Wow!! A picture is worth a thousand words. Thank you for sharing...you are an inspiration for us all!! -
Bariatric nurse823- I am guessing you are a nurse? So am I. I am an Acute Pain Service Nurse based out of surgery. I assist with a variety of nerve blocks placed for pre op pain control and follow the patients post op. I am 54, will be 55 by the time I have surgery. Looking forward to a healthy lifestyle!!

After over 1 year of waiting...
laura4923 replied to jjbowersock's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats on your approval and approaching surgery date!! Way to stick with it!! I agree that your preop liquid diet should help clear your system out. You could gradually work towards that by say having a Protein shake for Breakfast instead of your usual diet until you start all liquids. Best wishes on your journey!! -
Couldn't find where to post my wt from yesterday- 220.6

Unflavored protein powder- no Sucralose or aspartame
laura4923 posted a topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I am looking for an unflavored power that can be added to other drinks/puréed foods. Any suggestions? Needs to be free of artificial sweeteners. Can tolerate stevia in small quantities. -

August 4th surgery day....
laura4923 replied to flipper72's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a August 25th surgery date! The last of my 6 month preop appointments is on August 4th. They will submit to insurance for final approval!! I'm so excited!! It feels like a long wait. I have used this time to research, join a great support group and change my diet. Best of luck to all of you!! -
Congrats! You are a handsome young man!!
-
Laydee_G I absolutely love your post...reach out, don't eat it out. That is brilliant!! It really hits the nail on the head. I am in my 4th month of my preop diet as required by insurance. While I've lost 19#...I have days where I struggle to not exceed my 1200 calories. The head hunger is very powerful. I am going to reach out and not eat it out as I head towards my August 25 sleeve date. Thank you for such an inspirational post!!

I say "go for it"!!! How exciting!! You can pave the way and help so many others with your story! I wish you the best whichever you choose to do!!
-
Lainie- I'm am glad to hear you are doing well! I had my 3 month appt with my surgeon today. He was very happy with my progress...-19# according to his scale. I have a surgery date of August 25th pending final insurance approval which will be submitted the first week of August. My 4/6 month clinic appt is Wednesday. Psych evaluation and exercise required classes completed. I'm getting closer!! I can only imagine how excited you are after such a long preop journey! Wishing these days speed by quickly for you and that you feel energized!!
-
KC- Best wishes for you on your surgery this week Friday!! How's your preop liquid diet going?
-
Lainie-how's the liquid diet going? I bet you are so excited!! I am very happy for you that you are finally in the home stretch!!
-
Let me know how you do. It looks like you would be so miserable from your pictures ????. Wishing you a speedy recovery so you can enjoy your weight loss without being in an antihistamine coma or on steroids!!

I am going to vote for purrigo pigmentosa. It seems this rash is common when looking at other places where people are in ketosis. The treatment is with one of two antibiotics- minocycline or doxycycline. Your case seems to be persistent and severe. I would take the info on the prurigo pigmentosa to your surgeon or pcp. They should be able to give you a script and get you feeling better. The ketones in the blood stream effect the blood vessels and make your skin erupt in this rash. I am a pain service nurse and am on schedule to have surgery the end of August. Best of luck to you!!

Can you take a picture of it? It doesn't sound quite right...is it hot to touch or draining anything?

Anyone have low grade time post-op?
laura4923 replied to need change's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Your surgeon usually gives you instructions at discharge as to what things to call for. Most often it is a temp > 101. It is normal to run a low grad temp...it is your body's natural response to the inflammation caused from surgery. You can always check in with the nurse at the Dr office and let them know what your temp has been. -
Low grade fever okay post-op?
laura4923 replied to need change's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Low grade fever is normal after any surgery! It is your body's response to the inflammation caused by just having most of your stomach removed. Follow your post op instructions and call if >101 or if you have foul drainage or red, angry looking incisions. Hope this helps...I'm a nurse and these are the instructions we give our patients at discharge. -
I think sleeve vs bypass seems to be partially based on the amount of weight one needs to lose. Greater amounts of weight seem to have the bypass surgery.

Sorry to hear about all the negative responses people can get. I will be sleeved in August and one of my sisters is very much against this surgery. Other than my sister, the response from friends and family has been very positive and supportive. It seems that obesity is an epidemic that everyone has an opinion about. I feel like I'm tired of living in the shadows and if asked, I will be open about my journey. I want to help take away the stigma attached to WLS. I tired of being ashamed and I am excited to pave the way. The support group and exercise classes that I have attended have been so helpful. I've met people in every phase of their journey. I am so grateful for this opportunity and if I can help just one more person emerge from the shadows of obesity by knowing my story...I am glad to help!!

LainieG- so glad you started the 50's group and that it is finally taking off! I'll keep you and others in my prayers that you get your surgery dates soon!! I am 54! Will be able to submit to insurance the first week of August and will turn 55 on the 13th. I hope to have a date sometime around my birthday!! I am so excited to keep making the healthy changes I've started. I am inspired every day by the hard work and dedication that you all share. Thank you for paving the way!
