Options Prgm with Kaiser
wheezysmom replied to LoveMyBypass's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I kept a perfect food journal, I felt like if I left things out I was only cheating myself. And actually having to bring out the journal and log stuff was enough of a deterrent from snacking a lot of times. I simply didn't feel like getting up to get the journal and input the information lol As for those quizzes, we took them individually but we always went over the answers in class. The answers were very easy, if you paid any attention to the information in the class you will pass the test. I don't remember if they were collected though. -
Has anyone lost 100+ pounds?
wheezysmom replied to provenzee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's most definitely possible. HW 278 SW 260 Weight day of surgery 236 CW 153 I had surgery in July 2015 and I couldn't be more happy with my results. Especially since I remember thinking that I would never be able to get the weight off because just felt like such a high number. I thought my doctor was crazy with the goal of 150 that he set for me but as you can see I am basically there. Good luck to you! -
Transdermal Multi Vitamin Patches
wheezysmom replied to hurricanecarla's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was also having a hard time with vitamins. The bariatric ones didn't sit well on my stomach and I would throw up the regular ones. I asked my NUT about the patches and she said no because there was no proof they actually worked. I am on flinstone vitamins right now and my labwork looks fine. -

wheezysmom replied to LoveMyBypass's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@almond_jay I did all of this at Kaiser South Bay. Try not to borrow trouble by worrying about the labs. I was also vitamin D deficient. I was given the mega dose but I know I didn't finish those pills and they never re-checked my vitamin D levels, only my electrolytes prior to surgery. -

@ they kept telling us in class that it would be 4-6 weeks after we graduated that the surgeon's office would call. As you can see from my timeline that definitely wasn't the case. I think they were giving us a greater timeline so we wouldn't keep calling back for an update. I don't think they choose by last name (that would have sucked for me). They may have chosen by the amount of weight lost though. I lost 19.6lbs during the program, which wasn't even the 10% they wanted me to lose. -

I graduated from options on 5/27/15, got the call from the surgeon's office around June 8th, scheduled my consultation for a week later and my surgery date was set for 7/7/15 but was moved to 7/6/15. Good luck to you!! -
Feb 2 surgery
wheezysmom replied to princess of Monaco's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a bag full of crap but the only things I really used and appreciated: Chapstick, my own pillow, my own blanket, a 6' charging cable for my phone, and slippers to walk around the hospital. Good luck to you! -
What, specifically, caused you to become obese?
wheezysmom replied to careya123's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
First of all I do not like working out. The only thing that was controlling my weight in high school was the fact that I was in the swim and tennis team. I know this as fact because I didn't do it senior year and that's when my weight started to balloon. I have an issue with portion control, I love dessert. And I am uppity with mine, I am not eating hostess donuts, I am baking pans of brownies and eating them all with Haagen daas ice cream within a day or 2. Or baking like 8 cookies and eating them with ice cream in one sitting. I could take down a 2 liter of soda in a couple of hours. I always came back for seconds with dinner and the 2nd plate was probably bigger than the first. Got pregnant and that's when I started eating 2nd breakfast/lunch/dinner. And everyday before my husband would get home from work I would be at bob's big boy eating a hot fudge cake. I am still not sure what did it for me but I think I decided I had to do something about my weight when I realized my kid was damn near 1.5 years old and I was still in maternity pants. -

How was goal weight determined?
wheezysmom replied to Freckles70's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was 260lbs when I started the program. My surgeon set his goal for me and then I had a goal in mind. I am 5'5" and looking at the BMI chart I can see his goal is at the high end of a "healthy" weight range. That number is 150. I thought that was crazy talk when he set it and I thought I would never meet it so the goal I set for myself was 175, then 160. Right now I am about 154lbs and wearing between a size 6 and 8, my scrubs are smalls and mediums. -
I personally didn't start getting cold until I started really losing weight but being cold is my new norm. This is coming from someone that used to break a sweat just cooking breakfast. Now, it is not uncommon for me to have on thermals or long johns under my scrubs or jeans.

Information Session - Ramblings
wheezysmom replied to LoveMyBypass's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is absolutely something to be excited about! A lot of good information was given in that session. I am actually of the opinion that those were the slowest 12 weeks of my life but I am glad I went through it. I started options at 260lbs, I had surgery on 7/6 and I am currently 164lbs. -
Clothes - when to purge?
wheezysmom replied to DaisyAmy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am down 80lbs and I had surgery in July (some of that weight was lost pre op). I just went through my closet and got rid of 90% of my clothes. It felt great. -
Lol! The victory dance alone should earn you the mother of the year award ????

My husband is 6'4" 200lbs and has a lean build. He is gaining weight and it's all sitting in his stomach but it doesn't bother me. In fact, I have always wanted him to be bigger because I am normally attracted to the football player build. He is very supportive of my journey and does nothing but help me during this time in my life.

Star Jones weight gain (80 lbs)
wheezysmom replied to hopefullythininme's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The article I found on her weight gain claimed she had the gastric band, not the gastric bypass. While we all know that the weight can be put back on after any weight loss surgery, if she has the band it is very possible that she had it unfilled/removed/etc. -
Have you tried one of those sticks? The one I found on amazon even comes with a carrying case so you can keep it in your purse. http://www.amazon.com/Living-XL-91021179-Bottom-Buddy/dp/B000G39ZIY

Premier Protein Shakes
wheezysmom replied to PlBren's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the same issue and my stomach still doesn't like them over 2 months post op. In fact, my stomach doesn't like 99% of the protein shakes that I have tried, and I think it has a lot to do with that artificial/SF chocolate flavoring. I have been drinking Optifast, which also upsets my stomach but I won't throw it up like I would premier. -
Things I didn't expect my first month post-op
wheezysmom replied to SleeveMe247's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That it would hurt to swallow anything for a couple of weeks. That I would be scolded by the PA because I lost too much weight post op. How little I can eat. That I could no longer tolerate Protein shakes. I am working on it but I get nowhere near enough protein. It takes forever for me to eat a container of yogurt. I still struggle with chewing thoroughly/slowly and not eating too fast. -
Anyone else 6 weeks post op?
wheezysmom replied to nn1985's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am almost 8 weeks post op. I have lost about 40lbs without exercise (I start Water aerobics tomorrow). At my 6 week check up two weeks ago I was scolded because I don't eat enough and I have lost too much weight. In fact, I have lost another 10lbs since I last saw the doctor; she isn't going to be happy with me. It takes me about a hour to drink a Protein shake and the only one I can tolerate right has 14g of protein (in comparison to premier which has 30g). I eat so little that I try to make it count so I will eat meat/eggs and try to snack on nuts and cheese. Then fruits and vegetables. Let's take today for example: I tried to make myself a Protein Drink but my kid drank it all so I had some water. For lunch I had a small apple, again shared with my kid. About 3 hours later I started on my protein drink and finished it. A couple of hours later I had an egg and about 6 grapes. When I got home from work I had 4 slices of sausage (size of a quarter) and 6 penne Pasta. I say all of that to say: I am a work in progress. -
My initial bariatric orientation meeting was mid February. I had 3 months of classes and dr appointments in between. Surgery was on 7/6/15.

Sugar free Candy
wheezysmom replied to kaysunshine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I bought SF gummy bears, See's milk chocolate and Reese's. The gummy bears are a nice treat and I really enjoyed the See's SF milk chocolate because I am not a fan of dark chocolate. None of it upset my stomach but I didn't eat much of it either.
