    Indiana-HIP 2.0

Anyone have HIP 2.0? My insurance company (MHS) is telling me that I do not need to complete a medically supervised diet but the provider is saying I do. I found out today they haven't actually checked with my insurance company they just automatically make folks do the diet. This is frustrating to me because I switched insurance and prior to this was ready to schedule a surgery. I really don't want to wait 6 months unless I absolutely have to.
  2. I can't get rid of mine either and it is hurting my brain. I tried turning off notifications and it not showing new ones but I still have a bajillion that won't clear.
  3. I am not an exercise person. I am on my pre op journey and my doctor has asked me to up my cardio. It is cold, and I frequently find myself making excuses for not getting outside. I am not a gym person, I would feel too uncomfortable in front of so many people. I have been looking at work out videos online but have found them to be more advanced and I need baby steps. I want to set myself up for success. Any tips for a very overweight beginner??

  5. what does the 3 month plan entail? I had no plan until now....which is green salad/ veg and Protein shakes. On day 4 now & craving chocolate. I have been working on portion control, reducing soda and carb intake, increasing protein and getting at least 15 min of exercise 5 days per week.

    Indiana-HIP 2.0

So far there are lots of hoops. 6 months supervised diet, food journal, sleep study, EGD, echocardiogram, chest X Ray, psych evaluation, pulmonary function test, and EKG. I have MHS as my carrier. It has been interesting but I know it will be worth it in the end.
  7. I am on month three of my supervised diet plan. I am currently working on getting more exercise in my daily routine. I am struggling with keeping my water intake up and cutting out soda. Good luck to you as you begin your journey!

    Starting an exercise routine

Thanks everyone! I have lots to look up. Hopefully I will find some that work for me. My kids and I have been making a game of exercising together so that is keeping me going. My youngest has even been begging me to exercise with her because she thinks it is fun. I just gotta keep the momentum going.
  9. Wonderful news! Glad you had a good surgical team looking out for you!
  10. Oh, I need one of these!!! What a fun gift.
  11. Oh wow, so sorry to hear that. Did you have an EGD and X-ray done prior to surgery? Was it outside of the areas they typically check? I would be freaking out big time. Hope you get some answers soon. Sending good vibes your way.
  12. This is Bobby Flay's recipe for quinoa salad and a favorite side dish in our family for get togethers.... Ingredients 3 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice 1 tablespoon red wine vinegar 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano 1 clove garlic, smashed and finely chopped to a paste Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper 1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil 1 cup quinoa Kosher salt and pepper 2 cups red and yellow grape tomatoes, halved 1 cup pitted kalamata olives 2 green onions (green and pale green part), thinly sliced 2 pickled cherry peppers, diced 1 small red onion, halved and thinly sliced 1/2 English cucumber, cut into small dice Feta, for sprinkling Directions Whisk together the lemon juice, vinegar, oregano, garlic and some salt and pepper in a small bowl. Slowly whisk in the oil until emulsified. Let sit at room temperature while you prepare the salad to allow the flavors to meld. Rinse the quinoa in a strainer until the Water runs clear. Combine the quinoa, 2 cups water, 1 teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon pepper in a small saucepan, bring to a boil and cook until the water is absorbed and the quinoa is tender, about 15 minutes. Transfer to a bowl, fluff with a fork and let sit for 5 minutes to cool slightly. Add the tomatoes, olives, green onions, cherry peppers, red onions, cucumbers and dressing and toss to coat. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour and up to 8 hours before serving. The longer it sits the better the flavor. Just before serving, transfer to a platter and sprinkle feta on top.

    Anyone in Indiana?

I am in Southern Indiana. I don't have a surgery date yet either. Working through the 6 month supervised diet until I get my date. I have told my husband, cousin, and bosses and that is it. Not sure if I will tell anyone else.

    Indiana-HIP 2.0

I am trying to be patient, I just hate that changing insurance means jumping through more hoops.

    Insurance mandated diet

That sounds terrible. Maybe you can ask for a progress report or a copy of the notes for your own records so you don't end up having to do it all over again if they aren't charting correctly. They give me a copy of what my doctor fills out at the end of each visit so I can follow our goal plan.

    Indiana Anyone?

I am in Jeffersonville, IN. I have had pre op testing completed, EGD, Blood Work, X-ray, and EEG. Due to an insurance change I have to complete a 3-6 month supervised diet now. Looking forward to the bypass. So ready for this life changing procedure!!!

    Insurance mandated diet

My doctor has a form to fill out. It lists my weight, progress, goals, and things we discuss. It is super quick and simple to do. My doctor said they are just wanting to make sure you are motivated and trying to make lifestyle changes.

    Setting Realistic Goal

Congrats on the major loss! I am interested in hearing what others have to say. Today is day one of a supervised diet before insurance will approve so I still have a long way to go.
  23. Hi all! During my EGD it was determined that I have Barrett's esophagus. I don't go back to the surgeon to discuss until right before surgery (which has not yet been scheduled due to insurance switching). Does anyone have experience with Barrett's and the sleeve, should I switch to the bypass? I don't want to regret my choice in surgery.

    Barret's and the sleeve

I have has GERD for approx 15 years. I never took any PPI or anything until I was diagnosed in May. I will definitely talk to the surgeon about it, I just started researching what this could mean for surgery. While the sleeve was my first choice, it is certainly not a game changer if I need to go a different route. I have come to far to give up over one hiccup.
