  1. Chapstick was a lifesaver!! If you're a diabetic then don't be shocked if your blood sugar goes way up after surgery. Mine shot up to numbers I haven't seen for 3 yrs and nearly 100 lbs ago. And with high blood sugar you get super dry mouth!! Not good when you can't drink anything. And of course don't forget the cell phone charger. ????

2 Days Post Open Severe Nausea

This sounds very encouraging. Hopefully the bad is finally behind her and she will continue to improve. ????

    Physical recovery

This is a really hard question. It seems there's a wide range of answers. Personally I had a pretty easy time after surgery. It really wasn't much different from my previous c-section. No pain, no nausea, no trouble drinking, no horrible gas pains, etc... I was back on the treadmill 6 days post-op (walking slowly, but walking. Nothing strenuous). I am usually in bed by 8:30, but other than that fatigue hasn't been as issue either. Whether my experience is the norm or the exception I don't know.

    Prilosec?

I did too. My surgeon only gave me pills post-op. Nothing liquid. I never had a problem taking any of them. They slide down pretty easy with a sip of water.

Weight Loss Stall at 2 weeks Post-op

I lost 15 lbs the first week then stalled for the next 2 weeks. I just finally saw a 2 lb loss on Monday. I'm hoping that it stays off and I've made it over the first hump.

    Back pain after gastric sleeve

Honestly, that was the only pain I had after surgery. I'm assuming it was from laying flat on the operating table for an hour or so. I spent most of the first day sitting on the side of my hospital bed because my upper back hurt so bad being in that bed. It felt so much better being upright.

    Any April Sleevers?

I'm 3 weeks post-op and so ready to be done with full liquids!! It's been 5 weeks now. I'm really looking forward to purées in a couple days!

    Medicine Question

My surgeon gave me pills for everything (PPI, iron/folic acid, and metformin), however my blood sugar has been under 100 since surgery so my PCP has taken me off my diabetes medication. I've not had any issues swallowing pills post-op.

    Pre-op diet is a b***h

I had to use a suppository after surgery. It had been 4 days without a BM. That took care of the immediate problem. Now I use 3 tbsp of benefiber per day. One each in my protein shakes, and a 3rd in a glass of crystal light. This is what works for me.

    Multivitamin Nausea

I take a centrum multivitamin daily. The pills are not too big compared to other vitamins I've seen. I'm almost 3 weeks post-op and they don't bother my sleeve. I take it at lunch time, not first thing in the morning.

Weight gain 12 days post op?!

Me too. I gained 2 lbs around 10 days out. I'm just over 2 weeks now and it's still there. I took measurements today, so I'm gonna keep an eye on that. I'm following my post op plan and walking daily.

2 days to go and SCARED

I had these type of discussions with my mom right up until surgery day. She was truly worried about me having the surgery, but I kept reminding her that I was doing this for my health. Now since I made it through the surgery without incident and am actually feeling good she has calmed down quite a bit. I know I was making the right decision. Don't let the uninformed sway your judgement.

    sleeve leakages

Me too. Mine was checked right after surgery. I was still out.

2 Days Post Open Severe Nausea

That's good news! I know it's apples and oranges, but I had really bad morning sickness for all 9 months of my first pregnancy. If I had nothing in my stomach the vomiting and dry heaves would continue until I ate. But of course I didn't want to eat because I was super nauseous. It was a vicious cycle some days. I read your posts frequently and I'm hoping this will be a turning point for your daughter.

    Pre-op diet is a b***h

You need to discuss this with your doctor. I can say that after surgery I have been off diabetes medication. My numbers have been under 100 since leaving the hospital. Pre-op I still needed it, but I did see my numbers going down as I lost weight. I was on 1 kombiglyze per day and no insulin prior to surgery.

    Pre-op diet is a b***h

I'm 2 weeks post op and have been on liquids for a month now. You're right. It sucks!! I too had the occasional bite of whatever I was cooking during my pre-op diet, but that will change after your surgery. The consequences for not following the surgeon's plan after are too high. This is what I keep reminding myself to get me through it.

9 days post op and I am HUNGRY!

Don't get me wrong, I'm fighting not putting food in my mouth, especially when I'm cooking dinner for my family. I'm glad the hunger feelings I've had since surgery seem to be subsiding. I felt like a bottomless pit, constantly drinking and always feeling hungry. I can't wait for purées.

9 days post op and I am HUNGRY!

I was sleeved 4/21 and until 2-3 days ago I was hungry all the time. My stomach made horrible growling noise when I wasn't "eating". It was so bad it even woke me up in the night. The last few days it's seems to have stopped. All of the sudden I'm not hungry. I'm still on full liquids for another week and a half.
  19. It will go by faster than you think. I had a 1 year wait. This had nothing to do with insurance, my surgeon just has a long wait list. But it gave me time to get into an exercise routine. My body was better prepared for the surgery, and so far my recovery has been pretty easy.

What to take to the hospital

Along with the stuff everyone else mentioned. I brought my knitting project with me, and I'm glad I did! I ended up not feeling bad after surgery, and I was so bored sitting in my hospital room. I would say bring something to keep your time occupied just in case you need it.
  21. I have to use powder since premades aren't available in my part of the world. If I make one with about 1 cup skim milk it takes about 45 min or maybe a little longer to finish it. I'm 1 week post-op today.

    Question...stomach pain

My stomach kinda burned a bit when I first woke up, but a bag of IV nexium took care of that. I had no other pain.
  23. I had my surgery last Tuesday. I was of course nervous, it was surgery! When I got to the OR one of the nurses said to me not to be afraid. The same surgeon did her sleeve and she's just fine. You'll be ok. And I was. I woke up in recovery about 2 hrs later, no pain, no nausea, no nothing.
  24. I'm 6 days out and my stomach is constantly making all kinds of funky noises. It feels like hunger a lot, but I'm not really sure that I'm actually hungry. Liquids are going down really easy so far. I agree @@MichelleTN, I made a creamed soup last night and it was a lot more filling.

2 Days Post Open Severe Nausea

What an @ss!! I'm so sorry to hear what your daughter's been going through, and to top it off with an arrogant and obviously uncaring physician is unbelievable!
