  1. I told people for the exact same reason. I felt there would be less whispers about me, my absence and dramatic weight loss and eating habits if i just told people the truth. I've had so much support that I'm very happy with my decision but can understand its not for everyone.
  2. Had a very successful weekend this past week. First of all me, my husband and some friends went out of town to a steampunk festival and not only did i dress up but I entered a cosplay competition. I knew i wouldn't win but felt brave enough to go strut my stuff, something I would not have done 97lbs ago. Secondly in July me and my husband went on an alaskan cruise and bought hiking boots. We went on a hike before the trip and hiked through the rain forest in alaska (amazing!) and found that we really enjoyed it. So we went to a hiking trail yesterday. For some reason we kept thinking the trail was 3 miles. So we were hiking and hiking and hiking and saw mile markers for the first 2 miles then came to a split in the trail where there was a trail that was 8 miles and the trail we wanted to be on. So that's when we found out that the shorter trail that we thought was 3 miles was really 5.3!! By then we were pretty tired and about half way done and let me say a mile hiking was drastically different than just a mile walking on a flat surface. So we just kept at it and kept saying that we were gonna feel so accomplished at the end. Btw this trail had lots of narrow paths and steep inclines. Ugh! So it took us 2 hours and 45 minutes to hike the trail but the feeling was so rewarding! It's something i wouldn't have been able to go when i was heavier. But the hike made me think of my weight loss journey. Parts seemed miserable and to go on forever, like wanting to eat food during post op diet. And parts were thrilling, like trying on a new dress that you couldn't fit in before. But ultimately the end felt so rewarding and while I'm not at the end of my weight loss journey i can say that these past 97lbs were like that 5.3 mile hike! Cheers! That's so kind of you to say! Thank you! I've been inspired by so many others so I'm glad to pass it along.

    Down 97lbs and pics!

In so excited for you to start a great part of your lives! My husband and I had been on one other cruise when we were heavier and while we aren't skinny minnies yet, it was much more enjoyable now that we are in better shape. And hopefully you both will enjoy hiking as much as we do now. I never thought i would enjoy something so active! Best of luck to you and your wife and we will all be excited to see both of your success stories!
  5. Sleeved March 30th, down 95lbs including 2 week pre op liquid diet. I have probably another hundred to lose but have been feeling great and noticed a lot of difference. Keep up the hard work everyone!

    Hi there!

My weight at the beginning of my weight loss journey was 362. After my 2 week pre op liquid diet my surgery weight was 342. I was sleeved March 30th and including my pre op liquid diet I'm down 95lbs.
  7. Oh and last week i went out for Mexican food and had a couple chips and ordered off the a la cart menu and had another meal from it. It was cheaper and i was perfectly satisfied. Yay!
  8. Honestly i thought i would be craving all the things i used to eat like crazy, but i really don't. At 5 months out I've had pizza and ice cream but honestly i have very little and it's rare that i have them at all. One day at work there were donuts and i thought "f*uck yes DONUTS!". And then when i thought about it i realized i didn't even want a donut. My body didn't care but my brain was used to seeing donuts and even if i wasn't hungry I'd eat them. Don't let the fear of eating copious amounts of food keep you from changing your life for the better! Life is much more than food.

    Low Heart Rate after surgery

Mine is. I've been seeing a cardiologist for it. It's usually in the 40s. He said it's likely related to the vagus nerve. It's still scary and am hoping it'll sort itself out cause i feel fine even though it's low.

    Are You More Forgetful?

    Sugarfree Gum?

I will be able to have it at 6 months out. I was told the chewing will make your stomach produce a lot of stomach acid which of course won't end with food. I imagine it's not good to have that happening in your new stonach for awhile.

    Hair loss

I'm almost 4 months out and have noticed a lot more hair has been coming out recently. I've been taking biotin as well. We'll see what happens but if i start getting bald spots then im gonna rock a sexy pixie cut or get the sides shaved. Don't forget its hair it will grow back. This forum has prepared me for hair loss so I'm ok either way. I feel brave for getting this surgery and brave for getting a daring haircut! Stay strong!
  13. Was sleeved on 3/31. I was 362 before my preop liquid diet. Surgery day i was 320 now I'm 302. For a total of 60lbs! One of my drs even said they had my highest weight with them as 370 but I'm just sticking with what i was close to the start of my weight loss journey. I've been very happy since i got off mushy foods and haven't had any problems with foods I've tried. I count myself as very lucky to have a tough stomach. Liquids are hard for me to get in 64 ounces everyday but especially on days i work. But I'm still working hard and am very happy with my results. I've even stalled this past week, doesn't gain or lose and i was totally fine with that. I know it's going to happen sometimes and i have to be OK with that. It's great to hear everyone's success. Keep it up!
  14. Shopping wherever i want, flying on a plane comfortably and with no seat belt extender, sitting in majority of chairs and not having my hips be squished or touching the sides and confidently saying ill take a booth at a restaurant! Plus once i get under 200lbs i plan on going sky diving!
  15. I really enjoyed sugar free chocolate pudding with a little bit of sugar free cool whip. Whip that bad boy up with some inflavored protein and it's kind of like a mousse. And it took care of my sweet tooth.

    Not telling anyone

I told people at my job cause I thought addressing it would cause less gossip than the unknown. So far everyone has been really supportive and happy for me. I also chose to only tell them after I had my surgery date that way there wasn't the constant "where's it gonna happen?" But I totally understand not telling people as well. I thought about both and am happy with my decision cause I felt like my co workers would be supportive and they were. I think the decision to tell is very much a case by case situation.
  17. I love this post! Me and my husband are going on an Alaskan cruise in July, I'll be 15 weeks out. These are some great tips! I am genuinely happy for you to have had such a wonderful trip!
  18. Hi everyone! I was looking for some info if anyone can provide it. I just got sleeved on March 30 2015 and everything seems to be going really good except my heart rate is in the low side, generally in the low 40s. They had a cardiologist come in and he basically said it could be from anesthesia but he is having me wear a heart monitor for 30 days. Has this happened to anyone else? If so do you know what it ended up being from and how long did it take to regulate? Thank you in advance!

    Low heart rate

@ckj: Thank you for sharing! I haven't done anything physical yet besides walking the halls in the hospital. And even one time that I had been walking they took my heart rate right after and it was still low. Boooo!

    Low heart rate

@canyonbaby: Thank you for the advice. The heart monitor has a cell phone it connects to and if I start feeling dizzy or anything I push a couple buttons on the monitor and it then sends it to the phone. Then it asks me questions like were you laying down or what you were actively doing etc. Then it sends that off for the report at the end of the month. I'm hoping it just regulates itself.
