Did anyone feel pressure by surgeon to so bypass instead of sleeve
stacyg1 replied to Mayastone's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon was just the opposite. I'm 4'11 and was 250lbs. At my first appointment he said sleeve was totally appropriate because I didn't have any co-morbs. He said weight loss with bypass was comparable at the 18 month mark but that I would probably lose more quickly with bypass. He also seemed to think that bypass was a riskier procedure because of the re routing that needs to be done (don't know if that is scientifically true but he does both procedures so I don't think it's an inherent bias on his part). He said if it was up to me and that he's be more than happy to perform bypass if that was my choice. I chose sleeve. I'm 14 months post op and down 127lbs -
How Do You Set Your Goals?
stacyg1 replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
At my first appointment with my surgeon he told me not to focus on numbers but to make my goal "health." However with that said, I did pick some scale and non scale goals. My scale goals: first one was 1/2 my weight from my first appt with my surgeon. I met that about a pear post op. My second is a "normal" BMI. I'm 2 lbs from that goal. My final scale goal is to be in the middle of a Normal BMI which will give me a bit if my cushion. Trying to stay in my surgeon's goal of "health" I decided that my NSV goals would revolve around fitness. At the time of my surgery my goal was to run a half marathon. I met that goal 2 days before the one year anniversary of my surgery. -
Same as last week ????????????

Is this ever going to stop?
stacyg1 replied to gowalking's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
This happens to me everyday. I had a work meeting out at Disneyland and a few staff members asked me to pick up some candy for them. I agreed and took six prepackaged bags to the register. The girl ringing me up looked at me and said "I sure hope you're not eating all this by yourself." I immediately went back to fat girl thoughts and felt mortified! At the time I was 125lbs and there's no way she would have guessed my former status, but that's exactly where my mind went. I couldn't wait to walk out of the store. The rest if my time there I was trying to figure out a place to hide the bag so no one could see that I went to the candy store. I'm waiting for the day that my brain catches up to my body, but I fear that I will always have the fat girl lurking just below the surface -
Today I had to have an MRI of my shoulder. It was so nice to hop on the table and slide into the machine without worrying that I would get stuck. Something that would definitely have been a concern 126 lbs ago!

Do you try to imagine what you'll look like after surgery?
stacyg1 replied to HopeandAgony's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 15 months post surgery and really didn't have any idea how I'd look once the weight started to fall off. I've been working our consistently and while I have excess skin on my body I guess it's not as bad as it could be. Like Babbs, my problem is I don't see myself as a smaller person. Whether it's looking in the mirror or in a photo, I still see an obese person staring back at me even though I'm in the 125 lb range. (On the BMI scale I'm still technically overweight and maybe that's my problem. My eyes see what is reflected by the charts, who knows). It's very disconcerting and my friends are actually concerned about me as they think I'll continue to want to lose weight until I can "see" a difference. Body dysmorphia is very real and in my experience difficult to deal with. As far as you seeing the two faceless images of yourself, I don't know, but I never had that experience. -
No change for me this week. It looks like my body wants to be in maintenance. ????

Strange Info from NUT re: Carbs

@@IcanMakeit - I'm going to try to stick to the new plan. I trust my surgeon and his staff implicitly. I mean his plan helped me lose 130 lbs, why wouldn't I trust him. It's just a bit scary after being low carb for so long! -
Strange Info from NUT re: Carbs
stacyg1 replied to MarceMonster's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm 15 months post surgery and down 130 lbs and my surgeon and NUT just changed my macros to 100 g of protein (33%), 110g of carbs (37%) and 40g of fat (30%). I actually cried in her office when she gave me the new plan. I'm having other issues that may account for the change in plan but they were concerned that under 40g of carbs a day was becoming detrimental. I haven't been able to hit 110g yet and still feel compelled to have more protein than carbs but I made a promise that I would do my best to hit those marks for a 4 week "experiment." I'm just hoping I don't start gaining weight. -
I have lost 130lbs. I started as a 42C and am now in a 34 DD

@@lexiemustang - it was such an easy surgery. My surgery was at 8:00 am and I left the hospital at 12:30 the same day. You will feel SO much better after if you actually have to have it removed. Good luck!

I had my gallbladder removed 9 months after my VSG. It was super easy. Had surgery on a Friday, went for a mani/pedi on Saturday and was back to work on Tuesday!!

No change today. Hoping for downward movement next week!!

Ladies, What Size Jeans Do You Wear?
stacyg1 replied to JamieLogical's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Weight: 125 Height: 5' Jeans 27 (for pairs sized that way) 4p-6p (depending on the brand) -
I didn't have a single gas pain. He was really good at extracting the gas used during surgery. He's done two surgeries on me and I couldn't be more pleased with his skill and the care I received

Yes, I did. My surgery was in May 2014. I sent you a message. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions

I recently changed jobs and my new firm requires a formal photo for the website. My photo shoot is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon. Even after losing 130 lbs, the thought of sitting for a photo is filling me with dread. It's so hard to wrap your head around the "new you" when old habits are so ingrained. I'm just hoping to get through the shoot with a descent photo and without a major anxiety attack. Wish me luck!

Hamburgers are gross

I eat so much cheese it's ridiculous. Good, full fat, rich, creamy REAL cheese. Every day. In stuff, on stuff, as a meal itself. I love cheese. It's so fabulous that instead of eating "light" or "low fat" or skim milk cheese, I can eat the real thing and not feel one drop of guilt about it. Love cheese. I'm with you! I love cheese! One of my favorites right now is a turkey burger mixed with feta or goat cheese. It's wonderful! -

Run a half marathon. I ran my first in May of this year and my second is coming up in November. Who knew that I'd become a runner!
