    Unsupportive family

My family was negative about the surgery as well. But this was the decision I came to because I was tired of the lose 50 gain 80 roller coaster I'd been on for 20years. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes 4 years ago and I was able to lose enough to get it to a manageable level. But it was still there. I was still on a daily med. I wasn't really getting anywhere. Plus it was getting harder and harder to keep it under control as the months passed and I got older. Now, after I came out of surgery alive, had no complications, had a very easy recovery, etc... and seeing my health dramatically improve they've completely changed their minds. You will always have someone say you should be able to this on your own. Even after surgery! You're following the post-op diet, I'm sure you could have done this without surgery. For me it's knowing that I'm not one crappy day away from eating an entire pan pizza. That's what's different.

    Sad

I was pretty snappy early on. It really only came out when I was fixing dinner for my family. Being on a liquid diet for 5 weeks made me extremely cranky while I was fixing my family a delicious meal....and myself a bowl of chicken broth. I seemed to snap out of it once I finally made it to the purée stage. I'm 4 months out now and it doesn't bother me anymore. I think I'm developing a different relationship with food. I don't really seem to care much about it.

    Nobody said anything

Don't take it to heart. From my experience the only people that will say anything are close friends. Chances are they know you've struggled to lose weight and will be comfortable enough to mention it. This summer I ran into several people I know and not one person mentioned that I've lost weight. I'm down 80lbs and 4 pants sizes since I last saw them! I know they know. I just don't think they're comfortable enough to say it.

    Curse you, Diet Coke!

I drink 1-2 cups of coffee per day. My surgeon has no issue with moderate caffeine. Coke is another issue. I used to LOVE coke zero, but carbonated beverages are not allowed. It's been 4 months now and I honestly don't miss it much. I'm fine with water or unsweetened iced tea. I did take a sip of my kid's coke concoction at the movies not too long ago. It was just one sip, but it didn't feel very good. I've not had any desire to have another sip since.

    Crazy question

I had 2 c-sections and honestly had no real pain with either. Same with my sleeve. I only had pain medicine the morning of my surgery. Nothing after. My friend that's had 6 kids had a lot of pain with her sleeve. I just don't think there's anyway to know how it will be.

    Taking Medications

I never crushed any meds after surgery. My surgeon sent me home with Prevacid capsules. They went down just fine.

    Pcos and metformin

I was on metformin for 3 yrs prior to surgery. Haven't had a single pill since leaving the hospital. Just had blood work done and my diabetes is in remission. (Sleeved 4/21/15)

    Butterfinger Milkshake

I've made this too, but I added a tbsp of butterscotch SF pudding powder. It was fantastic!! And super filling.

    Should I chill out?

Take it as a blessing! I was the same post-op. No pain, no nausea, very little gas. I came home full of energy too and was actually back in the gym on the treadmill 6 days later. I read a lot of posts that had just the complete opposite experience. Be happy you feel so great, but be careful not to overdo it. It's easy to do too much when you feel good. ????

    No one is noticing:-(

I wouldn't take it to heart. Only my very good friend has mentioned my weight loss. She didn't know I had surgery, but I'd lost about 50lbs since I last saw her. On the other hand, acquaintances that last saw me 70+ lbs ago hasn't even acknowledged that I look any different. I honestly don't think it's because they don't see it, I just think it's a personal subject with most people you don't know real well. In my experience they're just less likely to comment.

    Medication

I never cut any of my medications following surgery. I didn't have any problems with vitamins or other pills. It all went down just fine.

    New Sleever Needing Advice

I liked the Nectar roadside lemonade and the lemon tea. My Bariatric Pantry sells a sample pack and you can choose the 10 flavors you want to try. I also liked the cappuccino and LOVE peanut butter cookie, which I mix with skim milk. Post surgery I've also switched to the blender bottle. The ninja put too much air for me, and it took forever to get one shake down.

    I'm hungry!

I felt the same way post-op. It even woke me up during the night, but after about 10 days or so it just stopped. I don't even wake in the morning hungry any more. Before surgery I was starving the minute my eyes opened.

2 Days Post Open Severe Nausea

I'm glad to hear that your daughter is doing better. Before I got back to the U.S. I had to get a little creative myself. Fage plain was the only Greek yogurt available. I mixed it with a little stevia, vanilla, and different extracts. I loved it with almond extract. That was my favorite.

What was your level of PAIN?

Sleeved 4/21/15. I came out of surgery with no pain or nausea. I did have pain meds before I woke up, but that was it. I didn't have any more after that. I was a little sore at first getting up out of the bed, but it didn't last too long. It was more like I had done 100 crunches and had sore abs. That was it.

    Constipation

I add a tbsp of benefiber to my protein shakes. I've also added it to iced tea, coffee, and crystal light.

    Consipation

I used a suppository after I came home from the hospital. It had been 5 days since a BM. That was the quickest way to get things moving. After that I add benefiber to each protein shake. Works well for me, no issues as long as I get some fiber.

    Plateau at 2 weeks?

Yes!!! Same story here. I stalled weeks 2 & 3 after surgery. By week 4 I started losing again.

    Just sharing

I too had no pain, no nausea, no problems with fluids following surgery. I was back in the gym 6 days after, but it was only for walking (very slowly at first) on the treadmill. This time of year it's getting extremely hot in the Middle East and the treadmill was my best option. At 8 weeks post op I was cleared for light weights. I understand you feel great, and feel like getting back to "normal", but please be careful and take it easy. We have a lot of healing to do inside.

    Diabetes and the Sleeve

I was sleeved 8 weeks ago (4/21). I took my last diabetes medication the day before my surgery. I was on Kombiglyze prior to surgery, and switched to metformin after. I've not had to take a single pill since leaving the hospital. My levels have been in the 90s since I was discharged. I still check them everyday to make sure.

    Mira-NO-Lax

I used benefiber. It works well for me.

    I felt Hungry!

I was getting between 500-600 calories per day at this time. I was still on full liquids when the hunger stopped. There was nothing different in my diet.

    I felt Hungry!

I felt the same way for about the first 10 days. I was on 20mg omeprazole twice a day, but still felt hungry all day and even waking during the night. Drinking a little juice or having some broth would help. All the sudden after 10 days or so it just stopped. I haven't felt like that since. (I was on full liquids for nearly a month, so it wasn't solids that made it stop)
  24. Hopefully you will be done with those meds for good. I've been 100% off diabetes meds since I came home from the hospital. It sure is a good feeling, and it's been the best NSV so far!!

    Question

I had no problems drinking liquids after surgery. Protein shakes, water, crystal light...it all went down pretty quick. This is by no means a complaint, I personally felt this was a blessing. Once I got to purées I could for sure feel restriction. A few spoons of refried beans and I'm done.
