer to walk these days and it's frustrating. I think I forget that I had Major surgery two weeks ago and should lighten up on myself. I'm at least waking 2 miles a day, it takes me about 45 minutes. Which prior to surgery took about 1/2 the time.
  11. Casey, I felt the exact same way at day 4! I'm only at day 10 but it does get easier. I had my surgery 4/2 and had to contend with Easter on4/5. It was difficult to be around all the celebrating, I was in pain and I was having a " what the hell did I do" moment. It has gotten better each day. It has been difficult watching my hubby and boys eating and only able to drink a 2 oz shake! I am dealing with it and figuring out how to balance it all.

    Any April Sleevers?

Hi there, I was April 2, I have been walking about 1.25 miles each day, after about day 4 post op. Took a little walking hike of 3 miles at the Calaveras Big Trees which was a bit challenging because I didn't have the stamina. I took it slow and enjoyed the beautiful scenery. Looking to do more as well, but don't think I'm ready to start running just yet. I had got into running the 6 months prior to surgery and ran my first 5k 4 days before surgery.

My surgery is Monday April 6th

I just had my surgery 4/2/15. I was scared and nervous. It was a huge decision. I did everything my surgeon asked of me before surgery. I lost 40 lbs in 6 months and started walking and exercising regularly . I even ran a 5k the Sunday before surgery. I think all of the preparations before have paid off in recovery. The gas pain was intense, but I would make 4/5 laps at oug the hospital floor every two hours while awake. Day 4 I even walked 1.25 miles. It was at a much slower pace than prior to surgery, but all the moving as helped move the gas. I can honestly say I feel like I'm 85%. I have a hard time getting the protein and water in, but do my best. I want the best weight loss possible and make this all worth it . Of course it was hard on Easter only 4 days after surgery watching everyone celebrating with food. I had a little cry and picked myself up and went for a walk. Saturday and Sunday I was kind of emotional and regretting what I had done. Pain sucks, but every day it gets better. I can't wait to have this be a distant memory, till then I just keep moving!

    April 1st sleevers

I'm right in here with the two of you. I'm 4/2. Now that most of the pain is gone I am doing better at drinking my shakes and getting water. I have done mostly water, but crystal light with some crunch ice is feeling like a blessed treat. I was walking/running before surgery and did a 5k the Sunday before surgery. I think the past 4 months of exercise has really helped me get up and get moving.

    HAD SURGERY 3/31/15

I was sleeved on 4/2/15. I'm looking for a buddy too. I just found this app and it has been great reading that others are going through similar things. I am feeling great, have already started waking and the past two days walked 1.25 miles. It did take me longer than usual, but I'm moving. The only thing that concerns me is that it feels like my stomach is spasming off and on all day and I get a pain in my chest. It happens wether I'm drinking or not. No nausea, but I feel like I have to breathe through the pain. I don't think I'm taking too big of sips. Any suggestions? If that would go away, I'd be feeling almost back to normal. Kathy
