October 2014 sleevers check in please!

Friday was my 6 month (at 7 months? post op follow up visit. My BP was 110/57 HR was 76 Amy cholesterol 135 overall LDL 43 HDL 85 all other blood panels were in the normal range A1c was 4.1and my body fat is down to 20%! The Dr. was extatic about my results! He said that by far I am his most successful patient at the VA! My skin is healing well I have some loose skin but looks like it is still young and will probably not need to have any removed as it is not hanging and my muscle building will help for it to "go back to normal"! Another NSV is my energy level, my family and are are getting ready to move across country (for me to continue my education I was accepted to Colorado State University) and I have been loading the moving pods all weekend and have done most of the heavy-lifting myself. I am not tired or sore I worked all day both Saturday and yesterday and was like the energizer bunny, I just kept going and going.

No change for me. This was a great challenge kept me on point and accountable. Lost 16+ lbs in 7 weeks that is pretty awesome.

    Man boobs?

Push ups at different angles works well, bench press at different angles (incline30-40 degrees, flat and decline 30-40 degrees) both with barbell and bumbells. Cable crossovers high level and low. All focus on the chest. I figure if I fill the void left behind from the fat with muscle skin sag will be less. As others have said upper chest looks good, but the lower chest still needs work and is the hardest to target. You have to be at a funny angle to do bench work, but with the pushups you just need to put your feet up on a stair, stool, chair... to get the right angle. The P90X chest and back workout is awesome for learning new pushup variations.

    moving.

Talk to them before the move to see what you need to do. If you are having it done at the base hospital there might be things you can streamline.

    Confession

Sweating in the gym is a badge of hard work paying off! I used to sweat all the time, my friends would joke saying " would sweat while eating Ice cream in a freezer" hahaha sad thing I I think they would have been right. Now I only sweat while being physically active, in the gym, working in the yard or around the house. Normally now if it is 70 or below I am wearing sweats bc I am cold all the time now!

    Okay I need some reassurance

Welcome to your first big stall! The "3rd week stall" can sometimes last for a few weeks. Look at other indicators of weight loss: clothes fitting looser, being able to move better, less pain... the ting with most stalls is that once you break through it is, the weight will plummet. Just in time for the next stall. It is hard to be positive when we are going through it but, looking back it is not as big of a deal. You are 55 lbs lighter than you were 2 months ago and are on the right path to be a healthier you. Keep your head up try to change you activity if you can get to a pool try that (there is no joint impact in swimming) lower your carb intake... something different just to break the stall. You can do this good luck!

  19. I get my motivation from wanting to get back to the fitness level I had when I was in the Army! I was to be able to do all of the physically challenging things I did then and go even farther. I am motivated by my children and being able to show by example how to live a healthy lifestyle. I am self motivated to look on the outside the way I feel on the inside! I feel like an Army Ranger on the inside but look looked like more like a Jabba the Hutt on the outside. I am well on my way to making my outside look like I feel on the inside, still have a ways to go but, defiantly closer than I was a day, week, month, and year ago! I am a warrior, I will not quit, I will succeed!
  20. No, it seems more like a lack of willpower. Yes, we All had issues with the way we ate before surgery, that is why we got to where we were. The surgery is not a magic pill that will automatically make you "skinny" or change your mindset towards food. It is something you have to fight for. The diet plans given to us by our Drs. And NUTs. are a comprehensive plan to help with healing both our physical and mental outlook. The early stages are to help with not only the healing from surgery, but, also to start to detox our body from the sugar dependants we became accustom to. If you stick to the plan to a T you will find that over time you will change the way you look at all food not just the "bad foods". It is a process and not an overnight fix. It is a battle everytime you have a craving. Eventually the cravings become fewer and farther apart. Nobody on here is saying they are perfect, but, are truly worried for your safety and success on this journey. We have all slipped up one way or another and have heard of tragic things that happen to people who have not done "the right things" so we pass on our wisdom to the newbies so they do not fall into the same situations. Don't take their advise so defensively but with an open mind, one day you to will be a "veteran" at this and pass on your wisdom to the newbies then and this will be one of those situations you can pass on first-hand experience about. Good luck, be stronger than the temptations, you can do this!

    I need to VENT!

You have to learn YOUR new "normal" it takes time and A LOT of dicipline! There will be a lot of boredom in the beginning stages, but it does get easier and eventually you figure things out. It is not easy going through it but it is definitely worth it.
  22. I feel the being open about my surgery and my progress so far has made me more accountable not only to my own success, but, knowing that if others are aware as well it keeps me more focused. It is actually a motivation for me to succeed! Even the negativity of others motivates me more! My success will only shut them up and make them feel stupid. I am 7 lbs away from my goal weight and 6%body fat from my goal! It has only been 6 1/2 months, but, I have busted my ass harder than anytime since I got out of the Army. I couldn't care less what they think about me or my decision but their negativity does motivate me more to succeed for myself, not to prove anything to them, but their hate does fuel my passion to better myself.
