I didn't have any problems with clothes. The distance from my waist to the incisions are considerable. I guess its just where I'm so tall.

I've slimed once, it was before my fill. I was eating shrimp, pretty sure I shouldn't do that again. I started hiccuping really bad and stuff. I was in a restaurant with my man sitting across from me. He just told me to tell him if he needed to duck:tongue:

Questions about what to wear post op
NukeChik replied to vegors's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not really, I had a really easy time with it all. It probably would be a good idea to wear a button up shirt or the like. -
SURVEY-- Your Food Stages
NukeChik replied to deneicy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
1. Did you have a nutritionist? Yes, in the initial consultation and classes stage Did you receive a written diet or program? Yes, very specific guidance was given. 2. What was your pre-op diet? I did not really have a pre-op diet. I was instructed to be on clear liquids for 24 hours prior to my surgery. 3. What days were you on Clear Liquids? 24 hours prior to surgery, then 1 week post surgery 4. How long were you on Full Liquids? Did you incorporate any whole foods in this stage, for example, by blending? 1 week, didn't blend much stuff I was happy with yogurt and pudding. 5. When were you on the Puree Diet? Week 3 was a combo of puree/soft foods, that when I could start eating eggs, tuna salad, etc... 6. When were you on the Soft food Diet? see above answer 7. In the soft food diet, were you told which foods to avoid or be careful of? (eg high fiber breads and cereals, raw/fresh veggies, fresh fruits w skins, fried foods, tough meats, nuts & seeds. Were you informed that meat, rice and bread usually not tolerated until after 2-3 months) Those foods were not included in my soft foods diet. I could not graduate to that stuff until week 4. 8. Did you deviate from your diet? What was your experience, if so? I cheated a little bit, mostly by moving stuff up. Like I only did clear liquids for 5 days, then went to full liquids. I didn't see much detriment to going from clear to full. That was the only thing that I really cheated on. I stuck to it to the letter otherwise. -
Questions about what to wear post op

I wore big comfy pajama pants and a tshirt under a sweatshirt. That covered all the bases and my clothes were so baggy you couldn't tell I didn't have a bra on. -
How bad is the pain from the surgery?
NukeChik replied to Startingover!'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you haven't tried already, get some pillow support. I am also a left side sleeper. I wedged a body pillow under my left side and didn't have any problems after that! -
I make mine with a cup of skim milk (8 oz.). My milk has 80 calories in it and the unjury has either 100 or 120 cals. I'm not sure. The vanilla is probably my fave. The strawberry is really good too. I actually haven't opened my chocolate yet, I still have some left over that I bought prior to my surgery. I bought Natural Factors brand prior to surgery, its really good and all organic/natural. I got it at my local organic/health food store.

I have the chocolate, strawberry, vanilla and unflavored Unjury. The flavored ones are very tasty. I like to mix them with skim milk for breakfast. I can't handle them mixed with water. I'll gladly give up 80 calories for the taste. I will probably be having one for breakfast in the morning due to my first fill today.

Had my first fill today, doing pretty good. They had me drink some water afterwards and I kinda backed up a little so they took some out. What a catch 22, I wanted to get good restriction but I was afraid it was too much. I hope that I didn't ruin my restriction because I was worried!!

Doin good. Haven't lost any weight since I started mushies, I'm okay with that though. I go for my first fill tomorrow, so wish me luck!! Maybe after that I will be able to amp up the poundage.

How bad is the pain from the surgery?
NukeChik replied to Startingover!'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I guess it just depends on your health prior to the surgery, your pain tolerance and such, but I can give you my experience. I woke up in the recovery room from surgery and the nurse asked me to rate my pain on a scale of 1-10, 1 being none 10 being worst. I said probably about a 4. That was the worst time was just waking up. I would say recovery was about a 2, unless I sneezed or had to use my stomach muscles. The only pain I had was trying to get up from the couch and out of the bed. I usually had to have someone pull me up. My recovery was a breeze. I didn't have too much gas pain either. Good luck with yours! -
I do trim my nether regions but I don't think I could ever go for the full "Kojak". I'm pretty sure that the waxer would be physically harmed.
-
Glad to hear you are doing okay. Please don't freak out if you get on the scale and haven't lost anything. Remember that this time is for healing keep up your fluids, vitamins and protein. We can't heal without protein. I know its hard but don't focus too much on the scale right now. Worry about the scale after you get your first fill. Good luck

Glad to hear that you are doing well. Rest up and get to healing! Welcome to bandland.

I think I gained weight 7 days post-op! Can this really happen?
NukeChik replied to bubbles098's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just hang in there. And remember now is the time to let your body heal, not lose weight. Focus on getting your vitamins and protein in and put the scale away. I know its hard, but just wait, it will come off. -
Mississippi Republican presents bill to make it illegal to feed obese people
NukeChik replied to NukeChik's topic in Rants & Raves
Bill would make it illegal to feed the obese - On Deadline - USATODAY.com Above is the link, there are some hyper texts in the article that will take you to the actual bill and so forth. Its an outrage if you ask me. Let see how much more we can ostracize people like us! -
AlkaSeltzer Cold & Flu
NukeChik replied to minpinmom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Another thing that I would look into is Cold and Flu having aspirin in it. That is how I finally found out that I was allergic to aspirin when I ended up in the emergency room after taking it. That has been years ago and they could have changed their formula since then. My doc strongly disagrees with aspirin and NSAID usage and the band! -
I second Chrisann, I could tell you my doc's after surgery plan, but everyone has something a little different. Just call the office and find out what they want you to do.

Good idea for BMI of 38 with no co-morbidities?
NukeChik replied to photo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are about where I was when I got banded (Jan 7). My insurance did not cover my band I was self-pay. I think there is a huge variance in what insurance companies approve. Mine was very specific over 40 bmi you're covered. 35-40 you had to have either obstructive sleep apnea, Type II diabetes, or a first line relative that had died of coronary artery disease prior to age 45 (I think??). Anyways, when I went to the seminar the surgeon that gave the seminar and ultimately did my surgery made the statement "Its time to invest in yourself". I knew that I wasn't sick at the time, but it was in my not too distant future. So I did it. Never looked back. I'm very happy so far but I'm brand new. -
Glad to hear your first fill went okay. I actually had a little tiff with my dr's office this morning. I called to confirm my appt on the 5th and first they didn't even have me down:angry:. Then I asked if my surgeon would be doing it and they said "more than likely", well I hit the roof. I will not be getting a fill on the 5th unless its my surgeon. This band is my baby! Backstory- I haven't seen my surgeon since I had surgery on Jan 7, when I had my 1 week followup I only saw him in the hallway. The nurses did my followup. 1 nurse in particular, I guess she's like the head office nurse now is the one that does the followups. She also does all the emergency calls during the week. Well, the phone girl said that she does fills when my doc can't for any reason. I told her that I was a self-pay patient and I was not comfortable with that at all. I choose my surgeon because of HIS reputation, not his office staff. Well, that went over real well. About 10 minutes later said nurse calls me at work, trying to explain to me all the training and such that she has had and how she has specific patients that request her for fills.

Here's a better shot of me. This was taken tonight. I'm down 20 pounds.

Good pic, I can see it, I can see it. BTW I am NOT easily offended. If you make me mad I'll tell ya! I guess we need to get some pics on here without glasses. I definately see what you are talking about though!

I'm a six footer. I wear a lot of "cropped" pants lol. As far as I know I'm an only child:wink2:

My doctor doesn't require waiting prior to eating but I have to wait 45 min to an hour after I eat before I can drink again. I'm actually not having as hard a time with it as I thought..... so far

I would call your docs office. I wouldn't recommend stopping your cpap machine. I've never heard anything about that. Isn't the object of a cpap to force air into your lungs anyway, not your stomach??
