    Advice please!

I'm just about 3 months out. I feel great, look great, but my eating has changed. I avoid buffets because there is no sense in it. We eat out occasionally. I am able to digest salad so that's a huge help. I like soups, fish, shrimp, veggies. I pretty much eat what I want, just smaller portions,

    CARB CONFESSIONS!

I just try to find replacements. Who knew a handful of grapes was as good as a chocolate bar. Nuts are a great replacement for chips. It's baby steps and telling myself I can't have something is easiest. Good luck to you, I know you can do it!!

    Getting the protein in

Beans also have lots of protein. I'm finally able to eat nuts. Avocados have protein. I have found that keeping in a protein shake helps or a protein bar. I prefer premiere shakes and quest bars. I can't stomach steaks or dense meats. So that rules out protein from those sources. Good luck to you, I know you will get there.

    One month post surgery;mixed emotions

First off I want to say congrats!! I think the first month was the hardest. You are battling enough to figure out your new journey, you really just need that time to start building up your new eating habits. You have come such a long way!! Great job!! I have heard nasty comments, but I just walk away. I'm sure a lot of it was said out of envy. I know that before I ever considered surgery, (Years ago) I looked down on it. My sister had the sleeve done. I felt it was the easy way out. Seeing the results though I have changed my opinion and have gone as far to do it myself. You said she has considered it, but there is a reason she hasn't. It's all vanity for her. You can't listen to her or anyone else. Do it for yourself. There are to many people willing to support you. I know because I'm one! Don't let other people get in your head!!
  7. My periods have never stopped, but were very mild and light. After surgery and 40 lbs, my periods were horrible. I should have about 10 more years before menopause. I can't wait. I hope for your sake they don't return.

    Am I being unrealistic?

I don't look. I wore those shoes too long to make decisions for others. My father is a diabetic. He tries. My mother doesn't eat anything green, ever. They are good southern people who like their food chicken fried, smothered or covered in bacon on the nights it isn't texmex. I know what my goals are and I have lived with them ridiculing me and making comments of "do you think your better than us". The answer is no I don't, I love my parents very much. I don't want my children to say the things about me that I just said about my parents. I want to be able to walk up a ful flight of stairs without feeling like I'm passing out. I want to be able to chase my kids when we play hide and go seek. I made the change for me. It was what I wanted, not what anyone else did. I can't say it's for everyone. I went and bought my daughter a cake for her birthday and ice cram. Did I eat it, nope. I had a hand full of grapes and no one questioned me. They had plates covered in cheese and sauce at Olive Garden the other day, I had salad and soup. I still enjoyed their company. Stop looking at their plates. It will make you wonder. You can't make them change.
  9. So I completely understand. My husband was very unsure of where to stand. My mom has and still is the biggest obstacle. She is very unsupportive. She doesn't understand the struggle I have been through my whole life. Often telling me how bad my breathing was or asking what size I was in now. Knowing that my cholesterol was cobstantly increasing, my np rising, my sugar at nearly diabetic levels, my thyroid not producing, etc. seeing the weight fall off I think she is starting to come around we shall see. My cousin. Where do I start. Perhaps my toughest critic. She is a body figure champ. Much like a body builder. She didn't want me to have surgery at all. She has given me Protein shakes, Vitamins, diets, exercise plans and meal plans. I have done them all, sometimes gaining weight. I've been accused of not trying from her. She has been a perfect size 0 her entire life. She doesn't know the struggle at all. I just steer away from her because her comments have really killed me. My coworkers have been my biggest fans. I didn't expect it. They are constantly checking to make sure I'm drinking my Water, that I am moving (walking, getting up to file) and making sure that I am feeling good. One of my coworkers probably needs the surgery more than I did. She perhaps has built the strongest relationship through this. Hitting every little milestone she sees as a victory. They are all telling me how great I look. Asking how I feel. I love it. I think the biggest part of my journey is having a support system, I don't know if I would have made through the first few weeks had I not had my coworkers. They have become more like sisters to me. My husband is coming around. I'm very impressed that it has motivated him as well. He has put down the dr. Pepper, cut back on his eating, even started walking with me. He has had positive results. I would definitely find a local support group. Attend the meetings, I think you will find you are not alone.

    Why Bypass?

I went in with the intentions of getting the sleeve. My surgeon wanted rny from the beginning wanted to do rny. I like you was not sure which to choose. He told me that changing my eating habits, my lifestyle (exceeding) and my mindset would definitely help me to lose weight. He encouraged the rny because I had begun having terrible reflux. After doing research and talking to several people who had both I decided that rny was best for me. I have my days, but I wouldn't change anything. I wish I had done it sooner.
  11. I have steered away from corn because I was told that I can't really digest it. Other veggies with tough skin or are stringy I don't try. (Asparagus, celery unless it is finely cut or cooked down, cabbage has to be well cooked) I have not tried peas.

    Quest bars?

I'm a little over 2 months and I love the peanut butter and jelly one. I can not eat the whole thing in one sitting. I do about half at a time. I also drink the premiere strawberry and creme shake. Again only half a day. It's a great way for me to boost my protein intake. I've never gotten sick from either.
  13. Went swim suit shopping. Grabbed a 20 for kicks and it fit. It didn't fit like I wanted it to, but it fit comfortably and that is all that matters. I started my journey squeezing into a 24. I haven't fit into a 20 in almost 18 years.
  14. It will happen. I remember getting home and getting on the scale only to be disappointed. I weighed more after surgery than when I went in. By two weeks post op I was down 18 lbs. it happens really fast. Im just under 2.5 months postop and I have lost 71 lbs from my heaviest weight.
  15. Guy Fieri is my weakness. I watch Diners, Drive Ins and Dives on Netflix constantly. My husband hates the man. He jokingly ask if I watch it to see him or the show. I am not much on the food network other than that. The week I was home postop I watched my 600 lb life on TLC. Talk about being horrified. I think it scared me into sticking to the diet.
  16. I know that all my discomfort did not just secretly disappear. It took lots of walking and moving to get to all the pain.
  17. I was uncomfortable but no real pain. I was on my little morphing pump, but pushed it like twice mostly so I could sleep. I lost that the 2nd day and then was put on Tylenol 3. I was sent home with some but didn't use it.

    Weightloss before surgery

I list 20 lbs on the liquid diet. It was worth every bit of it because it gave me the will power to get through those first few weeks.
  19. I've made adjustments and I'm losing weight. I'm down a total of 69 lbs, but the one thing I have noticed is if I turn too quickly or change directions too quickly it's almost like my body isn't programmed to handle less weight than its use to. I finds myself almost falling on my face if I stop too quickly. I don't feel dizzy at all, just a little unbalanced. Anyone experiencing this?
  20. My bmi was at 56 preop. I recovered rather quickly and have had very few incidents where I have eaten too quickly, the food did not agree (apple peel and drier chicken) or I felt I could eat for days. Once I moved to a regular diet I definitely felt a difference. About 10 weeks out I felt like I had a limit and I could feel it. I eat very slow because if I don't I get full too quickly and my stomach hurts. I've had several people tell me that I made this surgery look too easy. I think it's more that I have followed what I was told to do and continue to do so. I'm terrified of dumping. I only drink water, unsweetened almond or an occasional green tea without sweetener. I feel fantastic!!
  21. I feel silly at times. I'm glad it isn't just me. My husband laughs at me. I'm not the most graceful person to begin with so this must be comical.
  22. I was told that if I was on any extended or time release meds to talk to a physician about changing. The meds just are absorbed in our systems the same way nor do they stay in our systems very long.

    Hairloss and Hairstyles

I am going into my 10th week. My hair has been good, but I'm super worried. I whacked about 8 inches off when I hit 50 lbs. I have not noticed my hair falling out yet. Im so worried. I have a hard enough time as I am already hypothyroid. I have a friend who sells it works. I may try the hair and stuff.

    I want to eat

You are so close and if you have gotten this far you can do it! I think that first week is the toughest. It'll get easier. I can sit down now with a pie right in front of me and it doesn't phase me. I haven't had dessert win yet! Just remember you are going to be so happy with the results. It's coming!!
  25. I used unsweetened almond milk as well. If you have the option, definitely try premiere shakes. They are really good. I love the strawberry crime one personally. I was on bariatric advantage preop. They are so great and boy did I struggle. Once you get through the surgery you realize and appreciate the challenge!! Good luck!
