What is my story? That's a good question.
I have always been "the big girl/woman" that's how people have described me. I didn't know any different I was just being me a happy go lucky person. I was told its puppy fat or your just big boned and you will grow out of it, lol I never did. Through the years I tried every diet going pills, slimming clubs, excercise, starving myself, injections and calorie counting diets you name it I done it. I would loose weight for a while but it would pile back on worst than when I started. I always felt there was another me, a more healthier slimmer me somewhere deep down, I wanted to meet the other me.
In 2012 I had a stroke, the docs told me if I continued my lifestyle of eating, smoking and unhealthy living I would have more strokes or heart failure. It was seeing my family what they went through and the heart ache it caused, I decided to have surgery.
Initially I was going for the gastric band and my surgeon said no it had to be the bypass due to my health, which took me by surprise. It has taken me time to accept mentally, now I am so ready for this.
I am having my surgery with NHS and I have completed all my assessments, and in the final stages of mentally being prepared by attending weekly emotional eating or head eating groups for the next 4 weeks and hopefully I will have a date once completed.
I know I will benefit from being on this forum from having a support network with others who are like me preparing for surgery and support after surgery. I hope others are inspired by my story and journey just as much as they inspire me.
