I loved President Hinckley. I also love President Monson and I'm excited to see the effects of him being the President of the Church.

That Explains A Lot If This Is The Result Of Typing In All Caps. Why Type In All Caps Unless You're Yelling? Maybe You Don't Have To Shift As Often For The Words That Need Capitalizing?

Shinyhappymommy replied to Ready4-a-new-me's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My dh said it reminds him of the spam sort of typing so things will get through filters, like vIa'grA or something similar. To the OP: Good luck with everything on your surgery. -
Dr. Rutledge (the one who seems to be the only one posting negative YouTube videos) has a stick up his butt. He is on a crusade or something against the LapBand. If you're actually wanting to go through with your surgery, I suggest you avoid the negative stuff, especially from him, as he seems to have an agenda. I'm not saying the stories are fabricated, but there are so many success stories, that is where I am putting my focus. Deep breath. You'll be okay.

Anyone have small children at the time of surgery?
Shinyhappymommy replied to txaberry's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon approved me to lift my 23 pound baby. He's almost 12 months old. I'll try to get help as much as I can, but if I need to lift him I will. You'll have to check with your own surgeon to find out his or her specific restrictions. Good luck. -
I've been wondering why some posts look like titles to a book With Every Single Word Capitalized. I'm guessing there's some setting that makes it that way, other than the person making the effort to shift at the beginning of each word. I find that particularly hard to read.

Definition....according to media?
Shinyhappymommy replied to VegasGrace's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm used to people mischaracterizing my religion (LDS) as not Christian. I'm past getting frustrated about it, but it is pretty silly. -
Pre-Op Diet . . . What's yours?
Shinyhappymommy replied to Lori_K's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My surgery is scheduled for this coming Friday (AAAH!) and my surgeon told me three days of liquids before and that's about it. I almost didn't see the note about no anti-inflammatories (for 7 days before) and I do take Advil from time to time. So that's one to watch out for. I got a power point presentation from my nutritionist via email and in it she says to do a 7 day liquid diet. I about freaked because mentally I wasn't ready to be done with food today. She said my surgeon had advised the 3 days for me so that was fine. I'm going to dinner w/ my dh on Monday night, the night before I begin, so I'm glad we can still do that. We never go out, so it's a real treat. -
Protein supplements and Multi-vitamins
Shinyhappymommy posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm having surgery in a couple of weeks and I've been rereading my surgeons written materials. For the first week after surgery I'm supposed to be on Clear liquids, but he also says "You should try to purchase a Protein drink and try to consume at least 60 grams of protein per day." I was under the impression that Protein drinks and powders weren't considered clear liquids. At any rate, I'm not sure which Protein powder to buy. I live in a rural town with a Wal-mart Supercenter as my only option for a store and there are only a couple of protein supplements available here. I could wait until I go to Denver for the surgery and buy something then. I just don't want to end up with a huge container of something I don't like and have to choke down for that whole week. Also, I'm not sure about the Multivitamin supplement. I've had people who peddle Vitamins really put down any vitamins you can buy in the store as inferior and ineffective. So I'm left confused. My surgeons guidelines on the Vitamin supplement are: "a multivitamin and mineral at 100% the RDA or higher and 200% of the RDA or higher for major B complex vitamins, particularly for thiamin." What have you guys found effective. I would rather not have to special order vitamins and be able to work with what I can get at Wal-mart, but are these going to be effective? -
I am finally scheduled for surgery on February 8th. Now that this is really happening, I have all sorts of things going through my mind. I am mostly upbeat and excited about this change in my life. I am thrilled with the prospect of the positive changes in my life. There are some negatives in there and I just thought I'd get some of them down in words so maybe I can put them behind me. Fears: I'm afraid I will die. I'm afraid that I won't be find the right diet for me post-op. I'm afraid I'll have band complications. I'm afraid I will still have intense urges to eat sweets in large quantities. I'm afraid that I won't lose weight very fast and that people will judge me. I'm a religious person and I know that all of these things are things that I need to put in God's hands and trust Him. I guess I should put down my hopes as well. I have hope that I will become a normal-sized person again. I have hope that I will have renewed energy and vitality in my life. I have hope that I'll become a more involved mother and wife and that I will be able to use my new energy to serve and bless others' lives. I have hope that I will feel pretty again. I haven't felt pretty in so long. I have hope that once I have succeeded in this journey that I can help others along as well. Thanks for reading. Any reassurances are welcome.

Victorious Valentines Blinkies!

Thanks for the blinkie. I actually prefer having that in my signature than my picture. It wasn't my favorite and it looked weird with the compression and everything. -
bad test results back today.....

Just wanted to say that my test results came back normal and I'm set for my surgery on 2-08-08. That's all. -
Not only did he cheat, but continued to live with her unmarried, which is still adultery. I couldn't understand how he can be so judgmental of his daughter's sins while he's living against the very things he's preaching to her about. (There was a scene where he listed homosexuality and adultery in the same list.) When they talked about discovering that she's a lesbian, I thought DUH! I could tell from the first glance that she probably leaned that way. I thought it was really sad and hope that that family can heal and pull together. I loved how open she was to hearing the letters and the love expressed during the intervention. She was so willing to go and get help. Great episode. I'm always bummed when the postscript at the end of the show says they relapsed.

Feeling Reluctant...
Shinyhappymommy replied to redrockgirl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
If you're in a fairly populated area, you might try The Freecycle Network. It's a great resource to both give away and get things for free. The idea is to keep stuff out of landfills by passing it on to others who need it. I used it a lot when I was in St. Louis. It's basically a Yahoo group that people post Offers and Wants on and you email the person and they decide who to give it to, or you decide who to give it to. You'll have to give your address, but usually you just leave the item(s) on the porch and they will pick them up at an agreed on time. This is of course if you're not looking to use ebay. None of my things are ebay-worthy, so freecycle would be a perfect way for me to get rid of things, as well as ask for various sizes of clothes as I go through them. Unfortunately, I'm in an area where we don't have freecycle, so I just have to look back with fondness of the time I got to use it. Can't wait to start having to buy new clothes because these fall off me. Surgery in 8 days! -
bad test results back today.....
Shinyhappymommy replied to bjo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My sister had displasia and had what they call a LEEP procedure where they remove the bad cells with a laser. She has had normal pap smears since then, even through 2 or 3 childbirths. (I can't remember between which kids she had the procedure.) Anyway, I have no idea how this will affect your band surgery. I didn't have to have a pap as part of my pre-op. Of course, I had one less than one year ago, so maybe that's why. Good luck. I'm sorry for the worry you must be going through. I had my blood and EKG done yesterday, so I'm hoping there's nothing that would cause my surgery not to go through. Melissa -
Protein supplements and Multi-vitamins
Shinyhappymommy replied to Shinyhappymommy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for all the advice. I ordered unjury in chocolate, unflavored and chicken Soup. I also bought the Centrum Chewables. So for now I'm set in these two categories. I'm curious about Biotin. I bought some, but am not sure how much to take and when to start taking it. I think they are 1000mcg tablets. Anyone have any experience with this? -
Hi all you wonderful people! I am so excited because I got a call today from the insurance to tell me I'm approved. I would have been really surprised if they had rejected my request because their requirements are pretty straight forward and I fulfill all of them. Anyway, my surgeon's office is ready to fit me in on February 4th or 5th. They weren't sure today which. I'm so excited and nervous all at the same time. I hope I don't die. That would really suck. Other than that, I'm just really excited to get this journey started. I live in rural Kansas and I'm having surgery in Denver, Colorado with Dr. Dave Melniczek. I'm a daycare provider and have three kiddos of my own. I look forward to getting to know more of you. Melissa

Who Has Lost Over 100 Pounds?!?!
Shinyhappymommy replied to Rockin' Robyn's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yay! :wink2: -
We're also planning on moving this summer and only started the process in December. I'm planning on getting banded February 8th. It might not take as long as you fear and I figured I'll be well on my way to losing weight by the time we move. Good luck with everything and welcome!

Does this sound strange to you??

If I remember correctly, you get a code to imbed into your signature. It should be available right on the page where you made the ticker. -
Can anyone recommend a good/inexpensive mini food processor to grind/blend my food?
Shinyhappymommy replied to ds0911's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm currently waiting for my Magic Bullet to come in the mail. I'm not sure how long shipping takes, but I'm hoping it comes before too long. It was $99 for two, and my sister and I are going in together on them, but the killer was shipping. $20 each for a total of $40 of shipping. We thought that was outrageous. -
I'm so excited!!!! Whoooweee!!!!
Shinyhappymommy replied to Gibson's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Congratulations!! My initial visit was on December 12th. That day also included the pscyh eval and the nutritional consult. My surgery is tentatively planned for February 8th as long as we actually get the letter from the insurance that they have supposedly sent saying I'm approved. I have BCBS Federal Employee Program which so far is turning out to be great. -
Calling all Feb. Bandsters! Tell us about yourself!
Shinyhappymommy replied to Gibson's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi, I'm Melissa. I'm 35. I live in rural Kansas, came here from St. Louis (Hi St. Louisans!:rolleyes2:) but I'm originally from northern Utah. My husband's job will have us transferring a couple more times, so who knows where we'll end up. I run a day care from my home and have three kids of my own. My youngest, a boy, is 11 months old and then we have two older girls, ages 7 and 9. I'm having surgery in Denver, CO and I'm really stressed right now because I haven't been officially scheduled. It's supposed to be on February 8th, but the pre-service review approval letter hasn't arrived at the Surgeon's office yet and they can't schedule me until they have it in hand. We did already arrange for my dh to have work off, so if the date has to change it will really be a problem. He's planning on being there for the surgery (not literally) and then being off work for an additional 6 days off. He'll be able to help with our baby and even with the daycare kids if I decide to have them back that soon. I'm blessed to have good insurance that will cover 90% of the surgery. I'm also blessed to have a surgeon who only charges 10K. That helps make my 10% not be so much. I have a BMI of 41, I think, and I weigh about 300 or 302. At 5 ft. 8, I think my goal is 160 lbs, though like many of you have said, I'll be glad with anything significantly less than I am now. I can't wait to see Onederland again. I have a wonderfully supportive husband as well as family and friends. I know this journey won't be easy, but neither is being fat. -
Unjury unflavored in my coffee for added protein??
Shinyhappymommy replied to Pizzaman's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Those who order Unjury, how long did the shipping take? I have surgery on the 8th of February and want to get around then so I can start using it my 1st week of liquids.
