It does take time & sometimes several fills. My dr is being aggressive, and I'm feeling restriction. I have 8cc's in an 11cc band. I also think everyone is different. I am having some mild PB's since my second fill when I eat or drink, so there's a fine line between no restriction and too tight. Try to be patient and get filled slowly. Remember to eat slowly, especially after a new fill. Good Luck...

Could someone please take a moment to please describe to me what "PB's" are and "sliming". I don't know if I've experience this or not, but I've heard about them many times on here & my Dr. has mentioned them, but I didn't ask what they were or what to expect. THANKS!!!

Do you burp more now that you are banded? (non-productive, just air)
dreamer1068 replied to dustout's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have the opposite problem. I can't burp well at all. This happened for about 2 weeks post-op & then again for 2 weeks after my 1st fill. Today is the 1st day I've been able to burp, but it's nothing like before. They are definately from deep down, and I have no control over them. I can't force a burp or hold one in anymore. They just happen :wink2:, and it's embarrasing. My restriction has also decreased already. I felt great restriction for a good week after my 1st fill, but I've noticed I'm able to eat more then I would like to at this point. I think I need another cc or 2 for better restriction. In my opinion, the lack of burping is a sign of restriction. Who knows though, this is all new to me!! Banded 11/20/07 1st fill 1/8/08 19 pounds lost to date...I think I should be loosing more...:wink2: -
I was able to eat about 75% of my pre-op diet again 3 weeks post-op also. That came to a quick end w/ my 1st fill. My doctor filled my band about 1/2 way the 1st time, and I'm feeling great restriction right now. Don't worry...I think what you're feeling is normal and common for a lot of new banders...I've read it a lot on here. It could also take a few fills to get good restriction unless your dr. is aggressive w/ your fills. Good luck!!

Exited but what about Carbonation?
dreamer1068 replied to 2band2008's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My surgeon stressed "NO CARBONATED" beverages at all! Her team of nurses & nutritionist have also stressed it repeatedly. The carbon can cause gas problems after your banded & especially after fills. It can also stretch the part of your stomach above the band causing you to feel less restriction and eat more. I don't know if this is true or not, but I'm avoiding it. I had trouble belching after my surgery for about 2 weeks, and I'm having trouble again after my first fill this week. I don't want to add anything that would increase the need for belching that's for sure!! I used to drink diet soda non-stop, but I haven't had any since my surgery 11/20/07. I've lost 19 pounds to date. It took me a while to get over the "no soda", but I'm used to it now. Like I said, this is just what my team of doctors have stressed to me all their bariatric patients. Can't confirm if it's medically true or not. -
I'd call your Dr. if I were you. I think you should be able to drink more then sips. Some people can only do "mushies" for a few days after a fill. If this lasts more then 3 - 4 days I think you should call. Just my opinion based on what my Dr. told me. I hope this helps a little.

Has Anyone lost weight and felt restriction after 1st fill?
dreamer1068 replied to swstacey1977's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had my first fill on 1/8. It's only been 2 days, but I'm definately noticing a difference. It feels the same as I did for the 1st 3 weeks post-op. I'm only able to eat small portions, but I get hungry every 2 - 3 hours. I lost 2 pounds already this week. I had been at a plateau since the middle of December. Weight loss to date is only 17 pounds, but I didn't have to do a pre-op diet. My Dr. told me to expect slow weight loss with this procedure. I did cheat over the holidays, but I'm pretty much back on track this week. I have 6cc in a 11cc band. -
I had my lap-band procedure on 11/20/07 w/ an 11cc band. I had my 1st fill today 6cc's. The fill was super fast & didn't hurt a bit :whoo:(just in case anyone else is as nervous about fills as I was)! My question is that I constantly have the feeling as if I need to burp, but I can't. Has anyone experienced this? This is similar to how I felt for the first couple weeks post-op also. I'm able to drink no problem, but I'm afraid to eat much. I had a 1/2 bag of weight smart oatmeal for lunch which made me feel full, and I'm holding it down no problem. I'd like to hear advice on eating just after a fill.

1st fill tomorrow, SOOO scared !!
dreamer1068 replied to Mrs SmartyPants's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I just had my 1st fill today, and I didn't even feel it. I hate needles & was so nervous. Getting blood taken stings more then this did. It was a breeze. Try not to worry. Hopefully your port is in a good place. It took 30 seconds to do my fill. -
Hungry? When did everyone's hungry start once they were banded?
dreamer1068 replied to parrot0927's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on 11/20. My hunger returned after about 2 weeks. My surgeon said to increase the amount of protein I'm consuming, and to always remember "protein 1st". My first fill is on 1/3. I hope this helps with the hunger. I'm also on the mushie diet. I have found that if I eat more protein that I'm fuller longer. My portion size is definately a fraction of what it used to be, but I tend to get hungry about every 2 - 3 hours. -
How Long? (Recovery Time)
dreamer1068 replied to HeatherA's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on 11/20. I still get port pain if the move the wrong way, and I still can't sleep on the same side as my port. I felt well enough to return to my desk job about 8 days. The gas pain bothered me every now and again, but gasX and walking helped with that. I've lost 15 pounds to date, and I can't wait for my 1st fill. I would suggest allowing for 2 weeks off, but you can probably go back quicker if you feel ok.
