  1. I'm 10 months out and doing really well. I remember the tired! I'd get up in the morning and take a shower. That completely exhausted me for the rest of the day. I would walk to the dining room table and feel like I had hiked all day. Bone tired. But at about 4-5 weeks it changed. I felt better and was able to resume my normal levels of activity and beyond. Stay patient and enjoy the naps. It won't last long.
  2. Rare ribeye. Onion rings. Salad with way too much extra 'stuff'. So good. I'm 4 months out and I had the same meal over the weekend. Only it was 3 or 4 bites of the steak. Half of an onion ring and just a couple bites of the salad. But damn it was good.

    down to the wire

My DH used an e cig. He used one that was just like the menthol cigs he smoked. He started with a low nicotine liquid and after a few weeks weaned himself off of the nicotine. He still uses the e cig but with no nicotine. 3 years free. His dr thinks it's great and his myriad health issues have cleared up.

    Really Tough Day

Message. I know exactly how you feel. My DH had his birthday the day before my surgery. We had to travel to the hospital for a few hours and what with nerves and second thoughts ( not much) and just trying to remember everything.... my poor Johnny got left behind. He was so strong for me. Bless his heart. A couple weeks later I made his favorite. Fresh blackberry pie.

    Post-op no holding back

I discovered something great. You can shop at Costco online without a membership! I went on to check it out and ran thru the order. I got 4 -18 packs with no shipping charges and no membership. That's how I do it now.
  6. I'm using the store brand of Miralax. Clearlax. I use it about every 3rd day and it keeps things comfortable. Tasteless and I don't even know it's there.

    Burgers and Pizza

I'd say wait. Get your body and mind away from those things. Not only are we changing our bodies but this is the best time to work on our minds, too.

    Constipation

I've settled in to a dose of store brand Clearlax (miralax) every other day. It's keeping me regular and from what I understand a bm every 3 days isn't unusual because of the small amount we're taking in. I'm not comfortable with that, tho. I've always been once a day, every day. I do know those protein shakes settle in the colon like concrete.

    May 2015 surgery buddies

I'm a little later. My surgery was 6/30. I've dropped 38 lbs. talk about frustration. Doing everything right. Paying close attention to what goes in. I guess it's common. I'm losing about 2 lbs a week now. I went for 7 weeks without losing a single pound! I'm resigned to the slow progress.

    I'm so tired.....

Holy cow. How long does it take to get past this? I have never been so bone tired in my entire life. I'm 18 days post rny and I haven't the strength of a newborn. More than enough water. 60 grams at least protein. Eating soft foods. Doing everything right. I guess I'm just not used to the weakness. Wow. I just had dinner and we clears the plates from the table. I started to empty the dishwasher and after I put two things into an upper cabinet I was done. Couldn't even lift my arms. Ok. Done whining.
  11. I learned something many years ago. When you try on clothes and really want to know how they look on your body, look in the mirror with it adjusted so you can't see your head or face. It truly changes your perspective. Do the same thing with the pics. Take shots without your head in the picture. I have a scarf hanging over the top of my full length mirror. It sounds strange but it really works.

    Melting

My experience was/is like that. I didn't lose any actual weight for 6 weeks but everything was rearranging. That's how my DH put it.

    Preop "the last supper"

My 'last supper' was a grilled medium rare rib eye and a salad with way too many things on it. Heaven. I know. Not horrible and actually something I don't have to give up. Now my salad is grilled veggies along with the 3 bites of the rib eye I can eat. ????

    Clothing

I'm 10 weeks out and did a real purge of my dresser. I'm one of those that held on to clothes that "I'll get into when I lose a couple of pounds". I was giggling to myself as I tried everything on. Everything was too big. Nothing was wearable. The little stuff was 2 sizes too big. The down side is I really need to go get a few things that fit. But I know I'll be able to wear them a few weeks and that's it. Thrift stores here I come! I'm going to keep the clothes I wore to the hospital to remind me.

Really, What is the Straight Skinny Post-Op?

I don't know how I did that. Posted twice. Oh well.

Really, What is the Straight Skinny Post-Op?

My experience has been so good all around I'm afraid to say too much. I don't want to jinx myself. I'm 59 years old. 5'7". RnY June 30 this year. I'm 2.5 months out. Yes. My taste buds did change. I can eat anything. I haven't found a single thing that bothers me. I had a bite of a hamburger Labor Day. We had a big BBQ to celebrate our new deck! It was my DH's burger and it just didn't taste good at all. Didn't make sick but one bite was plenty to know I don't want any more. I have had a little bowl of a whole wheat hot cereal every morning to help with constipation. This has been for 20 years. And I like the stuff. It's good. About 7 weeks or so after the surgery I made a bowl, like every morning, and the smell made me feel a little like gagging. I couldn't eat a bite of it. Little things like that have changed. But it's not bad. Just a change. I don't get hungry. I use MyFitnessPal to keep track of what I'm taking in to help me get what I need. I drink at least one protein shake a day to make sure I'm getting the protein I need. It tracks the carbs and fats to keep me responsible. At this point I don't have any reminders that I've had the surgery. Life is normal and comfortable. The reminder is there when I get my tiny tummy filled. After a few bites I'm done. You will enjoy your new life.

    Burgers and Pizza

I'm 11 weeks out from RnY. I have a little trouble with the hamburger because it seems so dense. It fills up my tummy after one bite and seems to just sit there. That's without the bun. Just the meat itself. I have had a couple slices of pizza but I use a fork and slide the toppings off of the crust and get rid of the crust. Actually pretty good.

    No energy!

I was so weak and tired all the time. My morning shower would wipe me out for the day. It was really a bit scary. Between week 5 and 6 I woke up and everything was back to normal. Very odd but that's how it happened.

    Vacation rant

I always just refill my water bottles. I'm a cheapskate of the first order. A couple of bottles of water in my bag and I refill every time I see a faucet or fountain.

Doctor Passing Me off to Assistant

Many years ago, when I moved to this area, I made an appt with a family medical practice doctor. Highly recommended by friends. My initial visit I was seen by the nurse practitioner. She is very professional and much more personable than any dr I've ever seen. In 16 years of visits I have seen my actual dr only once per year. My health has always been good and never any major issues. I've discovered that a nurse practitioner or a medical assistant are the offices best asset.

How long in hospital and off work?

RNY June 30th. I spent 24 hours in the hospital sleeping most of the time. I had my Johnny at home to help but I had no problems at all. I took 5 weeks off work because my job is ridiculously physical. I knew I couldn't go back too soon. My only issue was the bone tired days. A morning shower would wipe me out for the day.

    HALF way to goal!

I'm just the opposite. In the week pre op and the week after I lost 24 lbs. nothing sense. I'm almost 8 weeks out and nothing's happening.... Till yesterday. 2 lbs down yay. My dr says this is normal. As soon as I'm able to take in more calories I'll start losing. She was right. I'm so excited about 2 pounds.

6 weeks out and not losing weight

Scarlet I'm going thru the same thing. My rny was June 30. I've lost only 24 lbs. it was all lost within the first week. I haven't dropped a single pound since. I'm so frustrated. I'm following the rules. Doing what I'm supposed to be doing. My dr says when I'm able to take in more calories I'll start dropping. She says it's not uncommon. Ok. I understand. But I want to scream.
