  1. Well, he basically said this has happened in some of his patients and he said "it WILL get better." Meanwhile, she's barely functioning and I'm working from home afraid to leave her alone. I called them again this morning and he's scheduled another x-ray to see if everything is working OK when she swallows. Pending the results they may order more IV therapy and possibly hospitalization if there is something he finds on the x-rays. I just want them to find something to help with the nausea!! I don't know if the universe was trying to tell me something but yesterday I had a severe sinus headache accompanied by horrible nausea. I get these sometimes...but it really made me realize how intense this is for her. I only had to endure it for a few hours. She's had to endure this for 17 days!
  2. Day 17 Post Op Update...my daughter went in for IV infusion of fluids and IV Zofran and Reglan on Friday afternoon. The nausea did not go away and in fact two hours after the infusion, she was vomiting and vomited a couple times a day all weekend barely able to keep any fluids down. I feel so helpless and lost on what to do! Nothing seems to be working and she's going on day 17 without food and barely any liquids. She is sipping some throughout the day but the nausea is so bad she only does this when I force her to drink.
  3. Yes since surgery she's lost 22 lbs. Kind of a brutal way to do it but at least she's got that going for her.
  4. Yes I'd love to know what they gave you. The surgeon sent her for Iv fluids and iv zofran and reglan yesterday. That did nothing to help and she was vomiting an hour afterwards and again this morning. It's now 15 days Post Op and she has yet to have any nausea relief. The vomit bag is a permanent accessory now.
  5. No, she didn't have a transderm scop. Hmm interesting about the bracelet. I'll look into that more!

    I'm Having a Breakdown

    @@JamieLogical, yes, definitely a process.
  7. Thank you Luvin_Life125. She's been in the ER twice for this in the past two weeks and they rehydrated her with IV fluids. She felt better for a short time after each. But then it would just come back again. It's really wearing her down. She's so young for this too but all of her doctors and specialists agreed this surgery would be great for her. She's sipping Propel which has electrolytes, I'll check to see if Pedialyte has more than Propel. I don't hold out alot of hope with the doctor. His MA has been a bit harsh about all of this. But, I will still push for SOMETHING to help her.
  8. Hahaha Frankensleeve! I will now steal this and call my daughter's sleeve this. Unfortunately, she is 14 days post op and her Frankensleeve is stuck on "Are you paying attention? We are about to vomit" 24/7. We were NOT prepared for this. She started dry heaving yesterday. Frankensleeve woke her up at 4am with the dry heaves again this morning. I have no help for you except to say, thank you for some much needed levity.

    I'm Having a Breakdown

My daughter had her surgery on 3/26 and about a week later had a complete meltdown as well. She is prone to depression but this a heavy one. She had many of the same feelings as you do and also made an observation that her old go to would have been comfort food and she doesn't even have that anymore. In a way I think she was also grieving. It hit her like a ton of bricks - the reality of what she'd done and it was scary. She had done alot of research, talked to a therapist, surgeons, doctors etc about this but none had warned her of how hard it might actually hit her. I agree with CanyonBaby that this should be included in pre-op information.
  10. @@BLERDgirl thank you!
  11. @@Kindle, you are incredibly lucky! My daughter's surgery has been kind of a nightmare. She's day 13 post op and has experienced so much pain, nausea, depression in those 13 days to last all year. She's regretting it. Hopefully things get better. I think that was the most surprising thing for us. The depression hit extremely hard!
  12. So, she's 13 days post op and still the constant nausea. It has eased up from the severe state it was before but it is persistent though her whole day and enough to where she can still barely drink enough fluids. She's supposed to be on full liquids but is pretty much only able to drink Propel and Crystal LIght. She goes back to the surgeon tomorrow so we'll see what he says.
  13. My daughter is going through your exact symptoms as well. She's so nauseated by drinking anything, can't find Protein she can handle without reaching for the barf bag, she can't stand soup either. She's 12 days post op today and still has incredible nausea. I hope things get better soon for both of you! I did find that she tolerated a bit of the unjury unflavored protein in her chai tea and the chocolate wasn't bad either.
  14. Did you have any problems with not drinking while eating? Nausea? If you had nausea before did it help any? Make it worse?
  15. @@CanyonBaby thank you!
  16. Thanks for this idea...I am going to try this next. We've wasted alot of money on Protein Shakes that my daughter can't stomach (no pun intended.) My daughter is 1 week post op and has been so nauseated she can barely handle Water let alone Protein shakes. We've tried Isopure (mango,) Muscle Milk, Spirutien, Boost, GNC Pro Performance all mostly all in vanilla or strawberry because she doesn't like chocolate anything. To those who love Isopure, the Mango Peach is horrible! Do the other flavors taste better? Does anyone know where we can get one serving pouches of the protein so we can try before we spend so much money on a large container of powder? I'm out $30 on the GNC powder alone.
  17. Thanks, all! The nausea is starting to ease up, one week out. The nurse said that it just happens with some more than others and getting off the pain meds should help with the nausea some.
  18. Thank you! It's been one week today and she is starting to feel a little bit better. Every little bit counts. Last night she was really craving food, but as you said, it seems to be head hunger. She's not hungry per se, but wants food. She is still only drinking Water and watered down juice, crystal light etc. The thought of broth or Soup makes her nauseated but the thought of "real food" doesn't. She's still in some pain and the nausea is now letting up but definitely still there. Hopefully each day will make it easier.
  19. Interesting how everyone is different on what their surgeon/dietician recommends. Ours said absolutely no alcohol for one year and even then he said, he recommend no alcohol ever.
  20. Thanks, yes, I'm pushing the fluids and having her get up every hour to walk around. She felt much better after the IV fluids and did OK yesterday on some liquids. I think this hit her harder than she expected and she didn't expect the extreme nausea to go on for so long. She did also have some Fluid in her lungs and they gave her antibiotics. I'm sure that's adding to her feeling lousy too. Hopefully, she'll turn a corner soon.
  21. They did a CT scan in the ER and everything looked OK on the scan.
  22. No, she didn't have a hernia repair. The ER yesterday gave her IV fluids, morphine, phenigrine shot for nausea and a GI cocktail. She felt much better last night and was able to drink fluids and even had some broth. Unfortunately today she is back to nausea and pain.

    What vitamins do you take?

I thought you had to take chewables otherwise they don't get absorbed properly and was told gummies were a no no since they could get stuck. Those chewables are nasty.
  24. She also had iv zofran and a stronger one that knocked her out but didn't touch the nausea. Were in the ER right now. She was pretty much passed out on the floor after trying to shower. We spent 45 mins in the waiting room with her slumped over in a wheelchair. Unacceptable!
