So I have made it through surgery and the first week of post-op. It hasn't been all sunshine but the worst of it is over. I go into a little more detail on my blog The MGB and Me. Thanks everyone for the well wishes and I look forward to hearing and sharing as I go along the path to my new life.

Vitamin (pill form) recommendations?
Maverick1971 replied to Psychsnob's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
This is the same one my surgeon recommends. My wife has taken it for several months and has never complained about it. -
Awesome. Congrats on getting your date and good luck moving forward.

Thanks @@dml77 I am still a rookie at it yet.

So here I sit trying to relax and get some rest. I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve night. I haven't sleep worth a crap since Sunday. I am so ready to get this journey started. Tomorrow at 10:00 CDT I should be unbanded and converted to MGB and in my room.

Well not real depression. I am scheduled for my MGB surgery on July 1st. I am just realizing I am having several things for the last time and I am not sure how I feel about that. Don't get me wrong I know I will be in such a better place after I lose the weight but I have been emotionally tied to different foods for a long time. Am I just a wacko or have others dealt with this and is it truly worth it?

Sounds like you are doing great. My band come out on Wednesday and revising to MGB.

Guys Room - Is everyone else overly emotional or am I just an a*****e?

Dude its the testosterone that has you jacked up. It has been stored in your fat cells and as you lose weight it is coming out. Your body will eventually level out once you stop losing weight at a rapid pace. -
1st Appt 6/16, deciding on a procedure
Maverick1971 replied to keddykat75's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had the lapband about 5 years ago and have issues a along. To top it off it has developed a leak and needs to be repaired. I am going in on July 2nd and it will be removed and the surgeon will be performing a Mini-Gastric Bypass on me. The reason I went with the MGB is it 100% reversible unlike the sleeve and has a shorter recovery time than the Gastric Bypass. The problem with the MGB is only a few surgeons perform this operation in the US. It is extremely popular in Europe however. It has a solid track record and an estimated 80% excess weight loss expected. -
Hey good luck man. I am in the same boat but mine is a little bigger. I am 6'4" and will never be tiny but I can be healthy. Have you thought much about long term goal? I am thinking 205 to 215 would look good on a 6'4" frame. I am scheduled for an MGB on June 17th.

Been unaccountable for to long, back on the horse

Welcome back and good luck. Hate to be a Debbie Downer but I was in the same boat as you. I was banded about 5 years ago and did great for 18 to 24 months and then fell off the wagon. When I went back to get started again I found out I had a leak in the tubing and it would require another procedure to fix it. Hope you have a better outcome then me. I guess it is not that uncommon for a leak to develop in the tubing. -

I see several people talking about taking vitamins both before and after so I wanted to pass along what my doctor suggest taking after surgery. Here is a link to the vitamins Link. They have both a chewable and a tablet.

Mike: These are the Vitamins my surgeon suggest. You might get better feedback on this board https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/mgb_mo/conversations/messages. That is a local board associated with my surgeon.

I was banded in 2001. Like many others I started out doing great and lost right at 100 lbs. Then the honeymoon period was over and I started gaining weight. I was exercising regularly but I was noticing I could eat more then I should be able to eat. I would go for a fill and get restriction but it would only last for a few hours. Come to find out I have a leak in the band somewhere and my doctor wants to go in and repair the leak. I have decided to go another route and get a mini gastric bypass. I am tired of having to go and get fills since I live almost 2 hours from my doctor, I am tired of every time I fly I get pulled aside because they see the band in the scanner, I am tired of having acid reflux nightly but most importantly I am tired of being obese. The best I could realistically look forward to losing is 50% of my excess weight with the repaired band. The mini gastric bypass on average people lose 70%. I have a date set and am counting down the days. For anyone considering dumping the Lap Band I would say do it and remember the you didn't fail the band failed you like it has so many.

I am scheduled for my MGB on June 17th. One of the requirements my doctor has is I have to contact 10 people and get a brief description of their experience. Would anyone be willing to give me a brief story of your journey so far with MGB. It doesn't have to be in great detail just a short paragraph or two of when you started and how the surgery went and where you are today. I would greatly appreciate it.
