funny, but serious, female question...lol
Bubbletoes replied to glitterpockets's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was a 44/46 DDD. 2.5 months later I'm a 40DD and I'm hoping to lose even more boobage. Blouses fit so much better and my chronic back pain is gone! -
things i wish they would have told me...
Bubbletoes replied to glitterpockets's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wish somebody told me I'd pee blue for a few days after surgery. My surgeon did the leak test right after surgery with dark blue dye and it took several days to get it out of my system. Blue pee was quite startling at first! -
Protein Bars?
Bubbletoes replied to Luv`n_all-of_Me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I bought some different flavors of Quest bars a couple of weeks ago. I haven't been able to get past the first bite of any of them. That was my first and last time I'll bother with protein bars. -
Has AIC (Diabetic lowered/got normal nos) totally gone after sleeve surgery ?
Bubbletoes replied to shirleyjohn001's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm a type 1 diabetic and have had it for 42 years. It has wreaked havoc on my body because I didn't do my very best to control it at all times. I have heart disease (1 coronary stent 5 years ago), retinopathy and have to see my retina specialist doctor every 3 months as I have retinal hemorrhages and other damage, stage 3B renal failure, neuropathy (no feeling from my toes to my knees and tingling in other parts), etc. I could go on and on. I also let myself become obese which didn't help my situation. I was sleeved on May 20th and since then my A1c's have been 6.1 and 6.2 due to my modest weight loss (45 lbs so far) and my very strict new way of eating. My usual A1c's averaged 8-10 and sometimes higher, which ruined my organs and body. I will always have to take insulin, but my dosage has come down so much (I take long and short acting insulin) that my endocrinologist is beside himself with this news. I feel so much better both physically and mentally because I now feel like I'm not on death's doorstep. I'm thrilled with my new life and lifestyle and wish I took control of this year's ago. Take your diabetes (type 1 & 2) seriously. You can save your own life! -
I drink a chocolate Premier protein drink for lunch every day. I'd never reach my protein goal for the day if I didn't (75gm). I like it very cold so I pour it over ice. I don't like the vanilla or strawberry, but I've never liked those favors. I buy mine at Costco @ 18 for $24.99 and sometimes they are on sale. I was using Body Fortress vanilla protein powder before my surgery and made some great shakes with it and different SF syrups and PB3, but after surgery I just didn't like the stuff. Don't stock up on anything in excess because you might reject it after surgery. I bought unjury chicken flavor and only used it a few times and also unflavored which I mix with yogurt at times. I have more protein powder mix than I'll probably ever use!

I'm hoping to follow in your footsteps, Ann. To keep my previous post from a boring list, I left out a lot of stuff. I go to the gym 4-5 days a week for at least an hour and a half each time, and walk in my neighborhood every evening. I also take Miramax every other day. I drink my 64 oz every day plus more many days. Haven't eaten an Apple with skin yet, as Apple's aren't my favorite fruit, but I eat pears and kiwi fruit often. I took a probiotic capsule everyday before surgery because I've always had a problem, but not to this extent. I was a little nervous about taking a large capsule but I guess it's time! Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm on it!

I am two months out today and I'm still on that ugly constipation wagon. I've tried everything short of a stick of dynamite and I am not a happy camper. I take benefiber and 3 stool softeners every day, milk of magnesia 2-3 times a week, I've added ground flax seed, many veggies and a few fruits to my diet, I eat prunes and when I finally can't stand it I rely on a Dulcolax suppository for relief. If I'm lucky I "go" once a week. There has to be a better way! I've lost 45 lbs and I feel so much better already but this problem is really a downer. My NUT says add more fruits and veggies and beans to my diet which I've done, but until my innards start cooperating, I feel like I'm doomed! (Yes, I tried the aloe Vera juice... Can't stomach it. I've tried everything!). Thank goodness I work from home because this problem is not one I'd deal with well at the office! ????

Let's talk about sushi
Bubbletoes replied to T.Whitaker's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love sushi also and that was the only thing I thought I might miss if I could never eat it again. At 5 weeks out I did try sushi with my husband. It went down fine after being sure everything was well chewed. I lean more towards traditional sushi with eel, tuna, sea urchin eggs, etc, so I can't imagine a California roll giving you any problems. I was more than satisfied after eating two pieces, but I stayed away from the wasabi and chewed a few pieces of ginger which worked well. Egg drop soup is a good source of protein if you like that, too, and goes down easily. -
I'm 5'8" and my fantasy goal weight is 150, but realistically I would be fine with 160 which was my teenage weight many years ago. (I'm 64). I've been in sizes 20 to 26 and back since that time. All I know is the sizes must've changed drastically because at 150-160 I was the "fat girl" at school and wore a 16-18. My body is weird and always has been. I have skinny legs and arms, but my middle is a huge globe and my boobs have been XXL forever. I look like a baked potato with toothpicks for legs and arms. My surgeon even commented on my skinny legs last month at my one month post op checkup. That's where I've lost my weight. ????. I will be thrilled to be in onederland, but I want to run and jump and play with my grandchildren without huffing, puffing and asking for help getting up off the floor (or heaven forbid) that beanbag chair! I started at 276 and am hovering around 233 now. I feel better already but I want to feel super better! ????. At least I don't feel like I could die at any moment like I did a few short months ago. I was sleeved on May 20th.

When do our "insides" heal?
Bubbletoes replied to simplyamy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my sleeve on May 20, and had 6 incisions due to extensive lysis of adhesions. I feel all healed on the inside but since I'm a type 1 diabetic, my external incisions are still in various stages of healing. I'm a very slow healer. Remarkably, my larger incision is almost completely healed, but several of the smaller ones are still scabby. Annoying? You bet! I'm just happy I'm healed on the inside. I'm also happy to say that my insulin has been cut way back and my A1c done since surgery was 5.9! I've never had one that low in more than 45 years!!! I thank my tiny tummy for helping me lose weight and stay in control every day! -
Not losing very much
Bubbletoes replied to her1981's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've always been a slow loser and I thought the sleeve would turn me into a mega losing machine. Well, my body is the boss of me and it said, hahaha, no way! I was disappointed, but I've accepted the fact that my pounds like to hang out with me as long as possible. (Yes, I work out at the gym 5 days a week) If I'm lucky, I lose a pound a week. I weigh once a week even though I try to stay off the scale completely. I'm happy because I'm losing, no matter how slowly. I spent 60 years building this pile of fat and I'm sure not going to lose it in a day or a month or even 6 months. It's happening and that's all I want! I work from home but go in to the office 2-3 times a month for staff meetings and yesterday I got lots of compliments on my weight loss, so I know it's happening. Some good things just take time, work and patience. -
What size is your sleeve?
Bubbletoes replied to Jennifer Rogers's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All of those male surgeons will tell you that size doesn't matter. ???????? -
I didn't have to take a test of any kind. My insurance required two appointments, each with a separate psych person. It was basically exactly as Psychsnob described above. Both wrote letters of recommendation and it was a pleasant meeting both times.

I was in my 3rd week when I started puréed food and tried scrambled eggs. I mixed my egg with ricotta cheese or with cottage cheese before cooking (which I still do). It keeps the eggs light and fluffy so they are easy to get down. Added bonus: extra protein!

When does the tiredness end?
Bubbletoes replied to DojiGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The day after I had surgery, and before I was discharged home later that afternoon, a therapist from PT came and made sure I could do the everyday things I needed to do at home. That included taking me to a hospital stairwell and practicing walking up and down those stairs. I live in a 3 story house so it was very helpful! -
Hooray for all you losers! I'm almost 7 weeks out and although my pants are getting baggy, my blouses and shirts are ridiculously huge on me. I was going to shop for new blouses over the weekend when I remembered my "other" closet. That's where I would hang clothes that were too tight, plain old too small or would be too small soon (the rate I was gaining was horrendous!). I went "shopping" in my other closet and came out with 10 new or almost new blouses and a couple pairs of slacks! Some had tags still attached!????. I saved that money I was going to use for another time when I can spend it on REALLY small clothes. ????????????Woohoo!

I have been taking pictures along the way and they really help. I feel just as fat as I was +40 lbs ago, but when I look at my pictures, I can see the difference which is a great ego booster. I still have a long way to go (about 85 lbs) so I'll keep taking those pics until I'm at goal. Then I'll let other people take my picture which I never let happen now and in the past. ????

Almost 4 weeks post op i think I'm in a stalll!
Bubbletoes replied to purdy1408's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Stalls happen! Then they break. Then they happen again and break again. Keep doing what your plans says to do and be patient! Your patience will be rewarded... Until you hit the next stall. ???? -
What does a hernia feel like?
Bubbletoes replied to no onions's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That feeling you have could be due to nerve endings repairing themselves along with other healing processes your body is going through. Don't worry about the little twinges because everyone has them. Worry about unrelenting pain, extreme nausea and the like. That's when you need to talk to your surgeon or be seen in the ED. If you are still nervous about your twinges though, by all means call your surgeon. A little bit of reassurance goes a long way! Hope you feel completely better soon. -
Welcome! Sounds like you are off to an excellent start! I'm 6 weeks out from my sleeve and I feel great. I want to reassure you that it can be done because it happened to me. I had massive adhesions, had a hiatal hernia repair and the sleeve all done laparoscopically. I did have to sign a consent for open surgery "just in case". The surgery took four hours instead of one, and I had 6 incisions instead of 3, but I did well enough to be discharged home the next day. Keep on doing well, and your surgery date will be here before you know it!

That's the way to think, Toler! I can tell you I have been on countless diets throughout my life and I always started with resolve and the best intentions that each time would be the last. Unfortunately, I started out good, but at some point fell by the wayside, unable to resist temptation and would give up. After my sleeve, I still have days when I want a cheeseburger, a donut, or a handful or two of M&Ms, but now I have this brand new superpower: My sleeve! I just can't physically do it because my sleeve won't let me indulge. One bite too much and I have pain or nausea, two feelings I hate. It warns me what will happen which I never had in my previous diet riddled life. I have head hunger on one shoulder, but the thought of pain and misery if I cheat on my other shoulder always wins out! You will see and you will use the tool (yoursleeve) every day. Do this for yourself. This time you can do it because you will have an inner strength in that tiny stomach that will see you through!

Today I'm six weeks out after having a sleeve and hiatal hernia repair. I feel great and have lost 40 lbs which makes me super happy. I went back to work after 3 weeks , but since I'm feeling so good and am so energetic, I've decided I'm going to retire early next year and enjoy myself! My husband is all for it so I'll be a slim lady of leisure next year at this time. Life is good!

I like Fair Life nonfat milk and use it exclusively. I love the creamy taste and even better, it has a really long shelf life so I don't end up throwing half a bottle away. The extra protein is a bonus. I use it to make my one protein shake a day, and with my bowl of protein Cheerios in the morning. I'm not one to just sit and drink a glass of milk, but this stuff could change my mind.
