  1. I would suggest you talk to your doctor or even your pharmacist first. Some pills are delay release and should not be crushed or cut. I don't know about blood pressure meds, but my diabetes med was an extended release pill.

    How do you reward yourself?

I don't know about anyone else, but my rewards used to be some type of food. My how things have changed. No cheesecake this time! I'm getting a new engagement ring this summer. I told my husband a few years ago that I didn't want it until it fit right out of the store. I don't want it sized. I've finally lost enough weight that it's time to go jewelry shopping.
  3. I'm still on purées. I normally opt for a small soup when eating out. It's easy, plenty filling, and if I eat slow enough I can stretch it throughout dinner. It's hard going out with friends and they're eating the whole time and you're done in 5 bites.

    Still Deciding: Need Opinions!

My only regret so far is that I waited until I'd gained an extra 100 lbs to finally decide to have the surgery. Like one of the previous posters said, I wish I'd done it sooner and when I was a little younger. I would start the process now if your insurance will cover it. If you put it off until you have your own policy WLS may or may not be covered. Plus it takes time to get through all the pre-surgical qualifications.

    Protein Pills?

I'm 6 weeks out and on purées for 2 more weeks. I still drink 2 protein shakes a day. There's no way I could get all my protein in without them. I get about 60g from the shakes and about 15-20g from my other "food"...Greek yogurt, hummus, and refried beans.
  6. What did your surgeon say about his expectations pre-op? Did he give you an amount of weight he wants you to lose before surgery?

    Help..3 pounds to go!

Have you been on a pre-op liquid diet yet? I lost 15 pounds on my 2 week pre-op diet.

    Yogurt & Milk

I've had skim milk in my protein shakes everyday since a few days after surgery. I don't have any problems with it as well as yogurt or cheese. However, I don't tolerate whole milk well now. It give me heartburn, so I avoid it.
  9. I would push the surgery back one week if it were me. You have no idea how your recovery will be. I had no pain, no nausea, no gas pains, no fatigue, etc...after my sleeve. I was back to the gym and getting my walking in on the treadmill 6 days after. My friend, on the other hand, had a miserable recovery. It was nearly a month before she was feeling better. I don't think there's any way to predict how your body will take the surgery.

    I Love My Coffee

I loved my coffee before surgery....however, after surgery, my sleeve doesn't seem to like it much anymore. I'm only 5 weeks post-op so I'm hoping sleevie comes to accept an occasional cup as time goes on. I can handle a tsp of instant coffee in my protein shakes, but that's it right now. The good stuff messes with my stomach acid. ????
  11. I guess it depends on what exactly she's looking at. 20% reduction of excess weight from the beginning is probably not unreasonable. Of course this would include all the weight you've lost since your first visit. 20% reduction of excess weight in 2 weeks after surgery seems highly unrealistic to me.

    Favorite protein shake blender

I switched to The Blender Bottle after surgery. I use it daily and I'm happy with it. I used a Nutri blender preop, but after I found it makes a lot of foam. The foam is just too much for my sleeve. I don't have this problem with the bottle. And I add a tbsp of benefiber to each shake.

    Prilosec?

My advice would the same as above. I was on Kombiglyze prior to surgery for diabetes. It's a 24 hr extended release tablet. These type of meds can't be crushed or cut.

To Catheter or Not to Catheter?

I had a catheter with 2 c-sections. As long as they put it in while you're asleep it's not that bad. Taking it out doesn't hurt, it's pretty quick. I didn't have one with my sleeve. At least as far as I know I didn't. It wasn't there when I went to sleep and there wasn't one when I woke up. Lol

    Refried Bea...OUCH!

How far out are you? Refried beans are kinda thick. Maybe your new tummy isn't ready for it yet.
  16. I love the Toriani sugar free syrups with a little half & half.

MILK is doing my bidy bad nit good

I'm fine with skim milk, but my stomach doesn't like whole milk! I was out of skim and used whole milk in my protein shake...my stomach was not happy all day long.
  18. I felt like this for the first 7-10 days post op. My stomach constantly grumbling and I truly felt hungry anytime I wasn't drinking something. It even woke me up during the night it was so bad. Then magically around day 10 it just stopped. (I've been on a PPI since surgery). I don't even wake up hungry in the morning anymore.

    Beach Time? Or Not?

I was told 4 weeks for the pool, no specification of public/private. Guess it isn't just the nutrition our doctors don't always agree on.

    Not Weighing

I prefer to weigh everyday. I've spend years avoiding the scale for weeks and months at a time, and it sure didn't get me anywhere other than fatter and fatter. I know my weight will stall and fluctuate from day to day, but I'm 100% sure I'm not overeating or eating things that's bad for me. So I'm not going to freak out about it.

Help, dont know what to eat!

@@marjan Do you have health/vitamin stores where you are? I'm in Saudi Arabia and I get my protein powder from GNC here.
  22. desertgirl_74

    Constipation

I add a tbsp of benefiber to each of my protein shakes and a glass of iced tea or crystal light (3tbsp per day). This works for me.

    3 days post op question

@@gettingtothenewme I was like that the first 10 days or so. I always felt hungry! My stomach growled, made lots of noise, and I always felt like it was empty. It even woke me during the night. Then magically around 10-14 days out it just stopped. I was on full liquids 3 weeks after surgery, so it wasn't new foods that changed anything.

    3 days post op question

I use the protein powder (isopure Dutch chocolate and another vanilla from gnc). I switched from the regular blender to the blender bottle. That made a world of difference!! It really helped to get rid of the excess foam that the blender was creating, and it was a lot easier to drink!

    Stalling so soon?

I stalled one week after surgery. Lasted for 2 weeks, then the scale started moving a little bit at a time the next week. It's frustrating, but seems to happen to everyone.
