Ive lost 47 lbs as of Sept 10 had surgery July 16. but height, starting wt and the fact that I'm a guy may make my progress a lot different than your progress. My goal is 100 lbs lost, I think I will make that goal within 10 months. if I go on my progress so far, Id say by my 6th month I should make goal but I know it isn't going to be the same amount of weight loss every month and it will slow down as time goes on

it also will make you full faster. theres reasons not to drink and eat at the same time beyond flushing food. whenever I eat too close to when I drink or vise versa, my stomach fills up what seems like instantly and I feel bad for about an hour or more. Luckily I haven't gotten sick once since surgery...and I don't really get nervous on dates anymore, and I order what I want and not worry about what others think...but I'm a guy, may be a little different for us. Most of these rules aren't hard to do. a lot of times its just if you want to do it or not. any negative outcome you perceive to have by following the rules are usually in your head. its all a mind thing...which is tough to get over a lot of times.

If I know weight loss is not covered at all
ThreeFifty replied to 2016NewMe's topic in Insurance & Financing
Some people might not like this idea depending on where you fall politically My insurance didnt cover WLS so I signed up for the affordable care insurance (not sure what its called....obamacare) I didnt get any discount as I think you have to make under a certain amount a year before the discounts kick in and I was over that. so I just got the value blue plan I think its called. I have to pay a monthly fee, and I have a high deductible. But it got my surgery done and I'm only keeping it for a year. You'd have to wait till the end of the year for the next enrollment period, it will cost you a bit of money, as the monthly fee is hi, and the deductible is high. Cheaper than paying outright, more expensive than going to Mexico. -
Mind your business
ThreeFifty replied to LMolina1987's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I havent told many people for that reason. too many people feel like they have to give commentary on everything. I went to a restaurant recently to watch UFC and I ordered a small amount of food. I ordered a cup of Soup, and I asked if I could order the "Add an extra 5 grilled shrimp to any entrée" without actually ordering the entrée. They let me do it with no problem and after I ate the 5 shrimp, I couldn't touch the soup. The waitress thought I didn't like the soup. I eventually told her I had wls and I'm full because I'm missing 80%of my stomach. the first thing she said was "you dont need it" I said "How do you know? I had it 8 weeks ago". but she wasnt giving her opinion in this case. she had a friend that was going through the process and actually had some real questions about my experience. -
Tell me what you eat when you go out now?
ThreeFifty replied to Savannah Lee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Im 8 weeks out now and Ive only been to 2 restaurants since the surgery. at about 3 weeks I went to a mexican restaurant and just ordered refried Beans. this past weekend I went to a sports bar/restaurant and I ordered she crab Soup and I got them to sell me the "add 5 grilled shrimp to any entree for $$" even thought I didnt order an entree they still sold me the shrimp. I ate the shrimp and 2 spoons of the soup and was full. couldnt eat anymore. like I said, Im 8 weeks out and my doc has given me the ok to try to eat anything. but Im still not eating anything fried, no bread, no pasta and some things still hurt, and I still cant eat but about 5, maybe 6 oz of food. I figure when I go out, I'll just order a soup or if they sell some type of grilled shrimp or fish I would get that if soup wasn't an option. -
Men that had sleeve
ThreeFifty replied to Monnie815's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my sleeve July 16 didn't really have any issues, no pain, no out of the ordinary gas, was back at work after 10 days and didn't have any problems getting Protein Water or any of the food in the different stages down. my 6 week post op apt was last week and I had lost 40 lbs. pretty much none of the things Ive read on this and other sites I have experienced as far a negatives -
1 Week After - Back to Work!
ThreeFifty replied to ITGeekGirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am similar to you. I work in IT, mostly deskwork with the occasional server/monitor/network device move. I went back to work 10 days after surgery. I didn't take any pain killers once I left the hospital and was driving 2 days after I got home. been business as usually every since...except for whats on the menu hehe. I took vacation for my surgery. didn't tell anyone I was having a surgery except my immediate supervisor (who works about 6 states away and I have never seen in person) even still I told him it was a Hernia surgery. most people thought I was just on vacation. a couple people found out I was having surgery but no one knows its WLS. everyone thinks it was a hernia surgery...it will stay that way as long as I can keep it that way. -
Newly sleeved and nearly single

I guess the question is how is she not being supportive. is she just not being involved or active in what you are doing, like she's not paying attention or participating in conversations etc.....or is she giving you sh@& about it and being actively problematic. I think that's the difference. a lot of people want to just say if people aren't supportive they are bad for you or jealous or something negative, its not always that simple. they may just not agree and decide to deal with it. or maybe they disagree to a point where they are upset that you did it anyway. back In the early 2000s I bought a motorcycle. My mother didn't agree or support it and never supported it and tried to get me to sell it every time it came up in conversation. I didn't think nothing bad about that she just disagreed and it was understandable, motorcycles can be dangerous. For me, no one has to agree or support it...they just have to deal with it HAHA. its done. now if they are being toxic about it, then its time to let them go. but its life. we are all human with our own opinions and beliefs, everyone isn't going to agree and lets be honest...this does seem crazy...we let them cut 80% of our working stomach out. We have to be a little tolerant also when it comes to loved ones actions on this subject...I think -
Sugarless gum or mints ?
ThreeFifty replied to shellyd67's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I used those Listerine Breath Strips -
My plan was not to tell anyone. Pre surgery I told a friend who also started the process. when I found out I had to have someone drop me off at the hospital and take me home. I told my parents. I think my mother ended up telling her sisters/my aunts (she has 6) and some people in her church. I think between the people she told, it will probably get to everyone on that side of my life (which honestly I dont see often. hardly at all) Ive told a few people that were expecting things from me that I couldnt do (going out to dinners, cookouts etc) but other than that no one at work knows, and no one I deal with on a regular basis know. some people...like co workers know I had surgery but my story has been that I had a hernia repaired. a couple people has notice Ive been loosing weight but no one has put 2 and 2 together. I haven't lost enough yet to where people start asking questions tho.

3 days post op--what did it look like?
ThreeFifty replied to KChelper's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I stayed in the hospital for 2 days, or 24 hours (just spent one night) My experience hasn't been bad at all. was a l was tired a little the first couple of days home but no pain, and had no problems getting Protein or Water down. didn't use any pain meds and was driving the 2nd day. had minor gas and a little soreness in my abdomon but it was all pretty much ignorable. My surgery was on July 16, went back to work on July 27. have only been on the scale once since surgery on July 30 and I had lost 28 lbs. will get on the scale again at my next post op appointment on Aug 27 -
July 13th or closer Check In!
ThreeFifty replied to harley_quinn25's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Well all of the Soups were fine. I tried cream of mushroom, cream of chicken and mushroom, french onion (all cambpells) I blended it then strained it. but puree, I tried chicked salad (I put canned chicken, plain greek yogurt, sour cream, some seasoning and chicken broth in a food processor and blended till it was smoothe) then I tried ricotta bake, wendy's chli ran through my food processor, and refried Beans. all except the refried beans has made my stomach ache and spasm. even vanilla greek yogurt make me ache and spasm just not as bad. I had refried beans from a mexican restaurant and they were fine but when I made them from a can they hurt lol. nothing too bad, but i feel bad a few hours after eating. Im ussually only eating a 1/2 cup -

My surgery was July 16 I lost 28 lbs at my 2 week post op appointment. I dont have any problems getting in all my protien or Water, Im on pureed stage. some of the pureed food hurts going down, I may go back to soups/broths for another week. other than that. everything is great. I went back to work a week after surgery and I feel 90% -
July 16 Sleever, got a few questions. :)
ThreeFifty replied to mb1o27's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I couldnt drink a whole bottle of the ready made protien shakes. they were ussually 11oz. so I didnt try to drink them. what I was doing, I had Syntrax nectar which is 23 grams per scoop. I was measureing 4 and later 5 ounces of Water in a cup and using 1 scoop. that way I was getting the full 23 grams but only having to drink 4 or 5 oz to get it. that helped a lot -
July 16 Sleever, got a few questions. :)
ThreeFifty replied to mb1o27's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my sleeve on July 16. its been relatively easy for me. I've been able to get in all my Protein as far as Protein shakes, and all the recommended Water since I left the Hospital. I've basically done just Protein drinks and water with the occasional blended/strained soup. the soups that I have tried cream of chicken and mushroom soup was pretty good. cream of mushroom wasn't very tasty. I also tried Campbell's French onion soup blended and strained. about a half cup of soup, maybe a little more fills me up. Thursday I had my 2 week post op visit and was given the OK to do pureed foods. They have been a little tougher. Refried Beans work pretty good, cottage cheese, Yogurt all work well....I can eat about 4-5 ounces. but I made some chicken salad puree and that was hard to get down. I'm only doing pureed 1 meal a day. still doing shakes and water mostly. -
First day of Phase 2
ThreeFifty replied to mmyers1962's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yesterday was my first day of Phase 2. which is the pureed stage. I made some chicken salad (can chicken, greek yogurt, seasoning and chicken stoc) put it in a food processor and had it nice and smooth. It was so good but I fought to eat about 3 OZ and was so full. I felt it the rest of the evening. it was unbelievable. Think Im just going to try some cottage cheese today. -
Is / was your nutritionist all that helpful?
ThreeFifty replied to VSGAnn2014's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
My NUT was ok as I thought she was a nice lady and I enjoyed the conversation. But I do think that the Nutritionist and the Excersize appointents were a waste of money and time. Neither were covered by insurance so I had to pay $100 a visit. and my excersize appointment had the nerve to schedule an extra appointment. I was actually mad, took a day off work and had to keep paying that $100 and got absolutely nothing out of it. but the NUT gave basic information. I guess if there was a person that hadn't done any research at all it would be helpful...but then again, my doc had a free 2 hour class for every patient that covered everything that the NUT or any other research you may have done. I really felt like those 2 were just things that opportunist used to make some extra money not because they were helpful, but because they knew insurance companies required it. -
Days off work after sleeve surgery
ThreeFifty replied to shirleyjohn001's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had surgery on July 16 went back to work on Jul 27. I to have an IT related desk job with minor lifting (which I haven't had to do since I've been back to work) I feel fine. could've went back earlier if I was in a pinch for time. but My surgery was relatively easy from the beginning, I'm guessing everyone doesn't have the same experience as I did -

Pre op and post op shopping
ThreeFifty replied to thelakeisgone's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My requirements were a little different than yours, I did a full liquid diet 10 days prior to surgery (had mine July 16) I start doing a RTD Protein drinks (muscle milk pro vanilla or strawberry 32g protein - or Premier Protein vanilla or strawberry 30g protein) for Breakfast, and another for lunch. (sometimes I did a third one in the evening) For dinner I would get a Soup from somewhere, hot n sour soup, broccoli n cheese soup etc and mix some unflavored protein until that unflavored protein started making me feel sick on the stomach and just started having the soup by itself (I also did broths). For Snacks, I did greek yogurt or SF Jello. Drank Water, Gatorade G2 and Propel water. Hot herbal tea (rasbery zinger, no caffeine) with no sweetner at work during the day. At the Hospital, I brought some shower shoes (flip flops) but I didn't use them because they gave me those hospital socks, then I just wore my regular shoes when I went walking. I waited till I got home to shower (My surgery was at 3 and I was discharged at 12 the next day). I also bought my toothbrush and toothpaste, gasx strips, my ipad and chargers for my phone and ipad. I used my ipad for about an hour before I was discharged (watched Ferris Beullers day off on Netflix) didn't need anything else. I just relaxed, walked and slept the whole time I was there. -
Flavored Yogurt During Full Liquids Period
ThreeFifty replied to JohnT's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wish I could eat yogurt, My doc wants me to do Protein shakes, blended/strained Soups or broths - milk consistency or thinner for the first 2 weeks (my surgery was on 7/16) I cant eat yogurt till the pureed stage. -
July Sleevers! Let's chat!
ThreeFifty replied to beuTwithin's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Got my Sleeve on the 16th. everything went really well, no pain. still a little gas. so far have only drank Water, Gatorade g2 and Syntrax nectar fuzzy navel. Haven't had any problems drinking anything, have to take slow sips on the Protein, seems like that gets caught up in the gas still. Think I may try broths or Soup sometime later this week. my doc want me on liquids, everything strained for 2 weeks then on to pureed. Oh, no hunger at all yet. haven't got on the scale, think I'm gonna wait till my 2 week followup visit. lost 15 lbs on the pre-op liquid diet (10 days) -
I just had my surgery Thursday (July 16) I took 7 days off, counting the weekends that would give me 11 days recovery time before I have to go back to work. to be honest, today is Sunday and I could go back to work tomorrow. I have felt fine every since I left the hospital. Im sure another week at home and I'll be crazy lol
