Add me to the 100 lb club WOOHOO!!!
Shinyhappymommy replied to Mom2_4's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Congratulations! I'm getting so close, but those 12 pounds in between me and that mark seem to be looming so large. I'm excited to be at the 90 mark soon, then I'll look forward the 100. Once I hit that mark, I'll be 4 pounds away from Onederland, so there's a whole bunch coming up all at once. If I can be there by Christmas, at 199, what a great present that will be to myself. Keep up the good work. -
Banded for 6 months-reflections
Shinyhappymommy replied to michelle88's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
What a great post. Thanks for sharing those reflections. I wanted to point out a couple of things: First, it's very common to hit a plateau at about 6 months post-op. Very common. Secondly, I finally started exercising consistently at about 5 1/2 months post op. I pretty much hit a 6 week plateau. But the weight is coming off again. I believe I was building my muscle core and now it's going to help me burn off this remaining fat. You're doing great. Keep up the good work and don't get discouraged if things slow down. It's normal! :tongue2: -
Overeating before surgery?
Shinyhappymommy replied to a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know that for me whenever something is going to be forbidden soon, I am drawn to that. It is such a mental game, but it is a reality for me. That's why I try not to completely deny anything out of my diet, but let it in in moderate amounts. When I was pregnant with my son, I had almost no appetite for sweets--until the doctor suggested that I might have gestational diabetes. Since I knew that would mean a sharp decrease in sugar intake, I suddenly began craving sweets that I hadn't been interested in previously. It's normal to have such a reaction to knowing that you're going to be making a change. I actually did quite a bit of last-supper type eating before my surgery. But once I had to start my pre-op diet and once I had the surgery, I was completely committed and have been very successful with the band. So do the best you can, but don't be hard on yourself. This is a big step and a little scary. But oh, so worth it. Melissa -
Clothes Falling off of me!! HELP!!
Shinyhappymommy replied to detroitdame75's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I second the freecycle.org idea. It's a great resource for both getting things you need and giving away things you don't anymore. (Not just for clothes, either.) -
Fluid in band before first fill?
Shinyhappymommy replied to kaytiebugs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon told me that they flush the band with saline as a quality check and that it's not always possible to get it all out. -
I'm happy to report in that I'm down three pounds from last week's one pound gain, giving me a new weight, two pounds lower than I had seen. So as of this morning I'm 215. I didn't record it as such, but after running and going to the bathroom again, I saw 213! That's pretty fun. But my official weight for today is 215. (I did have the diarrhea sickness hit, so that may be part of the loss, but I'll take it.)

Plain and simple, you are too tight. You need to be able to eat real food and not pb all the time trying to get in your solid Protein. Get your surgeon to listen to you or find one who will. It sounds like you already know this, but you're unsure of yourself. Trust yourself. You know your body best and you sound like you know you're not eating what you need to to be healthy. Often people slow on their weight loss because they are too tight. It can be as bad or worse than being too loose. Get some Fluid out and eat some proper nutrition to fuel your body.

Yesterday morning I woke up with sudden, severe diarrhea, and I could tell the vomiting was going to be coming on soon. In between bouts, I ran and got an anti-nausea pill, and took it. After a few minutes, it hadn't done anything and I started vomiting. I asked dh for a priesthood blessing while I was in the midst of heaving. He came and administered to me and my heaving subsided immediately and never returned. I continued having problems out the other end, but the vomiting, which I want to avoid at all costs for my bands sake, was gone. It was amazing. The interesting footnote to this is that both of my daughters woke up sick as well and they vomited multiple times each. So whatever we all had, had potential to cause more vomiting, but didn't. It doesn't matter to me if it was a combination of both the medicine and the blessing, but it was sure a dramatic difference to me and I feel blessed.

Thanks, me too. My poor little toddler seems to have it now, poor guy. I don't like it when stomach ailments are in my home!
-
Also forgot to mention that dh didn't get that position. So at least that stress is gone. He's continuing to apply for other places, but I don't have such strong opinions about these places, just that one. So we'll just have to see what happens.

I'm so tempted to weigh today. I got really sick with the runs and a little vomiting yesterday morning and was on liquids all day yesterday. I can see the the slight swelling I usually have in my ankles is down, so I must weight less. But then, by my official weigh day (Tuesday) I'll be back up from eating solids again, so I think I'll just avoid the whole mind game and see what Tuesday brings.

Look at you Mom2-4! You're all but there! So close!

Congrats, Jamie! I can't wait to join the ranks. Less than 20 pounds to go!
-
Hooray! That's a great milestone.

Thanks! One of my talents is cake decorating, so don't look if you can't handle it. Mostly they don't look delicious, just cute, so I hope people don't mind. Here are a few samples of my work.

Thanks, Guys. I just had to say, Ezma! You're so close to your halfway mark. Sweet!! You are doing awesome!!

Here's my first attempt at painting. It was a paint-by-number, so really it was like coloring in a coloring book, albeit a little more complex. I like it enough to hang it on my wall.

Miss Jake, With all due respect, the woman at the top is our very own Boo Boo Kitty and a real Lapband success story. I'm glad to see her smiling face up there reminding me what is possible. There are plenty of men's success stories, especially on the Before and After Pictures thread. Just keep looking around and welcome.

I'm sad to report that I am one pound up from last week's weigh in. It bites to only weigh once a week and see a gain on that day. I'm thinking of going back to daily weigh ins. I've increased my exercise a bit. I'm doing the Couch to 5 K and started week 2 today which was 20 minutes of alternating between running (more like jogging) for 90 seconds, walking for 2 min. I wasn't sure if I could handle it, but I did fine. I'm also bummed about regular life stuff. My husband is trying for a job we reeeealy want for its location. We expected to hear by now, so every hour of every day that goes by without word, I have less and less hope. I haven't felt down much at all since my surgery, so it's weird to me. And I don't have a nice weight loss this morning to pull me out of it. Sigh.

Dr. Chae in Denver, Colorado
Shinyhappymommy replied to Bethanyblondie's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I'm not 100% positive about this, but I could swear a friend of mine was changing to him and that he was going to be out of town for a few weeks about now. You might just check with his office and see if that's the case or if you've fallen between the proverbial office cracks. -
Anyone experiencing change of taste/smell?
Shinyhappymommy replied to Mom2_4's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was going to go the pregnancy route. LOL. I had the same thing happen with certain butter and even water during my last pregnancy. It went away afterward. -
Getting back on the "band" wagon
Shinyhappymommy replied to Maryam's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Maryam, Big hugs to you! What a road you've been down. I'm so sorry for the loss of your friend and sorry for the loss of your momentum on the weight loss path. But at the same time, I'm so happy for you that you've come to the place you are in--ready to do what you need to again. Hey, at least you don't have to have surgery again, go through the post-op diet, etc. You're already ahead of the game. Good luck with everything and please come here for support. It's a great place to be. Melissa -
Banded 2 years ago..no weight loss
Shinyhappymommy replied to jgandg's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I think that's very possible that you never got enough restriction. For me getting the right fill really helped with the feeling of hunger. Although getting full feels different with the band than without. It's higher up in the body and you have to learn how to recognize it. I always read people's comments about how whenever you're ready to work the band, it's still there, waiting for you. I hope that rings true for you. By the way not all docs are that conservative with fills, but it's not always a good thing because they end up overfilling patients. Keep at it and you'll get there. You have the tool, you might as well get it to the point where it actually is helping you. -
Well, I'm in the juvenile world, I suppose. We play Disney's Toontown Online. We love it. It's not just for kids, in fact a lot of adults play.

I didn't get facebook for a long time, but I am finally enjoying it. I think more and more people I know are getting into it, so it makes it more fun.
