Pre op diet concern for post op patients
TXMissy replied to kell778's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There are so many factors, what shake are you using, what are you mixing it with? Preop was hard and it changed the sounds my stomach made. I burped a lot. Not sure why. I'm was worth it though. -
So I am 2 months post op, HW 324 SW 304, I am 257 as of this morning, losing 67 lbs. so I have been following the diet and I do really good one week and lose 5 lbs then the following if I lose a whole lb I am doing good. That was last week. So Between Friday morning and Monday morning I lost 5 lbs. I did nothing different and was even bad and had a bit of cream off my son's piece cake. I have been keeping an average 75 g of protein, most days it's more than that. My caloric intake is right at 900 daily. On the weekends I am a little more active, I don't count I just eat if I'm hungry. I stop eating after I feel like I can feel food in my pouch. I'm just wondering if maybe during the week I'm eating but not enough calories. It just boggles me how my weight loss fluctuates. I know everyone is different, but still causes confusion in my head.

I'm so sorry, I don't even know what to say. I am also 10 weeks and getting a lot of different foods in. I keep introducing as well. I hope you figure it out.

Yes Virgina, There Is a Bypass Claus...
TXMissy replied to The Candidate's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Congrats to you!! Not to rush, but may it get here soon!! -
I went in wanting the sleeve. My surgeon suggested by pass for several reasons, I was already border line diabetic, my reflux and because he wanted to see me lose more weight than what he expected I'd lose with the sleeve. He thinks I'll lose 90% with the bypass be 60% with the sleeve. I've known many people who got the sleeve and they have done well, but the fight to lose the 40 lbs is present. It's a true struggle.

Three days post-op - pressure?
TXMissy replied to Amylou's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Once I was put on nexium that feeling went away. Check with your dr, -
I know that my victories have come in other forms not necessarily the number on the scale. I feel better, that's #1. My breathing, my mobility, my sleeping, all have improved. Seeing it in my clothes and shoes. Yes I'm down a half size. I wouldn't get down on yourself because in my eyes, I have fought my weight my whole life. It didn't just come up and I said I'm going to have surgery. I have never lost 2lbs in the same week with the exception of giving birth. The most weight prior to surgery I was able to lose was 31 lbs in 6 months. This journey of learning how to eat, changing my activity and seeing the difference is worth it to me. I have stopped focusing on the number and just focusing on how happy I am with my changes. If I was counting and placing and planning everything I put in my mouth I would be crazy. I know what's right from wrong and I work with it. I'm still working hard. Continue the hard work you will see the results!

Why does your taste change after surgery?
TXMissy replied to RuxieGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have never liked sugar free or diet foods. I still don't. No crystal light, sugar free jello or pudding is for the birds, stevia sweetened forget it. So I drink water, occasional green tea or other herbal tea and unsweetened almond milk that is almost too sweet for me. The other day I snagged a french fry from my husband, I bit into it and was so disgusted that I had to spit it out. I'm not sure how the surgery has changed things but I like it! I'll take a salad any day and a plate of veggies. -
It's perfectly normal. It does get better. You are so limited on what you can have right now. Once you start eating you start finding things that will satisfy the cravings. I was dying for something sweet yesterday. One of my coworkers had a browning (still firm not completely brown) banana and was about to throw it away. I told her I'd take it. I ate about half and it was so delicious. Probably more carbs than I needed, but compared to what the alternative could be it was great.

Walk, walk, walk!!! I know my gas was worse going into the 2nd week. When I went for my first follow up the surgeon's best advice was walk.
-
I know my paperwork said that if I live 30 mins or more from the hospital that I needed to stop and walk for a few minutes each 30 minutes. The concern was blood clots. May take you longer to get home, but your health is most important.
-
I too had my heart set on the sleeve. My dr was the one that preferred the rny. He said he would do either, but he felt I would be happier with the long term results of the rny. I made my decision the day I scheduled surgery. I'm very happy with my decision!

I was told no straws for 3 months. I still drink from straws. I drink more water that way!

I haven't broken out, but I'm so dry. I have been using my son's eczema cream. You can find it at Walmart, its called Ceravae. It thicker than lotion and in this house we use it like it's going out of style.

HELP...Weight loss stall at 3weeks post op...
TXMissy replied to RobSpana's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would just stick to it, it sounds like you are making amazing strides. Just keep doing what you are doing. I always feel like i should be smaller than what I am, but I when I stop looking at the scale and tags in my clothes and just thinking about how I feel it amazes me. At the 3 wk post op mark, I stopped losing weight, I felt bloated and at about 41/2 weeks, something changed. I woke up and jumped on the scale. Down 3 lbs. I could see it, I could feel it. You may not see the physical changes because you may still be swollen some. It will all come together as long as you stick to your plan. Getting a little discouraged is natural, but don't lose sight of your main goal! -
Stage IV Diet aka Real Food
TXMissy replied to KDM74's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been on "normal" food for about a month now. I can't eat apple peel, it kills me. Celery, asparagus or other stringy hard veggies I'm scared to try. I have eaten spinach, cabbage, and squash both raw and cooked successfully. I have not tried any pasta, bread or rice. I was told its carbs I don't want. I have been focusing on my protein so lots of egg, cheese, fish, chicken and turkey burger patties. I do love me a good salad, the one thing that I had for the first time is grits. I was scared it would not settle well, but it did. It was fantastic! -
HELP...Weight loss stall at 3weeks post op...
TXMissy replied to RobSpana's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So if you are suddenly walking could it be that you are developing muscle, burning more calories so you actually need more, still not taking in enough protein. I know it seems like we do everything we are told and we just have to tweak what works. Whatever you do, do not give up!! 38 lbs is a lot if weight and it could be your body adjusting. How about your water? -
I still get hiccups all the time, I'm 9 wks postop. Some are worse then others. It can be embarrassing at times. I just hold my breath.

what foods are you all eating 2 months post RNY?
TXMissy replied to MamaDDDD's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh and lastly, I don't eat much at one sitting. I think it's difficult for my husband to watch because I get excited about trying something new and then after 3 bites I'm done. He is adjusting, but he ask if I'm sure 20 times. -

TXMissy replied to MamaDDDD's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm eating great in comparison. I'm 9 weeks post op. I do a lot of chicken, hamburger/turkey patties (usually about 1/3 to a 1/2)and fish. I eat soft cooked veggies (cabbage, squash, carrots, beans) and the only raw veggies are lettuce (salads), tomatoes, cucumbers. Eggs go down well (boiled or scrambled). Fruits bananas, strawberries, grapes. Dairy is well tolerated so I incorporate cheese, yogurt, but haven't been brave enough to try milk. I am sticking to my almond milk. If I go out to eat it's very difficult. I feel it's like I am being difficult. Many restaurants are ok with selling me a kid's meal so pairing a bunless burger with a salad or beans works. It's gotten easier. Quest protein bars are ok, I like the pb&j one and the white chocolate raspberry. I keep trying different things. Apples and drier meats are a no go. I have found a new love for sweet potatoes. -
Humane way to take crushed pills?
TXMissy replied to meyouus's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Can you crush and put it in some yogurt? Anything to not have to taste the drug. I never had to crush any pills. Of course my thyroid med is a liquid pill like vitamin e. -
Feel lost...pleas help!
TXMissy replied to tanya131313's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Most of my meals consist of chicken or fish. Breakfast is usually fat free yogurt and a few sliced strawberries, lunch usual my deconstructed sandwich, no bread or chicken breast with a small side salad (very small), dinner is a little more adventurous I still do chicken or a turkey patty with fresh steam veggies. I'll add spaghetti sauce or cheese to change flavor. Ive been on a regular diet for a while, but still keeping it simple. Lots of boiled egg whites, avocado and cheese. These are used as add in and help amp up my protein. Thank goodness to the person who recommended Quest protein bars. I love you because they are fantastic. -
Hunger, Cravings, etc. Post-Op
TXMissy replied to sarahbee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I still crave. I just know that I can't have and if I allow myself a bite of this or that it only validates me to have more. I have gone into a retaurant that is more of cafeteria style that lays out all their desserts to grab. I didn't want them. I was more like a kid in a candy store when I passed through the salad area. I still crave, but my taste are changing. A few strawberries sound better than a chocolate sundae to me. A fresh peach satisfies the want for peach cobbler. The results I have seen beats the cravings. -
I won't lie, I too had cold feet. Of course I was 8 days into my preop liquid diet. I bared myself of excuses. I was scared. The day I went in for surgery I just knew I wouldn't go through with it. My surgeon walked in to talk to me preop. He said if you follow the plan legitimately and your health doesn't change at all, I will give you back every dime you and your insurance company have paid me to do the surgery. He said its normal to be unsure, to get cold feet. I'm a few days from being 2 months post op, I have lost total 61 lbs. my blood pressure is well within normal range, my thyroid has leveled out, I most importantly have lost weight. I feel like a teenager again.
