  1. Hi. I am One month post-op and had lost 12 pounds the first week, but have hit a wall and not lost anything for 3 full weeks. I have upped my calories, Water and exercise and have made sure I am following exactly what my doctor said. Has such a long stall this early on happened to anyone else? If so, how did you push through and start losing again?

When Can I Start Eating Bread?

@@K-Lynn because it is a starchy carbohydrate and it will lead to weight gain. Also, many overweight folks are addicted to carbs and sugar, both in breads...My surgeon has all his patients avoid all starchy carbs (breads, pastas, potatoes, rice) until they have reached their goal/maintenance weight. By that time you should be more in control of your eating and if you start to gain weight, hopefully you have learned tools to get it back off quickly.

@@Jb1176 I have a hard time getting all the Protein in too and I'm not allowed starchy carbs until I reach my maintenance weight.
  4. Hi everyone. I had surgery on Monday the 13th. I am easily getting in my required liquids. My issue is my Protein. When I have a Protein shake I get nauseas. I have tried both pre-made/powder.. diff brands/flavors. I've told the nurse and surgeon when they have called to check on me and they both just keep telling me to do the best I can. I wanted to ask people who have been through this .. has anyone dealt with this and what did you do? I am supposed to be Clear Liquids (plus pudding and greek yogurt) until I am 2 weeks post-op ... Has anyone had to take a nausea pill just to get protein down each time.. Any ideas?

    Nauseas during protein?

@@Jb1176 I can get in my 60 ounces of water, soup broth and popsicles easily.. this protein is hard on me.. today I am trying to thin it way out and took my pain meds before starting and 1/3 of my nausea meds as 1/3 of the drink goes down. We have to get this protein in no matter what so we have got to figure out a way. It is painful with every swallow, but I've got to make it work.
  8. @@Goldy6575 Goldy don't forget people gain 7-10 during surgery because of fluids they fill you up with so you have lost whatever you gained at the hospital on top of your 10 pounds so it's a bit better than you thought. It's hard not to have high expectations because we hear about people having such amazing results. You have made a huge life change and surgery is always a big decision so I can see why you would be concerned and wondering if you might have bigger losses. Best of luck to you.

    Isopure drinks

@@agalindo17 The grape is the only one I can tolerate.. it tastes like watered down grape kOol-Aid.. I just make ice cubes out of it so I get the benefit of the protein but I don't really have to straight up drink it. They are chalky and I just don't like them, but it's hard to beat the protein amount.
  10. Hi everyone. I am a single female and live alone so was not telling anyone I am doing this because I wanted to avoid comments and opinions and just all of the questions. As the months have passed, I realize I am lonely because this is the biggest focus in my life at the moment and I can't share it with anyone I know. SO, I decided to tell my friend I've known my entire life (lives in diff state) and all I can say is OMG! This was a text convo, not out loud. So, she went on and on which was like, "Bindy, do you know what you are doing to your body? You can't come back from this. You have lost weight before and you can do it again the healthy way. I personally know 3 people that have had bariatric surgery they all regret it and two are heavier than they were before. Don't let a doctor talk you into this. They make is sound good to people because they are getting rich off of it. This has become a trendy surgery and you just wait until they find out long term what it really does to you. They want you to do a liquid diet for two weeks. Do you even understand what that is doing to your kidneys or your pancreas? You are smarter than this. I love you, THINK!" Well, I just never responded at all. Part of me wanted to disagree or explain or educate, but all I could do was wish I had never said a word. I feel like .. ugh. I didn't want to go on this journey alone, the isolation of hiding it away with people I know was getting me really down, but now I know I can't tell another soul. She is the one person, if any, in my life that would embrace me and be kind.
  11. Hi. I am still pre-op so I am wondering what regrets people might have once they have been through it? Or maybe what surprised you the most about life after surgery? Thanks for the posts, I just want to be very sure I know what I'm getting into.

    Bypass vs sleeve

@@AngelWingz I wish you the best in making an informed decision. From the sleeve you can do a bypass, but not the other way around. I would seriously consider taking the more conservative approach and do the sleeve. You won't have dumping or the malabsorption that comes with the bypass. You will have amazing results with the sleeve with the stats you posted. I would listen more to your surgeon than your family. They love you, but he knows all about all of this and does it every day.

@@kvlasy I was getting from her that she KNOWS and I am somehow naive. Obviously, I have been the one doing over 3 years of research and Q&A groups at the hospital and reading and watching videos and she knows all of this. She kept saying "you're not fat!" i sent her a picture of the print out from my doctor showing how high my bmi is and that 49.5% of my body is made up of fat. She knows my health issues so I just don't see how she thinks this way. sigh...oh well.. it's about me. I have to live my life every day, not her or anyone else. I just wanted one person in my real life that knows me to support me. I am a strong person, I can do this alone.. I just didn't want to. Thank you to anyone who replied. It helps to read all of your comments.

    Scared mindless! Please help me

@@JeanneKoch ... I was told your staples will be grown over and become part of your body. They are titanium and will never have any adverse affect on you. It is not like have heavy metals in your body like aluminum or mercury. They won't keep you from an MRI or make you beep in an airport. This was my main question so I have researched it and asked it of several doctors and nurses, not just my surgeon. I feel completely safe about it now.
  19. Hi. I am new so this has probably been asked 1000 times over, but I am confused about the pre-op diet. If my doctor says full liquids with jello, broth, protein shakes for two weeks then why do people have different diets? He said it's for safety during surgery because the two weeks on liquids will put my body into ketosis and it will start eating the fat around my liver, shrinking it and someone has to hold your liver out of his way during the procedure so it makes it safer. so, if that makes it safe I don't get why there are so many different diets?
  20. Marijuana is very effective for pain and nausea. My PCP and my surgeon both know I use it in place of narcotics and are supportive. Not all causes munchies. I don't use it all of the time, only times when you might use a prescription pain killer. Cannabis makes more Fiber, fuel, food and medicine than any other plant on earth. This isn't a medicinal source to be ignored. It's funny when people say, "It's a drug. Plain and simple." What do you think that little button you are pushing in the hospital to give you a dose of pain relief is? It's a chemical made up in a lab- you are taking drugs every time you push that button or take that prescription. So, please do your research and be a bit more open minded. Cannabis was here long before we were and far longer than any of todays "medicine."
