  1. Hi! I scheduled my surgery for July 15th yesterday. I am hoping maybe more people find this monthly forum.... I'm nervous, excited, and ready.

    Extremely Fertile

I think the recommendation is an increase of 300 kcals. But these should be healthy things, obviously. So you really don't need much extra. Since you're already starting with some extra weight, I think they would probably only recommend a 15-20 lbs gain over the course of your pregnancy. But, just talk to your OB and visit your bariatric nutriotionist. They will probably have suggestions of what to eat for those extra calories.

    Surgery choices- sleeve vs RNY

I think the choice between RNY depends on your comorbodities and current medical conditions - reflux, pcos, etc. Also, the sleeve does give you more leeway after surgery, so depending on your relationship with food and ability to cut things out of your diet without the incentive of the RNY intolerances, that might be a factor.

    Birth Control

I went on the Nuva Ring - it was recommended by my bariatric doctor and pcp. Since I want to get pregnant after a year, the IUD wasn't the best option for me. It depends on what your long term plans are.
  5. I'm 3+ weeks post op. I'm having a hard time tolerating almost anything. Even Water is hard to get down most of the day. My doctor just started me on prilosec hoping that will help, but I have no energy and just feel ill all day. Please tell me it will get better soon.

also craving a salad! The doc wants me to wait at least another 6 weeks before adding ruffage.

    Anyone from Minnesota

How are you feeling? My husband was sleeved at United. They had a nice ward.

    Discouraged - need to vent

Use a tent method to cook the meat - essentially wrap the meat in foil or parchment paper with space at the top. Crock pot will keep the meat moist. Deli rotisserie chicken.
  9. Also, you can use plain nonfat Greek yogurt in place of mayo, with some mustard and seasonings.
  10. My sources say yes! I'm also going to add in avocado.

    Major break down

    I would call asap
  12. I'm in the post surgery blues. The pain is pretty tolerable, but it hurts my pouch every time I swallow. I'm nowhere close to the goals they gave us. How long until you could swallow without difficulty? I'm hating myself for doing this right now.

    online clothing rentals?

I used gwynnie bee for a while and really liked it. The issue I had was my shipment taking to long to arrive. But, I've heard they've added more shopping centers so it is supposed to be better.
  14. That really sucks, I'm so sorry.
  15. Please, tell me it gets better. I'm so low energy, hungry, cranky, and have a headache. I'm really hoping today is the worst day - I thought I read that by day 4 it gets better. I'm at work and for some reason there are 3 cakes and homemade ice cream here today. I'll just be hiding in my cube.

    Why Bypass?

Same as the others. I have some GERD and metabolic issues so the RNY is best for me. Plus, I'm not put off by dumping, I think it will help me stay accountable.

    MN - Minneapolis/St.Paul

Hi Engteacher, I'm also on the east side of the metro. I'm having RNY on July 15.

    Day 3 Pre-op liquid diet

Day 3 was the worst. I've lost almost all my hunger pains and have lost over 10 lbs.

    Congrats guts!

    July 9-21 Surgery Buddies?

    congratulations!
  21. so do I! I started my liquid diet today. Protein drink, yogurt, applesauce, v8, soup
  22. With GERD, the sleeve would not be recommended as it would make it much worse. The surgeon won't even offer it to you if he knows of it.
  23. Does your insurance cover both? Mine only covered the insertion for the IUD, not the IUD itself. It cost $900 out of pocket. I wouldn't have picked it if I planned on getting pregnant in a year because of the cost and it also took my body 6 months before it finally accepted the IUD. I'm pretty certain it is covered by the ACA.
  24. I'm also trying to decide what would be best for me post surgery - we want to get pregnant ASAP once my year is up. I'm deciding between the Nuva Ring and the IUD.
  25. I just requested to join - I'm also July 15!
