  1. I gotta be honest, I'm feeling a lot of buyer's remorse. I'm two weeks post-op and I've actually gained 4 pounds. I have a vacation coming up at the end of May and I was told I would be down 40-60 pounds by then. So far it looks like I'll be +20. My only thought is that my pre-op diet was so awesome that my body just wanted to settle. (My happy thought that I'm clinging to) I sure hope it kicks in soon. This is depressing.
  2. At 11 months, I'm currently at 284, down from 355. Not the fantastic results that some have gotten, but I feel much better about life. At my lowest I was 268. That was about 7 or 8 months post-OP. Then, as it always has, my body corrected and it's been a slow, steady gain ever since. I'd do it again. I may go have the rest of the bypass done (I had sleeve only) just to see if I can get another season of loss.
  3. I'll be honest and say I'm ashamed of myself for having to resort to WLS to handle my problem. The only person at work who knows is my boss, and that was only so he would know in case something went wrong. The only person in my family I told was my baby brother, and it was for the same reason. I needed him to tell our mother in case something happened. My children don't even know. The oldest (8) saw my scars and I told him I got in a knife fight. Other than that, no one knows. They all just think I went to Mexico for a week and laid on the beach. Who did you tell and why?
  4. 10 weeks post op. I started out at 355. On the day of my surgery, I was 319 thanks to my pre-op diet. Today I am 296. It seems like I go three or four days then suddenly drop a pound to a pound and a half on the fourth day. I'm still learning this new body. I still puke at least once a week. Everything I eat gives me horrible gas. One day at a time.
  5. 9 weeks post op. Just got back off vacation. I learned that I cannot eat shrimp anymore. I ate it twice at two different restaurants and puked up the soles of my feet both times. I managed to gain 4 pounds. I'm hoping they fall off as quickly and easily as they jumped on. My big problem right now is that I'm dizzy a lot. For the first time since I was a teen, I get super dizzy when I stand up from a chair. Anyway.. 'Till next week.

  7. Sorry ISG, I thought you were asking someone else that. I get (something like) 65 grams of Protein in my morning shake. I use a Pure Protein Shake mix, but instead of milk, I use a pre-made protein shake and double the amount of protein in the shake. After that, it's just whatever I get from other sources. Water is a funny thing with me. I had a personal trainer in 2000 who told me I should be drinking two gallons of water every day. It stuck with me because I've been doing it for fifteen years. It may be all in my head, but if I don't get it, I don't feel right.
  8. We did some tilapia with a homemade ginger sauce a week ago and it sat pretty well. Salmon sounds divine. I'm going to have to try that. We are currently on vacation in the Gulf of Mexico. We plan to return with at least 40 pounds of fresh shrimp.
  9. I've found that sonic has a kids "mini" nugget that's just about the right size if I eat slow. I can eat 3 chick-Fil-a nuggets, on the fourth one I puke. I can't eat any sort of beef unless it's a small portion of ground hamburger. I tried eating a bit of beef from my wife's fajita and puked it up right away. The funny thing is, I ate about 3oz of beef Jerky last night and was just fine. I haven't tried a carrot yet, but lettuce, and Beans have both caused me to puke. I'm afraid to eat anything else green. I'm sick of puking. Anyway. The scale has started to slowly move. I lost 36 pounds pre-op and in my 8 weeks since surgery I've lost an additional 16. (Not nearly the 40-60 I was told to expect.. Maybe they were including the pre-op)
  10. Eight weeks post op today. I'm living on chicken nuggets, Atkins bars, and Protein shakes. I'm losing about two pounds a week now without too much fuss. It's been a learning curve with this new body. I can't eat tortillas or lettuce without throwing up. Anything that says "sugar free" causes dumping. I'm slowly wrapping my brain around this new life. At this point, I would still back out if it were possible. Just not enough return on the effort.

  12. I tried sugar free ice cream and I started dumping big time. I tried it three times, just to be sure. Yep. It definitely was the ice cream. Breyer's sugar free vanilla.
  13. Six weeks post op today. I'm down a whopping 13 pounds. Not the 20 pounds a month I was told to expect, but it's something. My quality of life has gone down in some ways, but my golf game has improved. Not positive I'd do it again. I think I could have paid a personal trainer for a long time for what I spent on surgery and still lived like a human. Oh well.
  14. My wife told a family member who proceeded to tell the entire family and we ended up the subject of the gossip circle at her church. It's best to tell as few people as possible and make sure they understand that it's YOUR story to tell and not theirs.
  15. Just over a month from my surgery date and I've been up and down, but as of today I have a net loss of 9 pounds. If this was any other sort of diet, this would be the point I would quit and proceed to get on every website I could find and tell everyone that it's snake oil. So far all I've really lost is My ability to enjoy dinner with my kids My ability to enjoy lunch with co workers My ability to enjoy a nice frozen margarita And any other real expectations I had for a "normal" life. This sucks.
  16. Three and a half weeks out, I'm down about 8 pounds. Not a single person has noticed, but they have made comments about how I stopped going to lunch or how I'm "no longer a man" because I won't eat a steak with them. The depression is getting bad.

    I cheated

    Part of the pre-op diet is to shrink your liver to reduce the chances of complications during surgery. If you're not worried about complications, don't bother with the pre-op diet.
  18. We too had a wonderful experience in Mexico. Would (and have) recommend it to anyone.

    We went to Mexico and received much better care than we ever could have gotten here in the states. They are a true free market system, meaning their price has to be right and their service has to be right or they go out of business. Here in America, as long as,a doctor is in network with an insurance company, they've already made their money regardless of their level of service. The facilities were spotless. The staff bent over backwards for us. Not to mention it cost us about 1/3 to have it done there. (Thanks obama) Dr Hidalgo in Puerto Vallarta is amazing. I'd recommend it to anyone considering surgery.
  20. Two weeks out I am -6 pounds. I'm using the fitbit Aria scale that charts my weigh ins and the patterns are starting to show. Basically I'm gaining half a pound a day for two days, then on the third day I lose three. So when it all washes out, I'm getting a net loss of about 3 - 4 pounds a week. It's just scary to see the scale stall for two days before each movement. Thanks for the support.
