Like most, I struggled with my weight for a long time. Fortunately, my weight never limited me from being active. I still was able to do most athletic things I could do in my youth, i.e, run, swim, dance, skip, cartwheel, etc.. A little slower than I would have liked to admit, but still I was doing it. After I had my son, I put on about 50-60 pounds, which put me at my max weight of 278 (when he was 6..no excuses, smh). I went on Weight Watchers and got down 29 lbs, and thought, "I got this!" Well who would have thunk it, I blew right back up 2 years later. I decided to do something permanent about this yo-yo dieting once and for all. So when I hit 278 again, I said no more! In October of 2014 I took control. I gave up sodas, and began the process of looking into WLS. I originally planned for the Lap Band, because I was leery about the whole idea and concept of WLS. I thought it was a form of cheating. Nonetheless, I started with True Results... and ended up getting a second opinion from the best surgeon ever, Dr. Hamn, who changed my mind completely and I decided Gastric Sleeve was the best option for me.
With great insurance coverage and a smooth preapproval process, I had my surgery on March 10, 2015. My surgery stats: 274lbs, size 20/22, age 36, 5'3 female. In my first week post op, I lost 15lbs... wow! And with my 2 week post op weigh in tomorrow, I have no idea how much more I'm down. My doctor set my goal weight as 181lbs to be a WLS success, but I really want to have a personal goal weight of 160lbs.
All I can say.... it feels good, and I'm getting my life I've always thought I had back, one day at a time. Would recommend WLS to anyone contemplating it. I still hurt, still have stiches and discomfort, barely can drink my daily recommended water (64 oz) or protein in (55-60g), but I wouldn't change it for the world!
If you're scared, nervous, on the fence, unsure, paranoid....whatever, DO IT... I was all of the above and still am today, 2 weeks post op. Just do it. (like Nike)
