Help. I gained a pound
mccoyjd replied to fuzzyfeline's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had read different things about the benefits of Protein shakes and the calories vs the protein. I asked my surgeon, and he said we could drink them for the rest of our lives if we wanted. Said it's a great source of protein to have 1 or maybe 2 a day. I only drink 1 per day right now. -
I was on a liquid diet for 2 weeks prior to surgery and 2 weeks post-op. I had my surgery on 14 April. I had a little less energy during the pre-op diet than normal, but was able to work and do all my normal activities. Post-op has been quite a bit different. The 1st week after surgery, I was really tired. This is a pretty significant surgery though, so it your body has to recover. I was released from the hospital on 16 April, and by 19 April I was on the treadmill. There are days it's tough to find it in you to jump on there, but I haven't missed a day. I'm up to an hour a day, and the exercise is making all the difference in the world. I returned to work yesterday, so I was pretty worn out when I got home. Resting for an hour, then jumped on the treadmill for an hour. Talked to my Doc about the energy levels on Monday at my 1st follow-up. He said it's quite normal to not have much energy and is to be expected. He said it varies from person to person, but can be from a month to 3 or 4 months until you get back to your normal energy level. From there, it so go up as you lose weight.

My surgery is Tuesday, and know what you mean. I'm anxious more than anything, but also a little nervous. My wife had her surgery on 17 March, and the worst pain she had while in the hospital was the drain that was in her side. Said that was very uncomfortable, especially when she would get out of bed. Once she got home, her biggest complaint by far was constipation. She did well getting up and moving around pretty regularly. Her most pain was getting up, either out of bed or out of the chair. Once up, she was OK. I'm no help on the bra part. Best of luck to you and I'll be right behind you.

My wife had her bypass surgery on 17 March and I'm scheduled for 14 April. My wife is doing well post-op, went back to work today. I think her weight loss since the pre-op diet is around 33 pounds. Her biggest complaint was the constipation. She did better than I'm doing with the pre-op diet. Our Dr. has us on a total liquid diet for 2 weeks. I'm sticking to it and have lost 12 pounds in 6 days, but man is it tough. My wife was near as moody and irritable as I've been. I've had a couple of good days, but more bad days it seems. At least I'm seeing some progress now, so that's making it a bit easier. Really glad we're going on this journey together as I believe it will help us succeed. It'll make meal planning much easier and we can keep each other in line. I'm really ready to get this surgery behind me though. It's been great to read all the stories and advice on here. Thanks for sharing and good luck in your journies.

Thank you all. I'm really ready to get this done, but finally getting there. Just a few more days of this darn pre-op diet and I'll have my surgery. We're both already seeing differences in our lives and we're just beginning. Pretty exciting!

I started the process late last summer. Went through a few problems along the way including being turned down by TriCare initially. Won the appeal and I'm set for surgery on 14 April. I'm on day 8 of the 2 week liquid diet. It's been no picnic, but it's doable. I'm down 13 pounds in 8 days though, so that helps. Where do you buy the shakes you talked about? I'm ready for something different.
