Creative way to keep track of my water intake
Shinyhappymommy replied to Shinyhappymommy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It's working well, but I keep having to take them off at work or home when I'm getting my hands into water, etc. I do like it, though, it's helping me keep track much better than without. -
I just got a fill yesterday and the surgeon told me that my port is moving around and has likely become detached from my abdominal wall. He didn't seem very concerned about it and said it will need to be fixed if he can't access it in the future. I'm not freaking out about it, but I'm wondering if I should go ahead and have him fix it before any problems arise. Any experience in this area?

Yay, Ezma! I was hoping to see a lower number this morning, but I lost a couple of pounds over the weekend after my fill, so I'm not complaining. I don't know about the next phases of the diet. Honestly, I think I'm going to do this first week of phase 1 and then transition to what my surgeon's guidelines are. I really dislike the concept of being on a diet. It messes with my psyche a little. I'm having the same Breakfast as yesterday, hopefully giving myself enough time to eat it. I got my exercise done this morning, doing day 1 of week 6 of Couch to 5 K. Total of 18 minutes running and 11 minutes walking, interspersed in there. I'll check in later.

Well, I did pretty good. For dinner I had some canned chicken breast, salsa and guacamole (I didn't use any fats at lunch, so I used my lunch fats at dinner.) Also some Acorn Squash which I'm unsure of whether or not it is approved. It wasn't on either list, so I ate it anyway. Then tonight I had some cook-n-serve, sugar-free chocolate pudding made with 1% milk. It wasn't on the list, but milk is okay and sugar free Jello is okay, so I justified this treat. I added some vanilla to it after cooking and it was very yummy. I also got all my Water in! I need to get to bed because tomorrow starts early, like 5 a.m.!

I did my T-tapp Total Workout this morning. It takes about 50 minutes. For breakfast I made a 2 egg omelet with sauteed bell peppers and mushrooms, and mozzarella cheese on it. I was in too big of a hurry and didn't have enough time to eat it all. I probably ate 2/3 of it. For lunch I had some baked tilapia seasoned with lemon and dill (later thought maybe I shouldn't have had the lemon juice because it's a fruit, but oh well) and some canned green Beans. Only ate a little over half of the fillet. 'm loving this fill. It seems just right. I'm still able to drink Water at regular speed, but I'm getting full enough faster that I'm probably eating about 2/3 of what I had been eating before. Nice. I'm right on track with my water intake. The bracelets are really helping! Not sure yet what to have for dinner. Maybe the rest of this fish. I'm not getting in anywhere near 2 cups of veggies, but adjust it to band portions.

lindar, I'm doing this because I am eating more carbs these days than I should be and I wanted to do something kind of drastic to get myself off of them. I did just get a fill, so hopefully the two together will net great results. I don't feel like I need to diet, per se. I just need to restructure the foods I'm eating. It's honestly not all that different from my surgeon's guidelines, with the exception of whole grains not being in the South Beach plan (phase 1) and they are in my nutritionist's recommendations. I'm still on soft foods after my fill, so it will be interesting tomorrow to try to work the program and the after-fill diet guidelines. We'll see how it goes.

I've got a few things I wanted to share with you guys. First, I found out yesterday that my port is detached. I was able to get my fill, but he said he'd need to repair it if we can't access it. I think I'd rather just get it fixed then always worry about it, KWIM? Plus, if I want to get pregnant, and I do, just not sure when, I definitely want that port where it can be accessed. Secondly, I got my period back. I'm so happy about this. It's been since my early 20s, 12 years ago, that I had a regular period. I've had periods, but usually induced by hormones, etc. and had to be on fertility to get pregnant with my youngest. I just wasn't' ovulating any more from being so heavy. I stopped taking bc pills last month and was curious to see what would happen this month. Well, I got a period! Yay! Thirdly, I ran for 20 minutes today. I'm at the end of week 5 of the Couch to 5K program. It was so amazing to complete such a huge milestone for me. I cried tears of joy when I was through. :tongue_smilie: I'm so happy to be where I am right now. Thanks for listening.

Just want to talk a little
Shinyhappymommy replied to Shinyhappymommy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yeah, and it's a three hour drive for me to get to Denver where he is, so that would really stink! Couch to 5 K has been amazing for me. I cannot believe the progress I've made. I also can't believe that I'm enjoying running. I used to wonder why anyone would run on purpose, but now I'm really getting into it. -

This morning I'm down two pounds, putting me at 100 pounds less than my all time high of 311. So excited about that. Have you tried a sports bra lately, Ezma? I've been surprised how well I can do and I'm still a 36 G bra. Of course the cup size isn't included on these cheapie sports bras I use, but I got a 36 and have to maneuver to get those puppies in there, but they're good and secure and I have no problems running. Wow, talking about my breasts and my period in the same thread! :w00t: I do sweat, but not to excess. I actually enjoy seeing that I'm sweating more because usually that's a gauge of how much harder I'm working, exercise-wise. Sweating tells me I'm burning fat and I love that. Thanks for telling me about your surgery. That helps me feel a little better about it. I am not scared about this right now, but wondering what the best way is going to be to approach dealing with it. Have a great rest-of-your-weekend! -
That's awesome! I know just what you mean because I've been working up to doing more running and it's just an amazing feeling to realize how far I've come. Keep up the good work.

Hang in there, Jaime! I'm so sorry you're having to deal with depression. I have struggled with it as well, though I've been fine for the last couple of years. I pray that it continues that way. You can do this. You're stronger than whatever trial you're facing.

Sweet! I'm going to start a separate thread for the South Beach stuff.

I'm getting a fill on Friday. Monday I'm going to start the South Beach Phase 1. Anyone want to join me? http://www.southbeach-diet-plan.com/shoppinglist_p1.htm I figure this is the only way I'm going to get off of sugar again. I did so well for a long time, but things have really crept back into my diet again and I need to get them out. Out!

Tap, Thanks, but honestly, I think that picture makes me look smaller than I really am. Of course, that's why I use it! Keep up the good work on your exercise!

Checking in. I'm back down to 214, my lowest weight so far, again. I'm really looking forward to this fill on Friday. I hope it makes a big difference.

Why cant i have sex?!?!
Shinyhappymommy replied to ImWithTheBand22's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not sure. My surgeon didn't even mention it. -
Okay, I'm going to venture over to this thread. I've been reading it all along, but not posting because I'm not having problems with ice cream or nuts. Well, I'm here to confess that I have a problem with graham crackers and chocolate chips. Ugh. I finally had to say that we're not having graham crackers in the house for a while. My dh dearly loves them. He puts down a whole package of them (8 of the rectangles) in one sitting with a glass of milk. So I was feeling like I was doing well with only three of them. Well, that's more than I should be consuming and I have been doing it more often than I should. I've been neatly controlling my portions of chocolate by only buying the Ghirardelli squares, the 60% cacao ones. Well, I bought some of the same chocolate, only in chocolate chips and I'm having trouble staying out of them. They have flavanoids and antioxidants, right? hah! I'm not totally ready to make a clean break yet. I'm getting a much-needed fill on Friday, and am having a little of the last supper syndrome all over again. I'm not going all out, but not being as strict as I know I should be. So I'm not making a specific commitment just yet. I just need to get it out that I'm having some trouble. Carbs have snuck back into my diet way too much with crackers, etc. I'm looking into the South Beach stuff since Lil Miss had such great results recently on that. Maybe I'll ease into that once I'm off my post-fill liquids. Phew. Glad I got that out.

Ever been refunded overpayment?

Not as fast, but I had expected the refund to take longer, so I was pleasantly surprised. -

I just got $725 back because of a problem with the surgery center's billing policy. It's sure a change to have medical places paying us for a change. -
NSV -- Just wanted to share
Shinyhappymommy replied to CynthiaMcC's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
That's so awesome to know people are talking about you in a good way. Congrats on the NSV. You're doing great! -
Dang it all, I'm up another two pounds today. I scheduled a fill for next Friday. I'm hungrier than I've been since my surgery. I just hope I can avoid gaining before that fill.

Will I be able to...
Shinyhappymommy replied to HelloPenny's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not sure that it was the best advice, but my surgeon cleared me to lift my 1 year old boy, about 22 pounds as soon as I needed to after surgery. I still had dh lift him for me most of the time. Florida Pete, you can certainly snuggle and hold your child, just have someone else put him on your lap. You may have to be strategic about where he sits so as not to bump your incisions, but it's certainly doable.
