I'm glad to see this thread. I don't think that I've been full yet. I have just been eating what I think is a small portion and stopping there. I just wonder how much I would have to eat to get full (don't worry I'm not gonna try it). Sometimes I wonder if I even have a band down there. I haven't experienced any sensations of restriction at all. I'm basically on a diet right now, thats what I would consider it. I'm pretty much hungry all the time. In fact I woke up from surgery hungry!!

The test I took is the MMPI. Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory. I have to take the same test for my job (every 2 years). The one I take for work is actually a lot longer than the one I took for the lapband eval. Basically my test said that I was subjectively depressed and withdrawn, which my very smart physc chalked up to me being fat.

Everything that I have ever read states that any liquid that doesn't have caffiene in it can be counted into your daily requirements. Caffiene is a diuretic so those can't count.

port pain - what to do

Mariagg54, Have you had a fill yet? From what I hear its very likely that you will be hungry if you haven't had a fill. -
port pain - what to do
NukeChik replied to thistledo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My port pain has calmed down a lot. Its good that you talked to your doc about it. I am just over 2 weeks out BTW. Last week I would start hurting if I did too much. If I started hurting I just stopped whatever I was doing. I wouldn't recommend continuing through the pain. It will get better. I would recommend putting some pressure on it for sneezes though, OMG!!!:rolleyes2: -
Protein supplements and Multi-vitamins
NukeChik replied to Shinyhappymommy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor has me on Flinstones. I take 2 a day. I ordered the unjury Protein. For my first week I was not allowed protein mixes. I could have the Isopure clear drinks and also Special K Protein Water. I drank a lot of the Special K, I expecially like the Tropical and the Lemon Twist. I would not recommend the Isopure, or Isopuke as many call them. I bought 4 of them at GNC, they were almost 5 bucks a bottle and I couldn't stomach them. I know you can get the Special K and Flinstones at Wally World. I would look into the Unjury Protein powder. The shipping is cheap, the most you ever pay is 6 bucks. I bought the vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, and unflavored. I had the vanilla this morning for Breakfast, very good. I would not recommend mixing them with water though, I can't stomach that. The powder is 100 calories a scoop and then 8 ounces of milk so that makes breakfast about 200 calories. -
Really worried about my incisions, please respond experienced bandsters
NukeChik posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm really starting to worry about my incisions. My port incision is okay, but all the others that are small are really weird. I literally have 4 holes in my stomach. I don't know if the glue didn't hold them shut like it should have or what. My take home instructions said I could start flaking off the glue on Monday. The first one that I did left a hole, probably only about an eighth of an inch deep but a hole nonetheless. This really worries me that the glue should have held them shut and didn't. I wasn't supposed to put anything on them for 2 weeks, but I started tonight. I peroxided them and tried to get as much of the glue off as possible then filled them in with antibiotic ointment. They look REALLY GROSS! They have been red ringed since the surgery, but now they are tender and one even has a little discharge that comes out (very little). I went to the doc on tuesday for my follow-up and they told me not to be concerned, but I still am!!! I'm afraid my doc might have screwed up the underlying stitches or something?! Years ago I had an appendectomy and had an infection. They split me back open and made me heal with an open wound. I just treated it the same as I did that wound. Has anyone else had this problem? -
So glad to hear you are doing better saleel. I will be 2 weeks out tomorrow and almost all my port pain is gone. I'm still gassy, but I don't know if thats the surgery or just my normal self:ohmy:

Just a word about Nauzene. The last time I had a migraine I took it. Just wanted to let you know that the active ingredients for it are sugars. It worked so so for me. I'm just sure that it is loaded with calories. Like that really matters when you're sick , but just thought I would say it since I have actually taken it.

What the BLEEEEP am I doing wrong?!?
NukeChik replied to MamaJava's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mama, I just wanted to lend some support. I lost 16 pounds my first week, I haven't lost any this week, but I haven't gained either. I'm okay with it. I too get pretty hungry during the day. Please remember that we are in the healing phase now. Just consider any weight lost during this period before the fill to be a bonus! I know its hard to be patient, but we really must remember that we probably don't have any restriction yet so we haven't truly seen the benefits from the band. It will get better. I have faith! -
I take chewable Vitamins, Flinstones to be exact. I also cannot burp, the doc said that the gas in a burp was bigger than the inlet of the stomach so it can't come up. I've finally gotten a little used to it. Little side story about a habit that I had. When I drink liquids I have to be really intentional with every sip. I have a habit of breathing in before I drink. I now let the liquid hit my lips before I take it in. I was taking in a lot of air and that was causing burps and chest pains. If you have any unexplained pain though, I urge you to call your doc about it, better safe than sorry!

I think that the main problem is the surgical glue. Its all down in the holes, I think it really needs to come out and it would be okay. The holes that I got all the glue out of are healing well. There are still 2 that have a bunch of the glue down in them though. -

I had been cleaning them with Peroxide and putting some triple antibiotic on them. Seems I was wrong in doing that. From what I read on the incredible internet, peroxide is now thought to be worse than nothing at all. Seems it kills all the cells, even the healthy ones. Who knew?? Anyways, I guess I will just keep washing it with soap and water and putting some ointment on them. Still freaks me out though! -
How did you clean them? I have a feeling that all the yuckiness is the surgical glue. I'm having a really hard time getting it out of there! I'm cleaning the incisions with peroxide twice a day, I won't do that anymore after I get a good scab on them but right now its still gunky.

Thanks for your reply Alfie. I know that one of them is infected. I think I will still call the doc on Monday and see what they say. I really think its just a superficial infection, I don't feel bad or have a fever. -

Fever Blisters and Cold Sores

I have Valtrex. Problem is they are horse pills. Not too band friendly. I haven't checked with the pharmacist yet to see if its okay to crush them. -
Is Anyone Having Trouble Burping??
NukeChik replied to Sunshine08's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think this might be something that we just have to live with. When I went in for my post op follow-up the doc said that the burp was a large volume as compared to the opening of my stomach, so they just can't get through. I do believe him cause I can get tiny burps out I just won't be able to win a contest!! -
Are there any other newbies on Clear & Full Liquids
NukeChik replied to grandmom4x's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just hang in there yelsnia. It gets better and for me the pounds melted away during liquids. Not so much now that I'm on full liquids, but its understandable. -
Okay, let see. I had surgery 9 days ago. I went back to work on Monday. I work 10 hour shifts, I couldn't quite make it for the 10 so I'm gonna work 8's this week. I went to my surgeons office yesterday for my 1 week followup. I was glued so I'm able to pick most of the glue off my incisions. They are all pretty red and a couple of them still hurt a little. I had lost 15 pounds since surgery when they weighed me at the doc yesterday. I'm still having cramping in my chest area. My port area still hurts like a mother especially when I sneeze. I need to burp all the time, but can't (only teeny, tiny burps come out). Overall I feel great, I think that I made the right decision. I have no regrets. Oh and I would mind if I never had to drink broth again:biggrin:
