So did the surgeon put back the fill when all was said and done?
-
Crystal, That sounds like a very reasonable approach. Good luck!

Our stake center is about 2.25 hours away. It's quite a trip to get there. I really feel for those in our branch who have Stake Callings and have to travel there frequently. I'm wondering if Nunya is the beginning of Nunyabusiness or something similar. I've also never heard of Nunya, Utah. One of the places we're looking at relocating to is the Kansas City area. We'll have to see if that pans out. I might need doctor recommendations.

This year has gone by quickly. Things have slowed down considerably, but still seem to be heading in a downward direction. Hope you're having a nice holiday season.

Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving
Shinyhappymommy replied to Ezma's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I traveled to St. Louis to be with my sister and her family. The actual day of Thanksgiving went great. We started off running a 5K Turkey Trot which was awesome! Then we had a late dinner and I didn't feel like I overate. I enjoyed the different foods that we had, but didn't get uncomfortably full. I was there for 9 days and in that time I ran 5K four times, did a 2.5 hour "Work out after you pig out" at the Y, also an aerobics class and a workout video a couple of times. I want to focus on that because I didn't do great on my eating for the last few days. The worst night was my dd's b-day party. There were corn dogs, and breaded cheese sticks and funnel cakes, all home made. I felt like crap afterwards even though I didn't eat as much as I used to, it was still not the greatest choices. I'm going to weigh in a couple of days to see what the damages are. My legs are swollen and I know my pounds are up. We'll see in a couple of days what happens. I do feel good about the exercise. Now to keep it up! -
I won't be living in the same area forever. In fact, we'll probably only live here another 6 -9 months. If I have surgery with a certain surgeon, and fills are part of that price, what happens when I move? Am I just out of luck? Have any of you had to have another doctor work on your band for slippage, or removal because you have moved? I've heard some say that surgeons won't touch someone else's patients sometimes, but I can't live in the same place forever and I don't want to wait until I'm sure I'm not going to move before getting the surgery. Anyone else have experience with this?

Creative way to keep track of my water intake
Shinyhappymommy posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My sister suggested this: I bought some bangle bracelets tonight and tomorrow I will put 8 of them on one wrist. As I tackle each of my 8 glasses of water, I will switch one of the bracelets to the other wrist. That way, I'll always know how much water I have left to drink that day. I start tomorrow. -
Starting phase 1 next Monday. I haven't ever done this before, so I'm going to have to read up on it. Here's a website that lays the plan out: South Beach Diet food List for Phase 1 Sounds pretty similar to how I ate immediately after regaining my ability to eat solid foods post surgery. Should help me kick the carbs.

Trinity2008,
Thanks for the kind words. Everyone's journey is so different, but I have learned a lot of very useful things by reading others' stories. I'm glad you're enjoying my blog. Please feel free to pm me if you have any specific questions.

Oh, and the seatbelt fit! The steward actually asked me to tighten it when we were taking off!

Bikini- What did you find out? I hope everything is okay. -
It's out. I had a stack sitting on the porch when hubby got home last night and he took care of it. Probably took it to work. My official weight this morning was 212. Ugh. A 3 pound weight gain this week. A bit of a wake up call. It's all my eating because my exercise hasn't changed at all.
-
Well, for what it's worth, I've gained back all that I lost on this diet. I did it for a week and coming off of it I ended up eating worse than I was to begin with. Diets aren't good for me mentally. It suddenly becomes all or nothing and that's not how I've been approaching my diet since surgery at all. I'm trying to get my feet under me again. I didn't have any sweets today, (unless you count my gummy vitamins), one day down, the rest of my life to go. Hang in there Ezma. I don't know the answer to all of this, but we do have these bands to help us. I'm very grateful for that.

It's a dreary Monday morning - let's chat

Jaime! Congratulations. Is this a total surprise? -
tapshoes, That's awesome! Congratulations. I'm up a couple pounds after stopping my South Beach Diet plan. It's a mental game with me and it has been like going off a diet and eating forbidden things because I'm no longer doing it. I need a kick in the pants. Well, actually I need to get the stupid Halloween junk out of the house. It's all got to go. I'm also really retaining water. A nursing student I was visiting with yesterday said I have a level 3 pitting edema. So I know some of the weight is water, but I'm not eating very well, so I know it's that too. Tomorrow is my official weigh day, so we'll see what happens.
-
I'm not on Phase one or any phase right now for that matter. Good for you Ezma, you've got great determination. I'll have to see if my weight continues to go down the way I'm eating right now. If not, we'll see about some changes. I'm eating a lot better than I was pre-South Beach plan, but not as good as I could be.
-
That is wonderful that your band is in good condition. That also stinks that you didn't get the fill you thought you did. Do you get a refund? You should. Good luck with this new fill.
-
208 again today. I think I must not be getting enough calories. I'm adding back in some fruit and whole grains. Maybe that will help.
-
Hi Guys. Had a busy day yesterday, so I didn't check in. My weight has been steady at 208 every day since I hit it. I love that. It tells me I really did hit this weight, and that it's not a fluke. Hopefully I'll see some more loss soon. We had an annual harvest party for our church yesterday, so I gave myself the afternoon off from sticking to the South Beach. I had dessert, but I did stick to a low carb meal choice of chili with cheese. I was happy to still see that 208 this morning. The cool thing is that I'm not having trouble staying on plan today which I was worried about a little. I'll count tomorrow as the official weight, but as of right now I've lost 3 pounds since starting this. I did loose two pounds over the previous weekend from getting a fill, so I've lost five in the last 9 days. That's so fun. I'll let you guys know what tomorrow brings. I just accepted a job catering for a local shop that's having an open house in a couple of weeks. We are in the planning phase right now, trying to figure out recipes, etc. I can't not taste what I'm cooking, so I'm going to have to not be perfect this week on my eating plan. We'll see how things go. Ideally, I'd like to make sure I'm still eating on track for what I can do,, and then just treat the tasting I need to do as just part of a job, not a binge! Wish me luck!

I see the difference in your chin and your stomach. Keep up the good work!

Have you talked to your surgeon? If you honestly think your band has slipped, you need to have that checked out under x-ray or flouroscope. I'm sorry you are struggling so much, but you do have this band inside of you, why not try a little harder to see if you can't get it to work for you? Good work on the exercise. Keep it up. It will help you in many ways.

I've started weighing daily again because I'm not on a plateau right now and it's helpful and motivating to see the scale move. I lost another two pounds. I'm really enjoying seeing this weight coming off. Maybe I'll stick with it for a second week, I'm not sure. I know I need to start getting carbs because I'm running and that's important fuel for that. My nutritionist was enthusiastic about phase 2, but not phase 1 of this plan for that reason. Anyway, I'm very happy about this right now. I'm having the same thing for Breakfast today that I did yesterday. Don't know about the rest of the day.

Welcome, New People! That is great that you'll be one of the Saints benefiting from one of the new temples. What an exciting time.
-
I forgot to check in yesterday, even forgot it was my official weekly weigh day, so here it is--I lost 3 pounds this week! 211 was yesterday's weight, and I'm down one more today, at 210. So the fill is working and the South Beach plan can't be hurting too much either. Yay for numbers going down.
-
How is everyone doing? I lost a pound! Yay! I'm now 210. Inching ever so much closer to Onederland. I mixed things up this morning and had some cottage cheese with tomatoes and little bit of avocado. It was good. Exercise is done and hopefully I can figure out some good meals for lunch and dinner. I'm going to go look at that recipe link above.
