I too had a re-emergence of a decades old hernia to be repaired next month. Not uncommon from what my surgeon told me. loss of muscle mass show flaws hidden that have been overgrown by muscle that is now lost. It stops pretty much when your weight loss stops, I think I'm at that place now ( grateful ! )

I use it a lot ! all the protein of peanut butter but 80% less calories and protein ! pile it on !

Thank you for replying ! I wanted the best possible results for myself but the DS is the last gasp solution, Kaiser will do as a rehab or near death but quality of life is poor. R&Y worked great for me from Kaiser as you can see. Dr. Mun was my surgeon, and unlike most he only hand sews everything inside instead of staples, he feels he has greater control and staples can catch food creating problems and blockages. Just thought I'd let you know -

Did my Options program with Kaiser in Downey with some additional classes at South Bay. Both of those programs are excellent if they are being considered at all. I'm curious that you mentioned Duodenal Switch. That is a severe procedure reserved for near life threatening UBER OBESITY or reconstructive salvage for VERY BAD patients who completely failed with the sleeve, it is not for the 45 to 60 + BMI patients, further expect massive daily Vitamin supplements and eternal diarrhea. GOOD LUCK -
Calories, Calories, Calories...UGH!
Steve Puckett replied to Marathongirl's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Premier Protein shakes & No FAT Cottage Cheese are the keys and what I still consume mostly. Pollock is also excellent for very low calories and high protein -
Exercising ????? That's the first question I have for stalled patients, then its ARE YOU LOGGING ALL YOUR food ???? in particular look at calories and fats. With all the digestive parts removed now and still stalling, I believe if you take care of the two issues that I've mentioned ( reduce caloric intake & EXERCISE ) thing will be fine, no magic here. Take care.

I had one that hurt more than the others though not as bad as you describe, keep a watch out for infection or excessive fluid build up and if there are ANY doubts, see your doctor !!!

Smart !!!! I also stay mostly with soft/wet foods even at 9 1/2 months out, IT WORKS, no major stalls and I've put very one in my post operative support group to shame with my results. Keep up the great work !!!

Me too, when ever I smell fresh Maple Bars or hot pizza w/ extra cheese I salivate ( of course I did that before surgery too )

Weight loss stalled how to restart it
Steve Puckett replied to walkaboutlady's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
For proper advice you should provide honest exercise amounts, daily caloric in take and Protein intake. the answer to what you need to do lies in these facts. I doubt that you are starving if your weight loss stopped and still maintaining an 80 lbs. surplus. -
Calories, Calories, Calories...UGH!
Steve Puckett replied to Marathongirl's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Well, I'm 9 1/2 months post-op and down 201 lbs. I still consume mostly softer foods, Protein of about 80 grams a day and calories about 700 a day. I walk a brisk 5 miles six days a week and do about 300 push ups and 400 bicep curls ( with 5 lbs. 0 daily ). The equation is simple, keep calories low, work out alot and you will have success. Hunger is only in your mind now with the gift of by-pass surgery. Your trainer want to keep the job and if he/she senses that you want to eat more and implies that you should consume more, they win and if you gain some weight or fail to lose more, they win because you really need the trainer, Right ? -
sugar free as opposed to "No Sugar Added" should be fine. chocolate by definition is made with sugar, the Cocoa bean is verr bitter and Chocolate is made with sugar. If in doubt, read the label for carb content which should be very low ( less than ten I would suppose ) if it is sugar free.

Steve Puckett posted a topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I'm down near my goal weight. My HMO will remove excess stomach skin, that's it. I heard of a Plastic surgery place in or near Santa Monica that uses supervised Medical Students and the cost is VERY low except regular price for anesthesiologist. Can't get any mor details ??? Can somebody help me or make another low cost option for arm, butt, thigh, chest removal of excess skin in Southern California ?? -

Bypass didn't work, 2 surgical issues
Steve Puckett replied to Bariatric Bypass's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I feel so sorry for you. The quality of your surgeons and care are terrible. I have a love hate relationship with my small stoma which has caused two trips to the Emergency Room, but then again, that's why I chose the RNY instead of the sleeve, to punish me if I'm not perfect and has paid off with great weight loss success. Please pursue all legal means against you surgeon and caregivers that your legal system will allow, in the U.S. the legal system bullies the medical profession so the doctors are very careful and make things right. If you are stuck with the large stoma, hopefully you don't feel real hunger and can at least use that "tool" to limit quantity of food consumed and log every thing eaten to control your weight. -
Well said Rachel. Your body fights the weight loss but physics wins in the end. Simply put if you burn more calories than you take in, YOU WILL LOSE WEIGHT. If you have stopped losing weight either/and reduce caloric intake and increase exercise PERIOD. Your Bariatric surgery has given you a tool most mortals don't have to combat hunger, use those tools.
