    Getting Enough Water

As far as really drinking too much Water, I talked to my NUT he said there is no upper limit if you are exercising and sweating a lot drink as much as you need. I heard about that, that was just stupid on everybody involved. When I was in the Army on training days it was not unusual for me to drink 6 or more gallons of water a day, but, I was sweating my ass off in southern Georgia in the Summer. So heat and humidity play a big part of how much you should drink as well.

    how much do you eat?

Yeah I agree, now I make deli meat roll ups instead! I have upped my protein over the last week and my workouts as well. Body is changing but the scale is slow. I do not mind that at all I am focused on lower body fat percentage over the number on the scale! It is a good thing when I fill the sleeves and chest of my shirt and not the belly! Hahaha.

    Getting Enough Water

Thank you for yoir feed back but that is info I already knew. I don't let myself get thirsty I drink constantly. I know the symptoms of dehydration as I am a former athlete, Soldier and now an athletic coach. My curiosity is, is there an upper limit on the amount of water we should consume daily? I on average drink around 100oz a day, but yesterday was closer to 200oz just under 2 gallons.
  4. I started with walking as well, my wife and I would go to the mall or some place with scenery and people watching. Before my surgery we would go to Vegas and have to drive everywhere as I could not walk very well due to an injury. About a month and a half post op and 30+ pounds lost we went to vegas I was able to walk a little more. At 5 months out and 100lbs gone I was able to walk everywhere. My daily workout is I walk about 3 miles and 3x a week I run on the elliptical about 2-3 miles at a 7 min mile pace (something I could not due before). When I started 5 min on it and I was done, now I am up to 25 min running. I have not tried running g on the treadmill yet but will be soon! I also weight train 3x a week alternating between upper/lower body workouts, also do core work with my gym days. Plus I am very active with my athletes I coach, and when they have "punishment" exercises I normally do that with them as well. I did not really start weights till 6 weeks post-op and took it kind of slow the first couple of weeks. Now I am Full throttle in the gym. I put in my head phones with heavy music on and go into my "zone" and go at it.

    how much do you eat?

So just a couple days after posting about eating subway and some of the bread, I can no longer tolerate it. Took two bites and had to pull off the meat. No bread for a week now my only carbs are in veggies now. I think that is a good thing because now I can get more protein in. It must have been just a "phase".

    New "addiction"?

I have always loved the gym (former football/baseball player) even when I was big after my playing days I loved lifting weights! When I lost weight and got in shape to join the Army I was a 7 day a week exerciser! 6 days of P90X and also running or lifting weights on top of the P90X! I was bench pressing over 400lbs and my squats were in the high 400s as well! I Joined the Army weighing 272 but was at 14% body fat, after my injury I was not able to lift any more because of the pain, which caused me to gain 125 lbs! Since my surgery I have lost that 125 and then some, I go to the gym 3 days a week and work out with my baseball players I coach! They hate when they get punished and I do the exercises with then b/c they know they are working till I get tired! I can't lift as much as I used to but I feel the strength coming back fast! The difference in the gym now is I see my muscle tone developing whereas before I would just get "big", so, that just motivates me more. This is all to myself better but it is also pretty awesome that my wife can't stop rubbing my chest and arms. When we are out I know another female is has been "caught" checking me out b/c the wife has a big grin on her face and snuggles a little tighter.

    Getting Enough Water

So today it was 95 degrees where I live. Before surgery when I was out in the heat I would chug water, but, now I can only sip. But, still managed to down 1 1/2g of liquids today. Soy silly question is we are supposed to get at least 64oz in a day is there a too much point?

    Random every day questions/thoughts.

Why do we drive on parkway but park on driveways? If 7-11 is open 24-7 why are there locks on the doors? If you are not supposed to smoke at a gas station, why do they sell cigarettes? Why do states that only allow you to buy alcohol in state stores, sell mixers in the grocery stores?

    Weight loss

I am 6 months PO and have lost to date 107 lbs and have avg.17.8 lbs lost a month. But I have noticed it has slowed down on the scale but the inches keep melting off.

    Gym Rats

I have been in the gym since 6 weeks out (I am now 6 months out). In the beginning it was slow and could only do a little bit both on the cardio machines as well as the weights. Now I am in the gym for 1 1/2-2 hours 30 min cardio the rest of the time on free weights and a few machines. What is exciting is every time I go I PR on my run times. I typically run on the elliptical for about 20 min and right now I go 21/2 miles in that time. I try to stay above 9mph which equates to around a 7 min and change mile pace. Then my weight training is focused on muscle building and explosive strength. Good luck to you and keep up the hard work, but, listen to your body and don't overdo it too quickly!

    Memorial Day Challenge!

256 this morning! Had a big change this week inches went down but the scale held steady all week even went up 1.5lbs at one point, till this morning down another pound. Eating right and throwing A LOT of iron around so I will take the flat of the scale in exchange for muscle growth and fat loss!

    October Sleevers

I was sleeved 24 October. HW-397 SURGERY-363 TODAY-258 GOAL WEIGHT 245 OR 14% Body fat or less. I am doing well working out getting my protein and fluids in. The only thing is I can not eat ground beef and still working on the tempo at which I eat.
  18. You look amazing congratulations on you success so far! Definitely not a quick fix or the magic bullet! We have to be diligent everyday on what and how we eat/drink, and what we do for exercise. Keep up the hard work! This is a lifestyle change not just a way to lose weight. The journey is a process and if you keep to the process, results will come. Good luck on the rest of the journey!

October 2014 sleevers check in please!

Yesterday was my "six month-aversary" from my surgery. I feel amazing, I am now the same weight I was my junior year in high school(that was 1993). I love this journey, obviously a lot of physical changes happen when you have WLS (since my highest weight I have lost over 140lbs and 116lbs since my surgery). But, I think just as much if not more emotional and mental changes happen as well. My overall outlook on life is much better as well. I am able to be a more active part of my childrens' lives, I am more active, I am a better husband... My outlook on food is completely different, is this food good fuel or just empty calories? am I really hungry or am I thirsty/bored? Emotionally I am much happier. I am no longer in constant pain and have not been for a few months now (that is a main contributer to my good mood) my relationship with the kids and wife is much better because of this. I still have a ways to go but love the direction I am heading and would not change a minute of the path I have taken. I am using this "new tool" of mine the best I can.

    What exercise has everyone done

Mine was my left side. It wold feel numb but also feel like it was burning and had lightning going through it. It hurt so bad! I used to take morphine 10mg 2x a day percocet 2-3x a day and flexoril 2x a day for pain. Was on that for 3 plus years. I stopped all meds at about 4 months post surgery, and I now only occasionally need to take a couple of advil for the discomfort. It is night and day different now with the weight loss! You hopefully will notice the same changes, good luck!

    What exercise has everyone done

I have a love/hate relationship with the elliptical machine! I love that it works me so hard and that I post-surgery PR everytime I get on it! But, I hate getting on it 3x a week! I also do a lot of weight training. For your back tri swimming or Water aerobics. I had a have a back injury and could not walk for very long before I was is so much pain I could not go anymore. My last straw was at Disneyland I was in a wheelchair wile my 70 y/o mother was walking around with no problem. I had the surgery and have lost 140lbs from my HW and now run on the elliptical for 2 1/2 miles at a 7 min pace and my back barely hurts anymore! Good luck to you!
  22. I drink 1-2 shakes a day. I think I will continue this forever. When I was playing sports or working out during the off-season and when getting myself ready to join the Army I did the same. Now that I am active again and work out a lot I am back at it. Unlike a lot of people on here I LOVE my brand of protein and would not drink anything else! It is part of my daily routine. I agree "eating your calories is best but with as hard as I workout and as active as I am outside the gym it is hard for me to get all of the protein I need just in my food intake! Plus my shakes range in the calorie count between 130-170 cal. depending on how I make it so even at 2 a day I am only drinking 340 calories, I used to drink 3x that a day just in soda and beer!

    Thunder thighs.

Squats and lunges ( front, rear, side, and angled at 45 degrees) also you could lay on your side and do leg lifts along with the cardio. Remember muscle mass burns fat very efficiently!
  24. Stop focusing on the negative aspects of: I can't eat crap food, I can't drink my self stupid, I can't, I can't, I can't. Instead find your strength and say I can. It is not easy, but nothing worth our time ever is. You will be amazed at how much all of those feelings you have go away if you keep focused on the positive and keeping you eye on the prize. You will also be amazed that a lot of the mental issues will go away or the effects lessen with healthy eating and healthy lifestyle including moderate exercise, healthy eating and a positive outlook on life. This lifestyle has just as many trials as anything else in life. You will have to change your mindset. You can do it and you will succeed if you just follow the program. Good luck to you.

butt is killing me when sitting

I have "Hank Hill" butt as well. I have always had it it is just is worse now. The best way to develop your gluten is squats and lunges and lots of them. Just as the best way to get bigger biceps it to do lots of curls. You need to work your butt the same way. Good luck!
